Prof. Dr. Dimitrios Schizas studied at the Medical School of Athens and graduated in 2002. He completed his Specialty Training as a General Surgeon in the Third Department of Surgery, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, at Attikon General Hospital. In addition, he attended a fellowship program in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery at King’s College Hospital in London. He has obtained three MSc diplomas, while his PhD research focused on the epithelial–mesenchymal transition in gastric cancer. Prof. Dr. Dimitrios Schizas’s special clinical and research interests are in upper gastrointestinal surgery and especially surgical oncology (gastric, esophageal and pancreatic cancer). He has numerous publications in renowned international scientific journals (Cancer Treatment Reviews, British Journal of Surgery, Diseases of the Esophagus, etc.). He is also a reviewer in important medical journals such as the British Journal of Surgery, Plos One and Scientific Reports. Finally, he is a member of many international medical associations, such as the International Society of Diseases of the Esophagus, the European Society of Diseases of the Esophagus, and the European-African Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association. In 2018, he was unanimously elected as an Assistant Professor of Surgery and was offered a post in the First Department of Surgery at Laikon General Hospital of Athens.
