So I had at least two separate dreams last night, but the most memorable of the two went a little something like this:

I had just gone in with a few guys (I really couldn't say who. They were pretty much just vague filler-characters)on buying a house. We got a nice deal, had plenty of space, were all moved in with a fairly kick-ass sounds system set up. All seemed well! But, alas, it was too good to be true.

Apparently the house came with a curse, which manifested as a zombie that we simply couldn't get rid of. It just wandered free-range inside the house, constantly trying to attack us and eat our brains. This was indeed a problem. How were we supposed to live in the same house as a hungry zombie?

Fortunately, we discovered our solution by accident. During a typical day off zombie attack dodging, somebody turned on the stereo. First we discovered that classic rock would send the zombie into an even more unpleasant frenzy. Then, however, we found that some even halfway-decent indie rock would mellow the undead dude right out. At that point, we could even get him to just chill out on the couch and watch TV in the next room over.

So in the end, we kept the house and learned to manage our pet zombie with ease. happy ends for all!

Graaah, cursed late spring allergy season! My everywhere itches.

Seriously. It's never not allergy season in Texas. It's just a matter of which allergy season it is. Sometimes it's the one where my eyes puff up. Other times it's the one where my ears get all watery. Occasionally it's the one where I wake up every morning feeling like a rabid skunk curled up and died in the back of my throat three weeks prior.

Right now it's the allergy season that makes my skin itch all over. It's probably related to the thin coat of yellow pollen that's covering every surface outside right now. Perhaps it's time for yet another shower.

The other day I mentioned to my friend, the mysterious and elusive writer, Fyre Gal'XE, that I was on a bit of a nostalgia kick and stated re-reading some old Weiss Kreuz fic. Then, just in time for Valentine's Day, she surprised me with this little gem which I'm posting here for everyone to enjoy.

So without further ado, I present:

It's cool! Ike didn't kill me or even cause much chaos here.

Unfortunately, in an unrelated problem, the power supply on my desktop died. Sad times. I still have my MacBook and internet access, but this is my srs bsns computer and thus does not have WoW on it. I'll just cry some sad tears.

Hey!

So I didn't die or spent 4 months in a coma or anything. I just have been really lazy haven't had much I felt like writing about.

Anyway, I came to the conclusion sometime last night that I've kinda been living my life on the lowest possible setting for quite a while now, and it's about time I knocked that shit off. A managed to get myself into the rec center for a light workout this afternoon. Man did that feel good after the zero exercise I've been getting lately. I plan to make that a regular thing. My further goals are to actually take care of basic housekeeping like, you know, putting away the clean laundry that's been sitting in the basket for weeks and sorting out all the piles of papers and chaos I've let build up on most surfaces. Good times.

But I can't say I've accomplished nothing lately. I finally got my main WoW character to level 70! I'm such a winner!

So, what's the standard operating procedure for when the ex-boyfriend you fully expected to never hear from again, who you don't hate but for whom some mild resentment still lingers, finds your neglected MySpace profile and friends you? Inquiring minds want to know.

Well, this week's been a bit of a deviation from the norm so far. How refreshing!

I started it off by taking a day trip to Austin on Sunday. I was only there for the afternoon, the result of a combination of me being too lazy to get up in the morning and getting lost along the way due to that fact that Texas apparently doesn't want anyone to find Austin. Seriously, there are signs giving directions to all of the little podunk towns in the middle of nowhere, but not to Austin. Also, you have to make exits to stay on major routes. OK! But I made it there despite Texas' best efforts to stop me and lo, I did shop at the REI, and the Waterloo Records, and Whole Foods, and it was Good.

Tuesday morning I went to my car to set out for work and found that I would be a bit late as my tires, along with those of twenty-come others at the complex, had been slashed. Good times! I got to have a police report filed, and call a tow truck, and file an insurance claim, and get new tires! Whee~. At least I have decent auto insurance, and will get a good chunk of the cost reimbursed.

Last night I finally beat Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney for real! That makes five games total that I've actually finished, out of the multitudes that I've started and abandoned. Now it's time for the sequel.

Here is a recipe for Bathing Rama, a tasty Thai dish that consists of chicken (or tofu!) marinated in a curry sauce, served over a bed of spinach and green onions, and topped with peanut sauce.

Cut for baaaaaby roaches! )

Over a year ago I took over the care of 8 Madagascan Hissing Cockroaches which had been sharing an overcrowded tank with a multitude of death-head cockroaches and slowly starving to death. Some time ago, one of the adult females died, leaving me with five males and only two females. I was hoping they would reproduce but, either due to the unbalances sex ratio or due to stunting from the poor conditions they were previously in, they never did.

