Age: 15 before the timeskip, 16 after.
Character summary: Arrogant teen prodigy hailing from a world where alchemy is not only a respectable science but also a powerful weapon. Despite his impulsive streak, hair-trigger temper and bottomless reserves of bloody-minded stubbornness, he's not a complete jerk; he can be wise as well as annoyingly intelligent when he wants to be. Extremely close to his younger brother, who's basically his foil. He has an unusually tragic backstory, and in particular has been a child soldier since the age of twelve, but doesn't tend to make a big deal of it.
Appearance: Wiry, verging on bulky, but short for his age and build even with thick-soled boots on. Long, thick blond hair (generally tied back, normally braided, sometimes in a regular ponytail), with a fringe parted in the centre and an ahoge. Gold eyes. His trademark items of clothing are a red duster with a large black flamel printed on the back and a pair of white gloves; aside from these, he gravitates towards black and white clothes. His outfits tend to do a good job of covering up his right arm and left leg, which are advanced prosthetics called automail.
