The nurse's candlelight vigil for Alex Pretti was a lot. Bone chillingly cold. My candle kept blowing out in the wind. The speeches were amazing. The humanity and community felt real and strong and clear. And there was bag pipes playing amazing grace, which kinda took me out. I just found it funny in a way that felt inappropriate for such a somber event. idk, idk. The brass band was amazing. Like something out of Louisiana. They played this little light of mine and I got a little choked up.
The vigil wasn't even originally going to be held at the site of his execution. Originally, it was going to be at the VA hospital. But we learned that the federal police were planning on arresting anyone who showed up for unlawful assembly on federal property. The crime has a sentence of up to six months in jail, or so I've learned. Part of me is angry enough that I wish we had gone, just to dare them to try it. But I know that isn't helpful. Its just me being emotional. But thats all I am these days.
I should focus on the things that help. I'm reconnecting with friends irl. fellow nurses who feel as angry and determined as i do. and the vigil made it clear that that feeling is everywhere. there were chants and calls to action. Over and over we screamed Alex's name. Rene Good's. Keith Porter's.
And someone had a sign. I never saw it, but the last speech referred to it. It read, don't worry Alex, we'll take it from here.
Tomorrow I'm going to a small training to be more helpful to the people risking their necks in our cities. I won't say more about it. Its probably a bad idea to share as much as I do. & I'm a middle child millennial. I know oversharing on the internet is stupid. But I just want to be useful. Even if feeling happy or okay right now feels so fucking impossible.
Wish me luck.
Fandom Snowflake 2026 Challenge #15
Jan. 29th, 2026 03:08 pmHow Did the Fandom Snowflake Challenge Go? Post your answer to today’s challenge in your own space and leave a comment in this post saying you did it.
Well, Chat. Gonna be honest, I can't say the snowflake challenge went well. I certainly tried. But only I completed half the challenges, and skipped over quite a few. and my imaginary self imposed time limit in my neurotic brain matters more than the freestyle set up of the challenge, so don't even remind me I can backtrack. I know I didn't make enough of an effort to engage with other people's journals. I didn't leave comments or reach out or try to make friends. Overall I'm beat and kicking myself. I feel like a drag. & this year was supposed to be different.
And it is, technically? Last January the cities weren't being occupied by masked kidnapping gunmen. So there's that.
But I didn't give my goal my best effort. Sure, I'm using my journal again. But not like I wanted to. Escapism just doesn't feel like much of an option for now. Or it doesn't feel like something I have a right too.
I'm tired from protests. And I'm tired of vigils. Tired of not feeling helpful to myself or anyone else.
Guess the best thing I can say is, I want to shake this off? I want to keep trying to post come February, March, ect. And maybe I will try not to guilt myself for all the dumb things I daydream and wish I could write in a better world that was safer and freer than this one.

Catfights: JUSTICE LEAGUE AMERICA #37, …EUROPE #13 (JLI 50)
Jan. 29th, 2026 03:39 pm
The cover of Justice League America #37 is one of Adam Hughes’ best on the title (which is saying something), but it’s open to multiple interpretations.
( Don’t worry, it’s not a Magic Eye poster. )
The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy

