It’s Just That Kind Of A Day

I don’t care what his followers believe.  He wimped. Again. Like the cowardly little bully he is. This time he did it internationally. He pissed his pants and ran off the world stage because the EU didn’t so much as blink. Yeah; don’t care about that, either.

Trump Is A Genie-Yus!

Did you get that in writing? (Oh, wait, a piece of paper! What’s that worth?) 👍

I’ll Ask Again…

... what planet is he living on? And… Why can’t we just leave him there? All men [sic] are created equal. But some are more meritorious than others. And they’re the ones who really matter. And Minneapolis is a shining example of neither. Every utterance is an embarrassment.

Let’s Make A Deal 🌮

 Earlier that same day:

In his speech, the president called for "immediate negotiations" on the acquisition of the Arctic territory.

Trump ruled out the use of military force in his speech, a commitment Lange described as a "small positive element."

However, Lange said the proposed 10% to 25% tariffs remain on the table, adding that, until the threat of them is over, "there will be no possibility of compromise."

"We will hold on the procedure ... until there is clarity regarding Greenland and the threats," he said.

"There was a breaking of the Scotland deal by President Trump," Lange said, referring to the trade pact agreed by the EU and the U.S. at Trump's Turnberry golf resort last year.

Lange said Trump is "using tariffs as an instrument of political pressure" as a way to buy Greenland, and described the move as "an attack against the economic and territorial sovereignty of the European Union."

He added that the European Parliament's Committee on International Trade, or INTA, would on Monday discuss the use of the EU's Anti-Coercion Instrument, or ACI — a far-reaching measure variously described as a "trade bazooka" — which would allow the EU to substantially restrict U.S. companies' access to its single market, block them from tenders, reduce the flow of goods and capital, and curb foreign direct investment in the bloc.

"This was created exactly for such a case when a foreign country [uses] tariffs and investment for political and coercive pressure," Lange said of the ACI.
Later that same day: And later than that: Is it just a deal on paper? Or is it not even that? (There is a U.S. treaty with Denmark where we recognized their claim to Greenland in exchange for what are now the U.S. Virgin Islands. But it’s just a piece of paper, right?) Because of course it isn’t. And, of course he did.

Looney As A Clockwork Orange

Q: What goals do you have for 2026 for Congress in terms of getting your agenda through?

TRUMP: I have great executive orders. Like, water coming out of a sink. The water wouldn't come out. They had all sorts of ridiculous restrictions. I took them off. Straws. They don't have to be paper anymore. I'd like to have that all confirmed by Congress.
And now I will forever think of Trump as Gov. Lepetomane gladly signing whatever Hedley Lamarr while the Governor stares longingly at Miss Stein.

Buckle Up, Buttercup

I mean, well, yeah. But historically, removing the POTUS from office is a non-starter. As I say, then we just get Vance. And if Congress threatens him with more of the same, Congress spends two years on impeachment. Which is not exactly a winning strategy for 2028, when voters ask: “What have you done for me lately?”

The collapse in GOP support is because this Congress makes Truman’s “Do Nothing Congress” look like LBJ’s legislative agenda has all been passed.

Points for not reaching for the 25th amendment, though.
Yup. And that’s what Congress is for.

It Doesn’t Matter Where He Is, It Doesn’t Matter Who He’s Talking To

Lebensraum. Sudetenland. 80 years of peace in Europe, broken only by Russia invading a non-NATO European country. Oh, and all of NATO coming to our aid after 9/11. But nothing else.

And Greenland is not NATO’s to give.
Or because the POTUS is a blithering idiot. Depends on your POV. George Clooney was not available for comment. 🤦‍♂️
Trump: So we want a piece of ice for world protection. And they won't give it. We've never asked for anything else, and we could have kept that piece of land and we didn't. So they have a choice. You can say yes, and we will be very appreciative. Or you can say no and we will remember.
The innumerate President. We flew him all the way to Switzerland for this. By comparison? Trampling the constitutional rights of the people is not exactly the way to win friends. Although it will influence people.
There’s a reason a lot of people don’t know that. Racism, xenophobia, and white supremacism is not exactly the look you want for the POTUS on the world stage. Right over his head. He never even looked up to see it go by. Toddler. With a shotgun.

