Ancient Greek Ostracons - 500 BC.
Athenian democracy predates the paper ballot and pesky hanging chads. Here are some Ancient Greek #Ostraka - clay tablets which were used as makeshift ballots - from about 500 BC. When the decision at hand was to banish or exile a certain member of society, citizens could vote by writing the name of the person on the sherd of pottery; the vote was counted and, if unfavorable, the person was exiled from Athens for a period of ten years, thus giving rise to the term ostracism.
Minoan Hoops
Large hoops are big in spring 2020, and were big in the 1980s but did you know they have a history thousands of years old? Heres (a restoration of) a Minoan fresco which shows a woman gathering stylized saffron. Note the bracelets, anklets and especially her oversized hoop #earrings. 2700 BC - 1450 BC.
