Elementary christmas art lessons

I love the Holiday season and love coming up with new Christmas Art Ideas! So I created some fun holiday inspired art lessons that build on skills, have educational content, and are inspired by well-known artists. There are ideas for everyone, from simple crayon resist ornaments for Kindergarten all the way to 2 point perspective gingerbread houses for 8th grade and higher.

I showed my 4th graders how to draw the simple shapes that make up the nutcrackers. Then I asked them to decorate the nutcrackers they drew by adding their own details. We talked about the element of design, value and how it makes things in art work look "real". I showed them techniques that they could use with oil pastels to create value in their art work.
