Unlike it sounds, it is not gold on the inside. A solid 14K gold sheet is mechanically bonded with heat and pressure to both sides of a brass base. Gold filled is legally required to contain 5% or 1/20 gold by weight. This is hundreds of times thicker than gold plating which will scrape off rather easily. High quality gold filled metal has the same appearance as 14 karat (58%) gold and will stay beautiful for years with minimal care.
