Dear Festividder 2025
Sep. 22nd, 2025 07:50 pmHello! I am so excited that you are going to be making me a gift or a treat for festivids! I so look forward to whatever wonderful vid I receive from you :)
Before I get into some specific fandom stuff, here's some general info about my preferences. Music-wise, I'm a big fan of thoughtful lyrical matches with the visual source, and I'm open to pretty much any genre. Even if it isn't something I'd listen too much myself, if a song is a good match for a source that's the most important thing. I would say there isn't anything content-wise in any of the sources I've requested that need to be avoided, and I don't have any visual triggers to avoid. My one big dislike that's worth mentioning is diegetic sound, but if it's done well I am definitely convincible. My main thing is I really prefer not to have dialogue overlapping with lyrics, but some well-deployed dialogue during instrumental moments or a sound here and there isn't an issue. Anyway, on to my fandom requests!
The Birdcage (1996)
This is such a go-to comfort movie for me. Nathan Lane and Robin Williams are perfect in it, everything Hank Azaria does in this is the funniest thing anyone's ever done, Gene Hackman and Dianne Wiest absolutely crack me up with their fussiness and especially the stupid purple mountains majesty story. I would love a vid focusing on Armand and/or Albert, an Agador being hilarious vid, or just a general ensemble/shenanigans vid. Pretty much the only wrong direction you could go in would be a full on Val apologist fanvid, and I have no idea why anyone would want to make that.
Dolores Claiborne (1995)
I love this movie, I love the complicated mother-daughter dynamic, and I love Kathy Bates. Truly such a phenomenal performance from her. I'd be happy with anything you wanted to make for this movie. Also (and obviously this is in no way a requirement) I would be super open to a cross-over vid with Gerald's Game, as the two movies are based on books that were originally conceived of as one novel.
The Life of Chuck (2024)
I guess this is just the Festivids for me demonstrating my love of non-horror King adaptations (my love of his horror is well established). This movie is probably my favorite of the year so far, followed closely by Sinners. It really just got me right in my feels, the absolute perfect amount of sentimental for me. I love the format of the movie. I love how it simultaneously illustrates the enormity and the mundanity of what it means for an entire human consciousness to just blip out of existence, as we all do eventually. I just think it's gorgeous. And, of course, dancing is life.
For a Good Time, Call... (2013)
Alright, it's been a couple years since I fruitlessly requested this beloved movie of mine, so it's time for me to try one more time. This is a delightful romp of a gal pals movie and I love it so much! Unwilling roommates go through an enemies-to-
Hot Fuzz (2007)
Speaking of people with dramatically different personalities being forced into proximity by circumstances outside their control but ultimately growing to love each other in at the very least an extremely deep platonic way, but also probably a gay way, Hot Fuzz rules. This movie is a delight from start to finish, and I'd be so excited for any vid someone wanted to make for it. One of my favorite things about this movie, aside from the perfect dynamic duo at its core and the insanely tight script, is how the cinematography and editing contribute to the humor every second of the movie. That, I think, makes it a really optimal source for a really visually dynamic vid.
Point Break (1991)
This is one of my favorite action movies, but more to the point, it is extremely gay and I love it.
A Quiet Place (Franchise)
Definitely requesting this one primarily for AQPDO, but I do love the whole franchise and would be thrilled for a vid about any/all of the movies and characters. But my favs have gotta be Sam and Eric. I just love this sopping wet man popping up out of a flooded subway and immediately imprinting on a very tired woman and her cat. What a beautiful tender story they have.
Jesus Christ Superstar (Umbrella)
So this summer I got COVID the day before I was supposed to see Cynthia Erivo and Adam Lambert and Phillipa Soo and love of my life Raul Esparza in JCS at the Hollywood Bowl, so I reacted in a super normal and healthy way to this overwhelming disappointment: I lay in bed and watched 16 different productions of the show, including most of the Hollywood Bowl one via assorted YouTube videos, in under 2 days. So I guess you could say I'm on a bit of a JCS kick right now. Anyway, I love this show and I love many of the different versions I watched/re-watched. I'd say my interests in this show for a vid would pretty much be a Judas or Jesus character study, or a vid about their relationship (shippy or not). I'd love at least 2 or 3 different versions of the musical in the vid, but am open to as many as you can get your hands on, provided you can find decent quality video. My only strong preference in terms of versions to include would be the 2012 Tim Minchin version, but I also love the 2012 Broadway run (if there's ok footage), and I enjoy the 2000 filmed version. The Swedish production is a must-include if you're taking this in any sort of gay direction. The movie is my favorite version, but it's totally up to you whether you want to include a film among a bunch of staged versions or not. Anyway, for more of my thoughts on some of the productions I watched, here's the super normal list I made. Also here's a YouTube playlist with a bunch of versions I watched, some full and some clips.
Mad Men
Honestly, I feel like it would be faster to list characters I wouldn't want a vid about in Mad Men than vice versa: Creepy Glen, Connie, and the Waitress. But seriously, I love everyone in this show. Even Pete, who is the scum of the earth. Peggy and Joan are my all-time favs, but really anyone in the main or recurring cast is someone I would love to see a vid about. One thing I guess I'd be particularly excited for would be a vid about Don and Peggy's relationship (not a shippy one though), but really any character study, dynamic, or theme you want to explore would be awesome.
Billy Elliot (2000)
Just another beloved and nostalgic movie for me. Haven't seen it in a minute but I've been meaning to rewatch it and I watched a clip of it in a class the other day and was like "don't cry don't cry don't cry don't cry" the whole time. I love Billy, I love his dancing, I love all the family drama, I love his friendship with Michael. It's all great.
