"Vintage 40's \"Sister Sue\" Girl's Dress"

I believe this dress probably hails from the 1940's. It's label is one from "Fruit of the Loom" with a "Sister Sue" moniker below. Made of a sturdy cotton print of tiny polka dots in pale coral, lemon, and white on a pale blue- green ground, the colors are a unique combo. The upper front bodice is shaped like a heart and this is emphasized by pale lemon yellow piping and a frill of white Broderie Anglaise. The skirt is gathered and full and at front waist has the same piping as bodice. There is a patch pocket on right front of skirt. The outer edges and keyhole opening are piped and fastened in center of pocket. Sleeves are large and full, gathered both at crown and cuff. Cuff edge is pale yellow piping. The collar is round and made from a finely ribbed white cotton. Closure consists of three white vintage buttons in back bodice. Dress is in excellent condition; I am not sure if the colors have faded slightly or they were always in this pale palette. In either case, they are refreshingly different. The major flaw looks to be that the sash was removed. It was well done and I almost missed it. In order to keep the price down, I have not fabricated a sash for this dress. In any case, you would want a wide sash for this dress and there is not enough fabric in hem to accomplish that. A very charming dress, nevertheless!