Tom Nichols is right. You really do need to see this in its entirety.

At Some Point…

... you realize that Europe has a much longer history of dealing with pouty, superannuated children in charge of government, and with rulers who were just plain batshit crazy.

Of course, we set up a new form of government to get away from all that. Maybe we should have been more open to a Parliamentary system, and less utopian about a government without political parties (especially seeing how long that ideal lasted after ratification).

Anyway, I think European leaders have a more realistic approach than “INVOKE THE 25th!” Because we’re finding out there is no Presidential escape clause. It’s Trump until this time in 2029. And if it’s not Trump, it’s Vance; which is hardly an improvement.

I think Europe’s gonna handle that better than we will.

Family Separations Are Back

Reality separations, too. There are two conflicting arguments here: one says show it all, the other says don’t give him the free airtime. This makes me want to agree with Nichols; then again, everyone heard about the ET tape. So….
From Blaine: "Grandparents were about to go outside for a walk. They came into our home. Rushed and pinned my brother to the walls and cuffed him. Searched him for weapons. There was none. (he was sleeping for work). My brother asked for a warrant. They then showed a “warrant”, it was on a phone. He further asked to see if it was signed by a judge they ignored him. They then only took my father and shoved him in the car and drove off. My father was in the garage just smoking and doing his regular routine before heading off to work"
He is getting such bad legal counsel.
PAVLICH: Dennis Coyle has been taken hostage by the Taliban for almost a year. What are you doing to get him home?

TRUMP: Well if you give me the name?

PAVLICH: Dennis Coyle

TRUMP: Ok. You give me some information, I can take care of that. I can do some things on the internet that are pretty impactful
Every time you think he can’t prove himself more incompetent….
Vengeance Tour 2025-2029. He means literally, Because gold is his favorite color. Somebody said you are a soulless idiot with delusions of grandeur who is illegally profiting off Presidency. You should be looked at for that.

Opening The 1960’s Time Capsule

And there’s Ol’ Rip Bull Connor, alive and well.

He means like this guy. Because Ma and Pa America should know better than to be in the vicinity of anarchists and agitators. Listen to Bull; he knows. Pretty much what Bull would have said. Welp, he just threw that case out. (Not strictly, but he just became our man on their side.) Is he getting off on this? He’s getting off on this, isn’t he? THIS. IS. NOT. A. CRIME. Nor are Frey and Walz anarchists or agitators. Neither of which category is criminal.
Justice Kavanaugh, we salute you. 🫡 And hope one day to replace you with a bag of bricks. It would be smarter. Alternatively, we hope to make you an object lesson on why Congress should make the Justices ride their circuits again, and get out of their ivory tower and into a trial court again. You want lifetime tenure? You got it. And maybe we should have you ride the circuit on horseback. The fresh air will do you good. Or convince you to retire and stop acting like Mandarins.

“Farewell To Tarwathie”

"…and the king of that country is the fierce Greenland bear.”

A Walking Black Hole Of Ignorance

The Permian Basin alone produces more oil than that in a month. The price of oil is dropping because demand is dropping. What Trump claims to be adding to the market is a drop of water in the ocean. His number is mythical. The output of Venezuela is negligible (note Trump’s actions haven’t affected the oil market at all). This is just gibberish from an ignorant fool. Because he’s the sole proprietor, and Congress is Eric and Jr. No idea. No idea, but differently this time. Wasn’t that Biden’s line? He has no idea what the term means. Can we name them for him? The man is a walking time capsule, stuck in the Sixties. He’s referring to a binder clip. Another Trump accomplishment. And another. A statement that always swings both ways.
Trump: When the woman was shot, I felt terribly about that. And I understand both sides of it. But when she was shot, there was another woman that was screaming: shame, shame, shame, shame…. like a professional opera singer. She was so loud and so professional. She wasn't a woman that was hurt like, “oh my heart is injured.” She was a professional. These are professional agitators and professional people that want to see our country do badly. But that's not happening because we have the hottest country
Just another brick in the wall. No one has ever seen anything like it.

