Since I'll be leaving quite early tomorrow morning to make it to my sister's house, and won't be online, I'm saying this now:

Merry Christmas!

(OR Happy Random Day in December!  Whichever makes you happy!)

Hope you have a peaceful and enjoyable day!

So this whole "having cable in my home" thing does lead to more television watching.  Though mostly On Demand, because frankly, I can't stay up till 11pm to watch shows, and a lot of the ones I like are on at 10pm! LOL

My MNF Chloe is out for delivery!  Which likely means I will be picking her up from the post office tomorrow after work, but yay!

And then Fairyland goes and comes out with new hands for the Pukifee!  They have clasping hands, which I have wanted for forever!  I have three Pukifee, so really, I NEED these! LOL

They have a pointing finger hand too, which Cairo needs, as she enjoys a good lecture as much as anyone.  And Kipling wants these ones, so she can give a "thumbs up!"

I'm going to have to wait and order through DDE though, as the shipping from Fairyland would cost about as much as the hands. *grin*  I can't wait!

Still slowly working away at a couple projects.   I'm making a plain pink pullover from a Dollswest pattern for my incoming Minifee Chloe, who should finally get here next month sometime!  Yay!!!   I'm on the part of the body that seems to be endless rows of stockinette at the moment, but I'll get it done eventually.... LOL

I took a break from knitting to do some sewing last night.  Made Emily (Fairyland Littlefee Ante) a pair of black leggings, and got the bodice of a dress done.  I just need to do the two layers of skirt, and of course, sew on the velcro.   I cut out a couple more shirts for Ellowyne/MNF Chloe, as well.

You see, a family member was about to throw out some completely unworn black tank tops on Sunday, so I was obliged to rescue them and  use up the fabric. ;)

Also on the weekend, I found a set of the new micro Littlest Pet Shop toys, and picked them up.  They'll be great props for pictures with Emily and the Pukifee - they're the perfect size!

Got a few projects done recently, all doll related... see behind the cut for pictures!

I've been giving Sebastian (Fairyland Minifee Ruth) a bit of a makeover, in preparation for his sister's arrival...true, she won't be here till October, most likely, but he already looks a lot better with darker hair and some more casual clothes!

The wardrobe for my perspective Minifee Chloe is a work in progress...I'm working on a plain Dollswest Designs sweater for her now, but it takes a lot longer to knit for that size than it does for LittleFee! LOL

Emily now has a sleeping faceplate, as well, which I am delighted about. I was so lucky to catch one for sale! I have regretted not getting her a sleeping faceplate since I got her.

So I changed my journal name to Randomfish, as that is the username I use on Ravelry, Den of Angels, and a variety of other places.  Flickr was mean and wouldn't let me have it, so I'm *Randomfish over there!

So still me, just a different username here!

Poor Emily - First I make absolutely nothing for a month or so, and then I saddle her with a couple sweaters in the middle of summer! With another one on the needles! LOL

The thing I love about knitting is that there's never a pattern that doesn't teach me something, whether it's a more efficient way of constructing something, or that I really hate M1 increases. *grin*

First up was a sweater I've had a mental image of for quite some time. I wanted a sort of 1930s look, with rolled hems, and whether it is historically accurate is questionable, but it came out exactly as I'd hoped!

I used the free pattern from DollsWest Designs again ( I seriously love this pattern!), but made some modifications to get the look I wanted:

Sleeves - Replace Rows 1 to 8 of the pattern with “Knit 24 rows stockinette”

Body - Replace rows 1-10 with 14 rows stockinette stitch

Neck/collar - Replace rows 1 though 6 with “Knit 4 rows stockinette” Make sure you bind off losely.

I found there wasn’t much roll and it was easily contained by blocking.  I had originally thought that if it rolled too much at the hems I’d just sew a bit of ribbon inside to prevent it. I was surprised I didn’t need to!   I kept the roll very small, as I wanted it to look proportional, and it was only in the middle of the body section that it even tried to roll more, which worked out well for me!

