This gown, a transitional style between a cotehardie and a houppelande, is based on 15th century Italian sources. The dress is made of red wool and fully lined. The dress laces on the sides with hand sewn eyelets and hand made finger loop braid. The neckline is accented with gold silk and spangles, a precursor to modern sequins. The gown is worn here both with braided hair and with a decorated hat. Description Here is my Giornea (the surcoat like thing) over my Italian gown, and you can get a better look at the lacing in the front. It's one piece, made from a piece of chenille heavy tapestry I got at JoAnns. You can see along the bottom the dagging I have that goes all the way up the sides on the back. I cut off my head cause I didn't like how my face looked in it... but it's no wonder, we did this photoshoot in July, and I nearly passed out from the heat in this thing Costume by me…