Letting The Days Go By

Harmeet Dhillon is going to use this as “Exhibit A” in the indictment of Don Lemon. Psycho-killer. Utterly clueless. But: I remember when we were allies with Greenland. And Europe. Now our President substitutes trolling for diplomacy: Same as it ever was.

If That’s All It Took….

I’d have had some former church members up on federal charges.

Shouting (rudely) in a church service is not the same thing as “threat, harm, or intimidate.” And I say rude because the name for this supposed ICE assistant came off the internet, and I don’t mean the church’s website.  I would remind the assembled multitude of Michael Cohen the former Trump attorney, and Michael Cohen the prominent commentator on Twitter.

Not the same persons.

This is in the vein of suing (or is it investigating? Accounts differ) Frey and Walz for not approving Trump’s lawless actions (I’m assuming Trump wants them charged with treason). Stupid, is what I’m coming around to.

I don’t know what these protesters did, and that’s the problem. Did they threaten anybody in the church? Or were they just obnoxious? My point being: “obnoxious” is not “intimidation.” The latter is a legal term of art; the former is a social descriptor.

There are basic questions to be asked here. Was this a worship service the protesters interrupted? Or a congregational meeting? Don’t answer that it was on Sunday (was it?). Every church I ever attended had congregational meetings scheduled after Sunday worship. Everyone was already there: captive audience, sort of. What do we know about this event? News reports? Reporters are basically second-class idiots. They know next to nothing, and if it isn’t explained to them in very big letters and very small words, they won’t learn anything new (I know that’s harsh, but I’ve dealt with reporters and their reporting, and I never recognized the reality in their “story.”). I sometimes think they think “ignorance” makes them pure; or something. Anyway, don’t expect them to understand anything about any subject, or to report all the facts you need to know.

Which means, this is why prosecutors do investigations, and don’t announce the results of their findings until they go to court. There are many reasons for this, ethical and otherwise, but the basic reason is: you don’t know what you don’t know, and you don’t find out from news reports. They are basically gossip, and almost nothing in them can form admissible evidence in a court of law. Which is what you need if you’re going to prosecute a crime.

So is there even any basis for charging violations of the Ku Klux Klan Act? Literally nobody knows yet. I’m not asking stupid questions. The details matter. What can be presented in court, matters. It’s all that matters.

But Dhillon wants to try her case on social media. The place where facts don’t really matter.

I have had church members try to intimidate me in congregational meetings. It never occurred to me to make a federal case out of it. For obvious reasons.

It needs to occur to the head of the DOJ Civil Rights Division.

Lagniappe: it’s funny how this happens. I publish a post, and I find a tweet.
The family’s statement is a nice example of press criticism which I endorse. Credulously repeating the statements of the government because “objectivity” and “fairness to both sides” is just indefensible. As Joe Scarborough said, DHS has been lying, albeit for a longer time than the shooting of Renee Good.

And yet the gossip goes on.

As Molly Ivins So Often Said:

"It’s a representative government.” Where else but South Carolina? Home of Fort Sumter. I saw worse in the’60’s. Except now, the states are the “good guys.” Remember when the GOP called the states “laboratories of democracy”? Pepperidge Farm remembers. Well, that’s still the narrative. But can somebody explain that to Sen. Cassidy?

It would seem narratives aren’t reality after all.
STOP THE PRESSES! THIS IS NEWS!!!!!!!! Another proud graduate of the Trump University School of Law.  Although…has J.D. Vance approved this yet? (And no, if you were wondering; not even the Insurrection Act would give Trump the authority to do that. That would be martial law, and there is no provision for suspending the Constitution (10th Amendment in particular) in the Constitution.) Well, the Senate won’t vote to remove (probably not even in ‘27-‘28), and we’d get the same Administration, with Vance as POTUS.