I celebrated by taking Emily out for some pictures. (Seriously, I thought it would never be warm enough again! LOL)

Now if only I could the the Small People the stand still to get similar quality pictures of them!  LOL  I swear we have three pictures of my niece that are not a blur since she was old enough to crawl....

 There is awesome, and then there is this.

That's right, someone made a Muppet Theatre playset, and it is so detailed!  And well thought out!  And in general:  awesome!  Seriously, you need to go admire it.

Imagine the work that went into creating it..... :)

It's WEDNESDAY!  Less Than Three updated and I have things to read!!!!

...I think the fact that I had not idea what day today was says everything that needs to be said about work this week.

Stories! :)

ETA:  Good greif!  Silver Bullet Chapter 15B is out too!  I have a wealth of things to read!  (And yet, 26 minutes before I am supposed to have gone to bed.  I may have to portion this out and read some tomorrow... LOL)

So, I love sewing/knitting/crafting of any sort for Fairyland LittleFee dolls. At 25cm, they're what I consider the perfect size for such endeavors! A lot of yarn/fabric/supply of your choice is not required, yet they are large enough that you aren't going mad with fiddly little bits. (Or, well, you don't need to! LOL)

IMG_8815 So there is now a group to gather together patterns and tutorials (both free and for purchase), and add reviews, tips, and pictures of the results of those patterns. There's a surprising number of patterns there so far, though I'm absolutely sure there are more out there, and some utterly adorable outfits in the group pool!

We could definitely use some more reviews and opinions from people who've used the patterns thus far, as the more people comment, the more useful it will be when someone is considering trying a pattern! :)

