5 Little Snowmen Carpet Time Song Counting | Math Center | Preschool | Winter

This fun snowmen song (rhyme, poem) for carpet time is one of my students’ favorites! It works great for a winter, Christmas, or snow thematic unit. This is a great activity for teaching students to take away and to recognize quantities to 5 or 10. It also helps build finger strength (as they are holding up different numbers of fingers) and helps students recognize 2D shapes. Students can work along on their own 5 or 10 frames. A black and white version is included so that students can create their own 5 snowman to sing about as a math center activity or a extension activity to take home! I also like to print an extra set of snowmen and attach magnets to them for students to sing the 5 snowmen song in their math center. To Prep: Print, cut, and laminate snowmen and instructions. I print all the snowmen so that I can change out the shapes or use more than 5 for a challenge. You can also print the sentence strips so that students can read the rhyme with you as you change the number of snowmen each round. To Play: (To the tune of Down by the Station) 5 little snowmen happy happy snowmen Each with a scarf and a tall black hat. The sun started shining very very brightly 1 little snowman melted down flat! Call on a student to remove a snowman of their choice or tell them what shape to choose.
