Born in Taranto, 9th December 1961. Graduated from the University of Siena, Italy, as a "Laboratory Technician of Medical-Biolological Institutes", in 1981. From 1989 to present, CTER at the Institute of Molecular Genetic of the CNR, Unit of Bologna. She has authored 126 full-length publications in peer-reviewed journals, including several high-impact journals such as the Journal of Cell Biology, Molecular Cell Biol., PNAS and Nature Medicine. H-index 33, 4185 citations (source: SCOPUS).
She has collaborated in many projects that have been funded by the European Union (P.I.: Dr. Merlini; Prof. Ferlini), FIRB (P.I.: Prof. Maraldi), PRIN (P.I.: Prof. P. Bonaldo) and Telethon Italy (P.I.: Prof. P. Bonaldo; Prof. P. Bernardi).
She has a background in cell biology, electron microscopy, morphological studies of muscle biopsies from patients affected by muscular dystrophy, and mouse and zebrafish models of muscular dystrophies, with a long-lasting interest in the extracellular matrix and in disease.