Patterns for LittleFee can be found here.

~~~
My apologies to those of you not here for the dolls....I'm sure I'll do something non-doll-related soon! ;)
Truthfully, it's been sitting around waiting for snaps for a while...I hate sewing snaps! LOL But I'm very pleased with how it came out. :)
This is from a free DollsWest Designs pattern (#8), and is done in Knitpicks Gloss Laceweight (Cyan). It looks a little boxier in this picture than it is in real life, and I really like the colour on Emily. I took the time to actually block it at all the points the pattern told me too, and I really do think it made quite a difference. It looks so much nicer than many of my other attempts!
Had a chance to take a few pictures yesterday, and started out with a mental list of pictures I wanted to take, of which this was one.
Then on a whim I pulled out Flake, and as is always mysteriously the way, the unplanned pictures are the ones I like the best! LOL
Emily believes in Fairies...and apparently, they believe in her, too!
 Emily's sweater is done except for the snaps!
It took me about three weeks, because I found knitting with such tiny needles a bit challenging! LOL  I haven't tried it on her yet, but it gives every indication of fitting.  I need two sew a bit of ribbon to stabilize the snaps when I put them on, and then I have just the thing to make up the rest of the outfit. :)
Probably won't be able to do the sewing till tomorrow, and then I have to decide which of the several projects I want to work on next...
We have a newcomer!  My RealPuki SoSo had arrived, and may actually be even cuter in real life than in the pictures.
It's hard to describe how tiny she is!  Somehow "about 9cm tall" just doesn't emphasize it enough... LOL
She doesn't have her own wig (ordered from 1Mim), and her clothes are not here yet, so she doesn't look quite like herself yet.   She's borrowed a Puki wig, which looks cute from the front, but weird from the side due to differences in head shape.  She's wearing one of the little dresses I made her from this pattern, which is awesome!
She seems equally as poseable as the other Fairyland dolls I have (Puki, Pukifee, Littlefee, and Minifee).
I have to admit, she reminds me of my niece a lot, as the Nieceling is also very tiny and delicate looking, and possessed of an adorable grin.
...No elf ears, though!
I brought this tiny one to work with me, which I haven't done before, and she is grinning at me from behind the desk calendar, making me smile despite the already high-stress day.
I'm very tempted to take apart the white Pukifee wig I have and don't use, and see if I can turn it into a temporary wig (or two) for her until her real one arrives.  She'll have a white, waist-length mohair wig.
The order from Spampy is supposed to be finished by the end of this week, so within a couple weeks she will have an adorable little outfit of dress and leggings, and the World's Teeniest Sleeping Bag to sleep in at night.  She also has a couple little shirt dresses from Etsy that should be arriving any day now.
I was actually quite pleased that the things I made before Flake's arrival fit pretty well.  She can also wear some Puki clothing.   For example, she can wear Kismet's top, but the bloomers that go with it are just too wide and add too much bulk.
It's crazy, but I seriously want to knit and crochet for her, despite the fact that I'd probably have to use embroidery thread or something!! LOL My brain must be getting warped by Emily's sweater.  I should be at the point I can join up the sleeves to body on that tomorrow!
At first I had quite a hard time with the tiny stitches, but it has gotten much easier with practice.  Although I live in fear of a dropped stitch, as I'm not sure I'd be able to SEE it!!
Then I can start Wovenflame's top-down Tunic for Emily as well - Since winter shows no signs of wanting to end, might as well keep going with the warm clothes! LOL
 Last night I thought I'd draft the pattern for the wrap dress and second attempt at leggings.  I've been sketching them all over my notes this week at work, so I'd put a fair bit of thought into them already.
Then I figured as long as I'd gotten that far, I might as well cut out the fabric, and went looking for fabric I do not love.  (Because it's the first try of the pattern, and therefore unlikely to end well. *grin*)
Then I figured, well, no harm in starting sewing the leggings, just to see.
Then I finished sewing the leggings and made adjustments to the pattern for the next attempt.  It's not too badly off - the legs are right now (last time they were a bit too wide), it's just the waist that needs adjusting.
Then I figured, I've still got time, why not  start the wrap dress?  I dearly want to see how it turns out, and it's likely to take me 400 tries to get it right!  So I'll just start, maybe just do the shoulders, so I can get an idea of the fit...
So I sewed the shoulders.  Then I sewed four miles of trim to the neckline (It's a wrap dress, the "neckline" means all the way across the front for both sides!!), cursing myself all the time, because who sews fancy trim on a prototype that is likely to be unusable?
Other than me, obviously.
I managed to stop before doing the sleeves, as I was getting pretty tired and more prone to making mistakes.  I was surprised to find that it actually looks like it may fit pretty well!  I do want to use a lighter knit, and a better colour, but overall?   I don't think the pattern itself is going to need a lot of revision!   It helps that I had the A-Line dress pattern to work off of, I think. :)
The package at the post office was my yarn, so now I have laceweight in some lovely colours.   The vivid blue (this one, in cyan) is the one I'm going to use for my second try at the sweater.  However, it all comes in skeins, and so I think I'll be spending lunch today putting it into a ball.   We'll see.  Maybe I'll try doing one sleeve with the yarn this way and see if it causes tangles.   I can't wait to start!
For your amusement, here's my first try at the sweater and an object lesson in getting gauge!
It's okay...you can laugh!  *grin*  For the record, I'm quite sure it fits SOME doll...just not this one!
Bookcases
I very much love my background and floor from Raw*Kiss, but have been thinking I really wanted an extra wall, and it should have bookcases.
I sketched and measured, and went to the craft store to find Balsa wood.
And found a shot glass display case for half off. I took off the front cover, turned it on it's side, and sure enough, it's almost exactly the dimensions I wanted! (Though I was going to make mine in two pieces.)
I love it!
I love when things can be used for purposes other than intended! LOL
I'm not good with making things up as I go along for sewing, knitting, or crochet. I'm an expert at starting with a pattern and then changing it to something else, but starting from scratch tends to end badly, no matter how many tutorials about pattern-making I read.
Except that last week I started trying to put together a simple pattern for a knit A-Line dress (with more fitted sleeves than the usual doll sleeves you see) for my LittleFee. I've been on this kick about wanting her to have more clothes that look like real clothes, instead of doll clothes, if that makes sense.
And the first trial run of the pattern...worked! LOL
IMG_1731_edited-1
It's not very exciting looking, but it's very customizable and easy to embellish.  I added ruffles and a patch pocket, here, and my second trial version has a layered look.  If that one comes out okay as well, I'll be scanning in the pattern and putting it on Flickr to share.  I do hope it works out okay!
I love the free patterns that people post, and I want to help too! LOL
