At the weekend Brad took off the training wheels on Laura and Patrick’s bikes. Patrick never likes new things, so we knew he would struggle a little bit to get used to the idea of balancing on his bike. Laura and Patrick have both been riding on their razor scooters for a while, which I think has helped their balance. Laura goes a lot faster than Patrick which scares me a bit. So you can imagine that her on a bike scares me even more. (Brad’s mom pointed out that I’m going to be a wreck in a few years when these kids get in to drive a car).
Anyway, Brad lowered their seats, and got them used to the idea of using their feet to propel themselves and keep their balance. Then he told them to pick up their feet and coast, and after they got the hang of that he had them start to pedal. There were a few little spills, but no major injuries. Laura got the hang of things very quickly, but Patrick wasn’t too far behind her.

On Sunday Grandma took Laura out to get her a bigger bike for her birthday present, and now there really is no stopping her. She usually rides along with a massive smile on her face.

Owen wasn’t interested in having his training wheels taken off, but he’s still pretty fast on his little bike!

So there you go, another milestone passed without a backwards glance.