Routes I've played (spoilers only for route names):
- Route 0 ✅ (completed entirely) - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Excellent introduction, I enjoyed the mystery of everything. I kind of want to replay it after 100%ing the rest of the game?
- 2nd Scenario ✅ - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Very very good, the last battle got me good.
- Reset ✅ - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Lots of fanfic potential here.
- Goodbye Eito ✅ - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Very good.
- Rebellion ✅ - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Possibly my favorite, definitely has my favorite ending.
- Eva ✅ - ⭐⭐ - Had some interesting ideas that it didn't do much with
- Multiple Eitos ✅ - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Excellent. So good.
- Serial Battles ⭕ (unstarted) - I do want to 100% the game so I'll get to it eventually but I'm not super excited about the prospect lol
- Conspiracy ✅ - ⭐ - Would be zero stars if I could find a way to communicate that in emoji. Awful.
- Casual ⭕ - Looking forward to this route!
- Box of Blessings ⭕ - I'm looking forward to more lore from this route, but suspect it won't be incredibly enjoyable.
- Box of Calamity ✅ - ⭐⭐⭐ - It was decent at parts, tedious in others.
- Cult of Takumi 🟨 (in progress) - Still pretty early in this one.
- V'ehxness ✅ - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Loved the dimension that this gave to V'ehxness
- Coming of Age ✅ - ⭐ - Hated it. It had a few good moments but mostly I hated the whole vibe of it all.
- Retsnom ⭕ - Looking forward to it!
- Steady Fundamental 🟨 - I'm mostly enjoying it, with some caveats.
- Romance ⭕ - Probably the route I am looking the least forward to, even less than Serial Battles. I hope it has some decent moments, at least.
- Slasher ✅ - ⭐⭐⭐ - I didn't hate it, and enjoyed some branches, but other branches just felt tedious.
- Comedy ✅ - ⭐⭐⭐ - Some bits were funny, most were tedious, but it did give me all the free time I needed at least.
- Killing Game ✅ - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐- Another possible favorite, I loved the character writing.
- Mystery ✅ - ⭐⭐⭐ - It was alright, I guess.
Characters (spoilers only for character names):
- Takumi - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Excellent protagonist
- Takemaru - ⭐⭐⭐ - He's fun, if underdeveloped as a character
- Hiruko - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - LOVE, she's so great
- Darumi - ⭐⭐⭐ - She's fine, I guess
- Eito - ⭐⭐ - Kind of flat to me tbh
- Tsubasa - ⭐⭐⭐ - She's fine
- Gaku - ⭐⭐ - More annoying than charming
- Ima - ⭐⭐⭐ - He's alright
- Kako - ⭐⭐⭐ - She's alright
- Shouma - ⭐⭐ - Has potential, but has so far generally been underutilized in the routes that I've played
- Nozomi - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - FAVE. Love her so much
- Kurara - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Very fun
- Kyoshika - ⭐⭐⭐ - Kind of one note, but she is pretty funny and I love her relationship with Kurara.
- Yugamu - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - LOVE him, he's great
- Moko - ⭐ - Eh. One note and kind of annoying
- Eva - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - LOVE her, I wish we got to see more of her real personality
- Sirei - ⭐⭐ - Don't like him as a person, as a character I find him kind of interesting but everyone else more so
- Nigou - ⭐⭐⭐ - Started off thinking he was ugly af but now I've come around and think he's cute
- V'ehxness - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Kind of a one note villain, but she's given enough complexity for me
- Shion - ⭐⭐⭐ - He's alright
I think that mostly summarizes my thoughts? Oh, and ships. Here are my favorite ships.
No outright spoilers, just the ships themselves:
Favorite: Eva/Nozomi
Love: Takumi/V'ehxness, Takumi/Hiruko, Hiruko/Darumi, Darumi/Takumi/Tsubasa/Yugamu
Like: Nozomi/Takumi (as long as it's twisty and fucked up), Nozomi-G/Takumi, Ima/Kako, Kurara/Kyoshika, Kurara/Nozomi, Takemaru/Hiruko, Takumi/Yugamu
NOTPs: Gaku/any female character but especially Eva or Kurara

In which I ramble about my ace spec Daniel Jackson headcanon
Jan. 29th, 2026 12:22 pmIf you already know this stuff, feel free to skip to below the read more.
So! Being on the ace spectrum means you experience little to no sexual attraction. Being asexual isn’t the same as being aromantic. Aromantic means you experience little to no *romantic* attraction. You can be aro and ace, but a lot of ace people aren’t. For instance, I’m grey-ace biromantic, which to me means I very rarely experience sexual attraction to real people but I’m romantically attracted to multiple genders.
I headcanon as Daniel being ace spec but not aromantic. I don’t think he’s heteroromantic either. I don’t have a label in mind beyond that that I’d give to him. But yeah, that’s the perspective I’m coming from in with my headcanon!

Fandom Snowflake Challenge: Favorite Tropes
Jan. 29th, 2026 03:24 amI'm skipping around the challenge a bit since I'm still constructing my answers for the other ones as I'm way behind at the moment, but this one is one that I know I can answer easily since I definitely have a lot of favorite tropes. I answered last years trope challenge with only one specific trope which I still maintain is a top favorite in recent years, but this will be a more extensive list. Mind you, not all my favorites as that would take forever, just a handful.
( Tropes, tropes, glorious tropes.... )
Some links and such.
Jan. 29th, 2026 08:10 am+ Fishery is still bad. People are here aalllll the tiiiime. I want to shove my face in a pillow and banshee shriek. I want to be in a small, slightly chilly and soundproof box. Absolute and utter isolation for one, please.
+ Adding to that, one of the crew has started sitting at my (usually empty) back table for meals, so now it's active conversation time on top of it all. And boy does she want to talk about how the solar flares are affecting her, and what are my thoughts on the aliens, she thinks they're friendly (watches yt about aliens every day). Girl, I know you know I'm into tarot, but we are Not The Same.
+ I'm not sleeping enough and it's not helping.
+ Did a silly and signed up for Fandom Trumps Hate. Do people still want icons at all time will tell 🤷🏻♀️ Offered IWTV, Pluribus, and WoT with the fandom ticky boxes, "You're welcome to request specific pairings, characters, or scenes from those three fandoms. I am also willing to do icons from the following comics: Absolute Wonder Woman, Thompson's Birds of Prey, Wilson's Poison Ivy, Galaxy The Prettiest Star, Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow, Far Sector, Abbott, Ahmed's Exiles." Should maybe have specified a number, but I figured I'd wait and see the bid amount to decide.
+ The Endless Appetite for Fanfiction.
On the surface, this feels like it should be a good thing: More fic readers means more people in fandom, right? Instead, I read post after post talking about how distant writers felt from these newer readers—how impersonal and lonely the act of fannish creation has become. Anecdotes where readers gush about a fic on Discord, but make zero attempts to connect with the author. Screenshots of fic titles or passages with no URLs—and captions like, “I wish I could tell the person who wrote this how incredible it is.”
+ To Fandom, With Love. (previously at Bitch Magazine, published 2020, now re-uploaded)
I also made friends through fanfic—actual, honest-to-goodness close friends. Comments on each others’ fics turned into email correspondences that began with exchanging headcanons about our favorite characters, and expanded into mutual care and support—often around issues we’d first broached anonymously in our respective works.
+ Neil Young trashes Amazon, gives his complete musical catalog to Greenland for free.
“Amazon is owned by Jeff Bezos, a billionaire backer of the president,” he wrote. “The president’s international policies and his support of ICE make it impossible for me to ignore his actions. If you feel as I do, I strongly recommend that you do not use Amazon. There are many ways to avoid Amazon and support individual Americans and American companies that supply the same products. I have done that with my music and people who are looking can find it in a lot of other places."
+ There is no such thing as other people’s children.
+ Talking Greatness to Death. On Ryan Coogler's sins and the kinds of performances that attract vampires.
+ Does anybody want me to do a lil tarot draw for them? I can do A World Without Shrimp (feeling as though something is missing from your life, this spread can help you identify what you're craving), or Five By Five (general idea of how things are going).
+ Dropkick Murphy's performing Citizen I.C.E. live in Paris. Enjoy!