We need Congress to grow a spine.

We’re fucked, aren’t we? All for the price of eggs.🍳

American Exceptionalism Ain’t What It Used To Be

In all seriousness, Ms. Applebaum: what was your first clue? He’s been an enemy of the people longer than that. Which contestant wins the “Captain Obvious” booby prize?

Phone lines are open. This is a free call.
Harmeet Dhillon is sending more FBI agents right away. To…defend the civil rights of Target shoppers to fill their shopping carts with cheap crap? It’s not like Grandpa hasn’t been ranting about this for a long time now….
🔥Ex Greenland parliament member: “Trump doesn’t know about Greenlandic people. We don’t value💰/Kardashian lips/fake boobs… we won’t give up free health care & education… 🇺🇸are so greedy they’re trying to shoot their friends… Trump surrounds himself with white power— our rights would probably be taken away.”
But...freedumb?

⛪️

Assistant AG Harmeet Dhillon on a church service being disrupted by ICE protesters in the Twin Cities: "There are already 2 prosecutors from my office on their way to Minneapolis and they'll be there this morning. We have an FBI team assembled. This is gonna get the highest attention from the DOJ."
Context: Yahoo News:
According to social media posts, the pastor identified by protesters is David Easterwood, who has been listed in federal records as the Acting Field Office Director for Enforcement and Removal Operations in the Saint Paul Office of ICE. Protesters say they entered the church and interrupted the service to call attention to what they describe as an unacceptable overlap between religious leadership and immigration enforcement roles.
I’m curious as to what civil rights criminal violation she thinks occurred. 🤔 Excuse me while I repeat myself:

Conservatives Say Renée Good Was Brainwashed By Bible Into Loving Thy Neighbor
WASHINGTON—Calling her actions “indefensible,” Vice President JD Vance stated Thursday that Renée Good was brainwashed by the Bible into loving thy neighbor. “The fact of the matter is that Renée Good was radicalized by these deranged, left-wing texts,” said Vance, whose response to the death of the 37-year-old Minneapolis mother was reiterated across social media by MAGA voters and GOP lawmakers who emphasized that the blame for her slaying lay squarely on the Scriptures that had “poisoned” her mind. “She was obsessed. I don’t know who ‘Matthew’ and ‘Mark’ are, if those are even their real names, but they should know that they will not escape accountability. Frankly, we should deport everybody who follows this insanity. There’s no ‘Golden Rule’ in U.S. immigration code.” At press time, the Department of Justice had reportedly launched an investigation after receiving a tip that there was a whole fringe network of these so-called “followers of Christ.”
🙄

The People Who Greet You In Hell

Rachel Good got a death benefit. 6 month old baby now has a trust fund. Like driving in public? DEPORT HIM! It’s the American way. 🇺🇸 Grandpa needs his nap.💤

Fact Or Fiction?

And A Congress That Says: “Meh.”

Confirmed by prime minister in Norway, here is his answer to the letter:

«I can confirm that this is a message I received yesterday afternoon from President Trump. It came as a reply to a short message I sent to President Trump earlier the same day, on behalf of myself and Finland’s President Alexander Stubb. In our message to Trump, we conveyed our opposition to his increased tariffs against Norway, Finland, and other selected countries. We emphasized the need to de-escalate the rhetoric and requested a phone call between Trump, Stubb, and myself later that day. Trump’s reply came only a short time after we sent the message. It was Trump’s choice to share the message with other leaders in NATO countries.

Norway’s position on Greenland remains unchanged. Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, and Norway fully supports the Kingdom of Denmark in this matter. We also support NATO strengthening its work, in a responsible manner, to promote security and stability in the Arctic. As for the Nobel Peace Prize, I have on several occasions clearly explained to Trump what is well known: it is an independent Nobel Committee-not the Norwegian government—-that awards the prize.”

And Then What?

The GOP Congress decides they have to back Trump because jingoism trumps common sense? Or “party loyalty” (when Trump is only loyal to Trump). Even though they could simply act for the sake of common sense and take Trump’s toys away. Or multi-national corporations decide Trump is (finally!) meddling with primal forces?

