Sweaters In July...

Poor Emily - First I make absolutely nothing for a month or so, and then I saddle her with a couple sweaters in the middle of summer! With another one on the needles! LOL
The thing I love about knitting is that there's never a pattern that doesn't teach me something, whether it's a more efficient way of constructing something, or that I really hate M1 increases. *grin*
First up was a sweater I've had a mental image of for quite some time. I wanted a sort of 1930s look, with rolled hems, and whether it is historically accurate is questionable, but it came out exactly as I'd hoped!
I used the free pattern from DollsWest Designs again ( I seriously love this pattern!), but made some modifications to get the look I wanted:
Sleeves - Replace Rows 1 to 8 of the pattern with “Knit 24 rows stockinette”
Body - Replace rows 1-10 with 14 rows stockinette stitch
Neck/collar - Replace rows 1 though 6 with “Knit 4 rows stockinette” Make sure you bind off losely.
I found there wasn’t much roll and it was easily contained by blocking. I had originally thought that if it rolled too much at the hems I’d just sew a bit of ribbon inside to prevent it. I was surprised I didn’t need to! I kept the roll very small, as I wanted it to look proportional, and it was only in the middle of the body section that it even tried to roll more, which worked out well for me!

The second was a pattern I've been planning on trying for quite some time but hadn't gotten to! It's Wovenflame's Top Down Raglan Tunic pattern, and worked up so quickly in comparison to the sweater above! LOL
I really like the look of this one too, and will probably do another one, though at regular length rather than tunic. I know just the colour, too! Though, hmm... a striped one might be seriously adorable too!
This pattern can be found on Ravelry, along with pictures of much more complicated, prettier versions. ;)
The sweater currently on the needles is actually one intended for Bitty Bethany, but from what I've read, there's a good chance it will fit Emily fairly well. If it doesn't, I can always give it away, I'm sure!
It's at the same gauge as the blue sweater, so it is moving along quickly. After my unintended break from knitting, this is practically a flood!
Now if only I could figure out what manner of perversity it is that makes me want to knit sweaters in the depth of summer and make cute summer outfits when looking out into 6 ft snowdrifts...

Date: 2011-09-04 06:43 pm (UTC)I love that pattern by Dollswest Designs, but have to admit it is one of her simplest patterns. Some of hers are out of my skill level or just take me a very long time to knit! *grin* But they are certainly worth the time!
