My mom is a cub scout den leader, specifically for the bears. Awhile back the scouts decided to update their program. My mom was reading the new materials, and there was some instruction about displaying the den flag at all den meetings. Problem: the den didn't have a flag. Here is how I built flag stands for our Cub Scout Den flag and our American flag. This is a simple, yet very rugged, design that young boys can carry around. We use them for opening and closing ceremonies at den meetings. I send the den flag and its stand home with the boys between meetings to build a little den spirit. Den flag using handprints. So much fun. Great for Cub Scouts. It is nice to keep the same flag from Tigers through Webelos. So you can see how much they have grown. Just trace handprint on felt, cut out, glue onto large piece of felt. I used a textured piece of brown felt then added some lines to give it the look of a log. It is easy and you can have your scouts help you make it.

Den Flags: Allowing each den to create their own flag is an awesome activity. The goal is that doing this will allow the cub scouts to have pride in their den.