Or they all just wait for the Supremes to save them from responsibility?

“When elephants fight, the grass gets trampled.” We, the people, ain’t the elephants in that metaphor.

Certainly Looks Like They Need The Marines

Clearly the Marines are needed to quell this violence…? JFC, this perennial again? You read it, dipshit:
Section 3

Whenever the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that he is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, and until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary, such powers and duties shall be discharged by the Vice President as Acting President.

Section 4

Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President. Thereafter, when the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that no inability exists, he shall resume the powers and duties of his office unless the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive department or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit within four days to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. Thereupon Congress shall decide the issue, assembling within forty-eight hours for that purpose if not in session. If the Congress, within twenty-one days after receipt of the latter written declaration, or, if Congress is not in session, within twenty-one days after Congress is required to assemble, determines by two-thirds vote of both Houses that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall continue to discharge the same as Acting President; otherwise, the President shall resume the powers and duties of his office.
Sections 1 and 2 concern succession, not removal. Nor does this remove the President from office. And read it carefully: it can only be implemented AGAINST the POTUS by the VPOTUS and a majority of the Cabinet. And then it becomes a fight between those parties to keep the POTUS out of power. At best, VPOTUS is only Acting President; and the POTUS can challenge that, and even throw it into Congress.

And then you expect Congress to make Vance the Acting President until 2028? First, you gotta expect Vance to pull off a coup d’état. Then you expect Congress to back him, by 2/3rds in each house?

STOP CALLING THIS A SOLUTION TO TRUMP! It just makes you look as stupid as Trump. The only solution is impeachment in the House and removal by the Senate. There is no other option prior to 2028.
Much more sensible. Hmmmmm..... Will the EO will also designate which broadcaster carries the game (Trump is unaware of streaming)?

And then he plans an EO setting a new schedule for the tides.

See BS

I’m gonna back the truck up here, because Ross was not struck and he was not hospitalized.

There is no video showing Good’s car making contact with Ross. And the New York Times recently reported that Ross didn’t leave the crime scene for a hospital. He was taken, by ICE, to a federal building.

I know Noam stole the spotlight. But Brennan is just peddling Administration bullshit. SEE BS also reported the “internal injuries” lie, one from “anonymous sources” that was never corroborated. And which NYT debunked with the story of where Ross was actually taken.

Obviously it’s too much to expect See BS journalists to know that.

BECAUSE WE DON’T WANT TO DO OUR JOB!

BREAM: Is the FBI conducting an investigation into the ICE agent who shot Renee Good?

BLANCHE: What happened that day has been reviewed by millions of Americans because it was recorded. We investigate when it's appropriate to investigate. That is not the case here. We are not going to bow to pressure. So no, we are not investigating.
"Public pressure”? To do the government’s job of investigating a murder? A murder committed in broad daylight? As he said, on film. What, Blanche is afraid the government would win that case? Which would mean, of course, they lose.

I think Blanche just confessed the problem.

Voldemort Wants Everyone To Be On Their Own

Scott knows healthcare insurance. He made his packet in Medicare fraud. Aside from the title of a ghost written book that Trump didn’t even come up with, cite one example of his deal making prowess that doesn’t involve fraud or bankruptcy. These people are so bad at their jobs. (And honestly, I expect the agency numbers are inflated.) It would seem the numbers go even lower. And indicate the number of criminals caught is going lower, too. So we need the Marines to round up all the people in Minneapolis, including the mayor (he’s under investigation, after all), because it’s the only way to be sure?

Are we gonna remake “Escape from New York” but set it in Minnesota?
Brennan: Are your agents going to comply with the order not to use chemical agents?

Noem: The order was a little ridiculous because the judge told us that we couldn’t do what we already aren’t doing

Brennan: But we just saw video of chemical agents being used.

Noem: We only use those chemical agents when there's violence happening
Whose violence? (And yes, I saw that loophole coming as soon as I read about the court order.)
