Is your sink actually sitting on it? No…it’s a strip that is added under the sink and attached to the cabinet.
It helps catch water and run off from an apron front sink so water doesn’t drip down your cabinets and onto the floor. 
It also balances out the heavy look of an apron sink or farmhouse sink and gives it a nice finished look. 
We had it installed with our countertop but you can create one out of wood as well.