Snowflake Challenge #14: Fandom Promo
Jan. 28th, 2026 02:58 pmMY TIME HAS COME!! I was actually just thinking about making a short rec list for horror movie fanfics, so that’s what I’m gonna do for this prompt. These recs are mostly gonna be for Alien franchise fics and Nightmare on Elm Street fics, but there might be a few other things thrown in there. : )
Alien franchise fics:
Ypsilon’s Quotient by Queen of the Red Skittle on FFnet – Truly one of my favorite Alien fics. It is about a Weyland-Yutani employee who suffers an accident and has her mind transferred into the body of a xenomorph Queen. It’s moving and well written, and also brings in lore from the Predator franchise.
Waiting for the Conquered by rmc28 on AO3 – A oneshot retelling the movie Aliens from the perspective of the Archeron xenomorph Queen. The author does a great job putting you in the perspective of an alien mind and even making you sympathize with her at the end.

Snowflake Challenge #13: A Community Space you Like
Jan. 28th, 2026 02:05 pmMy automatic answer to this is Tumblr. I have been on there since 2012! Sure, I’ve been on different accounts over the years, but it’s been my fandom home since I was 17. It has issues that I’m sure many are familiar with at this point: batshit discourse, the Great De-Porning of 2018, questionable moderation decisions, and more.
But despite this, it’s still my home in regard to fandom. I’ve met all of my current online friends through Tumblr, even if they aren’t super active on there anymore.
I like how I can have a blog that’s dedicated to everything I like, from the most esoteric thing no one cares about to more mainstream media. I enjoy the pretty gifs and art people make, and I like putting them on my blog.
It’s nowhere near as big as it was during its Golden Age, but I think it’s gone through a bit of a Renaissance lately. If you block and filter extremely liberally, you’re generally gonna have a chill time and you can find your people eventually.
Promote your canon!
Jan. 29th, 2026 08:04 amIf you nominated a rare/small canon you're interested in requesting and/or offering, please feel free to create a fandom promo post in the comments below to see if the canon's themes or story is something that may interest others.
Please include the canon and its medium in the subject line, i.e. "Rivers of London - Ben Aaronovich (Books)", "The Thin Man (Movie)", etc., for ease of organisation.
Please try to avoid linking images. Feel free to chat about the canons if something catches your eye and you'd like to know more! (Please try to stay anonymous regarding what you may be trying to match to in our sign-ups.)
Here are some things you can cover in your post, but you're more than welcome to pick and choose and add additional information:
- Title: Please put the canon title in the post as well.
Media: Is it a book, game, comic, movie, television series, recursive work, etc.?
Approximate length: Reading Length is a great resource for books and How Long to Beat is a great resource for video games.
Where is it found?: Please only provide links to legal sources. Is it free or must it be purchased?
Elevator pitch of what it's about: If you have to describe it in the time it takes to travel in an elevator, how would you?
Content warnings: You won't be able to warn for everything that may trigger someone, so please consider what the main trigger warnings would be and know that you won't be able to warn for everything.
What do you love about it?:
What kind of themes would you request for it?: Are you looking for a murder mystery? Heist? Medical drama investigation? Spies? This question does not mean you will request it; it's meant to help others know how it fits in the theme and what kind of creative works it may inspire.
