The beauty of this dining space is that it is both beautiful AND functional.  The young family of five needed a casual dining areas where the parents could easily move between kitchen, family room and eating area.  With an open floor plan, we were able to create specific areas that were discrete but also connected.  Perfectly framed between the windows and French doors, this dining area allows for seamless connection to the family's active life. There were versions of open concepts in the 70s but the kitchen was often tucked away behind closed doors. It wasn’t until the ‘90s the thought was pushed to extremes with the fully open concept plan. We all know everyone hangs out in the kitchen! However, an open concept can quickly become artificial in a home built in 1915.
