Removed Comment "I don't want anyone to take offense at this" is probably the worst way to start a thought, but I'll try anyway. My take on the negative aggression is wanting to point out that it is has been shown that plastic waste contributes to hormonal changes which in turn contributes to sexual orientation (this is through general reading with no diving deeper). How to frame this affect is a complicated issue. "Lets reduce plastic pollution to fix this issue" is inherently rude and insensitive as it implies there is something broken. How do we counter what I consider another example of mother nature protecting the planet from the abuses of our existence, while at the same time recognizing that just normal genetic variation provides the same, although reduced(?), occurrences of this trait. I'm a big proponent of genetic alteration to improve the human condition, but what a minefield you would encounter when genetic traits were discovered that lead to "being gay". I don't personally consider there is something to fix but the ramifications are beyond mind blowing. For reference I'm for working on genes to fix many things, lack of compassion being among them. Does anyone have any thoughts on this complicated issue? by StoneyPicton@lemmy.ca

Removed Comment I can try to hear where she's coming from: people should maybe stop putting their identity politics onto their kids, and let their kids decide who they are on their own. On the other hand, her (lack of) support for trans adults doesn't seem to come from a position of understanding, and mostly comes from a fear that women who are already victims in society will be further victimised by the inclusion of trans women, based on a warped premise that all men (former, current) are not to be trusted. I want to say her heart is in the right place (protect her definition of women), but she digs her own grave with her heavy handedness in all of it by tetris11@lemmy.ml

I have never claimed otherwise to anything you just said, I'm pointing out that there are blurry lines, grey areas where it is unclear how much bone density or muscle mass loss is considered as fair. We have very little ways of verifying what dosage of hormones people recieve, and people have no right to demand that information, making this whole thing into a mess. And the last thing we want is excluding people for 'not being trans enough'. I hate how discrimination is even a factor, it shouldn't be, and I am aware this is fighting a greater issue, maybe its better to be defacto all inclusive until proven to be a problem. by kernelle@lemmy.world

Enough of strawmanning, I am all for allowing trans people joining regular competition, I am also thinking about creating a fair environment for the other competitors. And just being trans isn't a fair fight, someone being trans having used HRT could definitely be a fair fight, but my point is theres a gray zone noone likes to talk about. Beware also: many lemmy.ml users are actually hexbear users that are exploiting the lack of moderation on lemmy.ml. For a long time now, hexbear users have been brigading communities all over Lemmy, spamming pro-russia and pro-china propaganda all over them. It looks like that's what they're doing here too. That's why other instances defederated from them. Hexbear users regularly pose as communists, which I don't personally have any problems with, but way more than they love communism, they love authoritarian governments. And for a while they had been literally posting memes mocking democracy with links in the comments promoting authoritarianism (NOT communism). Hexbear users, aka [tankies](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tankie), for a while had also tried to claim that "tankies" is a generalization that applies to all leftists and that we should all be offended by it.
