Patrick’s First Day of Kindergarten

08.19.11 2On Friday we had Patrick’s first day of Kindergarten!  We all walked up to school together (I’m not sure why he’s posing this way, but he thinks it looks cool!)  When we got to school (which is only 2 blocks away), Patrick waited outside with the rest of his class before following everyone inside.  He didn’t fuss and seemed quietly excited about going to Kindergarten.

Afterwards, his teacher said he had a great day and did very well.  He told me he had enjoyed himself and played with some legos.   The only time I got emotional was when we all went to meet him after Kindergarten, and he bypassed Laura, Owen and Brad, and hurled himself into my arms with a huge grin.  I picked him up for a big hug, and that’s when it hit me that he’s getting so big and growing up so fast!

OUR SCHOOL SCHEDULE:  Kindergarten where we live is only 2.5hours long.  Patrick got the afternoon session, so he’s attending from 12-2.30pm every day.  Laura will be starting Pre-School in September for 4 days (Mon-Thurs), I managed to get her in an afternoon session as well so she’s going from 12.15-2.45pm.  We decided to keep Owen in a Parent’s Day Out program this year; he’s going on Mondays from 9am-1pm every week.  I’m going to be a bit busy driving around to various schools dropping off and picking up, but I’m sure after a few weeks we’ll get into the routine of everything!

Minnesota Vacation

Last week we went up to Minnesota with Brad’s family for our vacation.  It’s probably a 10 hour drive if you don’t have kids; it took us over 11 hours because we stopped for food a couple of times and our little kids for some reason can’t synchronise their bladders!

We moved all the car seats into the second row of the van to give us more packing room in the back, so the view behind us looked like this…

There was a bit of fighting and grabbing, but overall it worked out nicely because it was so much easier to pass things to everyone.

The vacation house was very nice – right on the lake and lots of room for the kids to run around.  The deck outside was great for jumping off and the kids all loved sitting in the bubbles of the hot-tub.  Everyone had such a good time.  Lots of fishing, playing outside in the water, and relaxing.  We all can’t wait for next year!

[The kids loved fishing!  They went out on the boat fishing a few times, but still managed to get a lot of bites off the end of the dock!  Thanks to grandma at this point for helping out because I refused to touch any worms or any fish so I was pretty useless!]

Bass Pro Shop

In preparation for our trip to Minnesota, we went to a Bass Pro Shop to get some fishing and lake-related supplies.  A Bass Pro Shop is basically a big shop where you can buy all sorts of outdoors items for fishing, hunting, boating and things like that.  They even have a big tank with fish.  Of course, the kids love going there!  We got each of them a fishing net, some fishing lures, Patrick got a life jacket (we already had ones for Laura and Owen) and we got some inflatables for the lake.

In the first photo, you can see the kids in each of their own 4x4 ATV…