Just two days ago, I commandeered three more roaches, one male and two females, from the teaching lab culture. Don't worry, they won't miss them, they have tons. I brought in another male because these roaches are slightly different from mine, probably another species. This brought my roach population up to ten. Huzzah!

But this morning I came into the lab to find that the population was suddenly OVER 9000!1!!. Well, not quite, but it's at least over 100. Apparently one of the females I picked out was very pregnant, so I now have at least a hundred tiny baby hissing roaches skittering about the terrarium. Socute! I'll have to take pictures to post tomorrow.

I went to my very first crawdad boil last night at a friend's place. Good times! It's a lot of work for a little tidbit of meat, but they are tasty little suckers. Someone had gotten a good deal on a bunch of crawdads that were being sold as "bait-size" but were actually eating-size.

The friend who invited me requested that I bring my home-made buttermilk biscuits, which are apparently gaining near-legendary status despite just being from a recipe out of the Betty Crocker cookbook. I guess making them from scratch rather than a mix makes a lot of difference. Really, with as much shortening as goes into them, they can't help but taste good.

Someone else brought along home-made mead, which was very very tasty! Mmmmm sweet and full of spice! I wanted to drink a bunch of it, but I knew it would make for the worst hangover ever and so limited myself to two glasses.

I was also told by a fairly drunk fellow that I have a very pleasant, soothing voice. I guess that's a pretty nice complement, if an unusual one!

So I had this dream last night in which I was hanging out in my apartment and suddenly remembered that I had been dating this girl and came to the realization that, some months later, I wasn't dating her anymore. I was trying to remember why this was when along comes a Hollywood style flashback to her birthday.

I had carefully picked out the complete Screeching Weasel collection, which contained every song ever by that band and was quite proud of my choice. Apparently that was a mistake, as her passive-aggressive this-is-the-worst-gift-ever response comes under the spotlight. Cue flash forward to shortly afterward, when I read the break-up e-mail from her (voiced-over, with a picture of her superimposed in the background) in which I am informed that CD collections are the worst gift choice of all time and a sure sign of failure in a relationship. She then went on to detail the gift she had picked out for our coming anniversary, an autographed photo of legendary manga artist Tezuka, which she had bought off of e-bay at great expense.

We then fade back into the present-day, in which I can't see how my relationship faux pas was all that bad, and complain to her acquaintance, who is suddenly over at my place for some reason, about what a drama queen ex-girlfriend was being.

Ok, subconscious!

Since I'm just about over my plague from last week, Texas has decided that now is a good time to turn the allergens up to eleven.

I woke up from a too long sleep full of weird-ass dreams (more so than usual) to find that my entire skull had apparently been packed full of fiberglass insulation sometime during the night. I then proceeded to sit around, drink a pot of strong coffee, then take my asthma meds all before eating. . . It was a really good plan!

By the time I decided it was time to eat, I was so shaky that I had to drink juice and have a snack before I could fix my breakfast. I was way too twitchy and loopy to be brandishing my super-sharp kitchen knives!

I'm more-or-less functional by now, but I'm probably going to be all groggy for whatever remains of the day. Fun times.

So I had a great time rampaging about Coffeeland with [livejournal.com profile] redconverse and [livejournal.com profile] fiveagainsttwo. I spent the week invading [livejournal.com profile] redconverse's personal space and generally causing havoc in the area.

I will now have to buy a Nintendo DS aws I became helplessly addicted to Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, which I borrowed from red.

I also contracted some sort of plague, most likely while I was on the airplane. Accursed flying cesspools! I'm on three different meds now, all of which have fun side effects. But two are stimulants and one a depressant, so they should at least partially cancel each-other out, right?

OK! I'm off to visit [livejournal.com profile] redconverse in the Land of Good Coffee! Oh man, but I'm sick of this place.

I wanted to get my apartment all cleaned up before I left, but I really only got around to the kitchen. Oh well, it's not like it'll get any messier while I'm gone.

Ahh, I'll have so much rest bonus when I come back to WoW! Most excellent. As long as my internet is, you know, functional... Which it probably won't be. Blarg.

"Yes, yes!" she stridulated as he plunged his membranous aedeagous into her waiting gonopore. The moment of pity she felt for those with obligately parthenogenic reproduction was obliterated as he filled her spermathaeca with enough spermatophore to last the rest of her reproductive life.
