Cat’s Eye Nebula, NGC 6543, a bright planetary Nebula.

The ring nebula...one of my all time favorite pics, our universe is one beautiful place. This looks like a beautiful eye watching over the earth :)

Cat's eye nebula. Nebula is an instertellar cloud of dust, hydrogen, helium and other ionized gases.Cat' eye nebula located in the constellation Draco. Structurally, it is one of the most complex nebulae known. In the center of the Cat's Eye there is a bright and hot star; around 1000 years ago this star lost its outer envelope, producing the nebula.

I thought of giving it a shot at processing this magnificent stellar explosion. The preprocessed data are available on the Chandra site. I used the classical optical palette assignment : 502 N Blue, 505N Green and 658 Red while mixing the X-ray data with the Red channel instead of the Magenta that is usually used (the data isn't in the visible so it's a false color). It's easy to forget just how magical the universe we live in is. Here on Earth, life can be pretty normal, but far past what we can see with the naked eye lies some of the most mind-bending sights imaginable that reveal many secrets about humanity's and the universe origins. This reminds us that there is far, far more going on than we realize.

The full beauty of the Cat's Eye Nebula (NGC 6543) is revealed in this new, detailed view from NASA's Hubble Space Telescope. The image from Hubble's Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) shows a bull's eye pattern of eleven or even more concentric rings, or shells, around the Cat's Eye.
