The Baby now loves to ‘hide’ everything in the trash can…

Laura played baseball all summer and got fairly good – by the end of the season she was hitting the ball and running when she was supposed to run, and in the right direction!

The baby has inherited the male chromosome that means he instinctively knows to push cars around on a track.

He’s also learned how to climb up on sofas and loves nothing better than running all over them (and whoever is sitting down on the sofa.)

And Yes!  We get Peppa Pig in America!

Field Museum

We went to the museum with Aunty Kristal.  We saw a 3D movie about Sharks! and an exhibit on glowing insects.  Finn was really good the whole time; we let him out of the stroller in the Dinosaur room and he went crazy – running around yelling and whooping and having a really fun time.

Patrick–More Visits from the Tooth Fairy

2013-07-01 20.19.01

Patrick has lost all his top front teeth along with a couple at the bottom.  The Tooth Fairy comes and leaves him a dollar each time, along with a sprinkling of pixie dust (which isn’t enough to make the kids fly and believe me they have tried!)2013-07-01 20.21.13

Laura’s 6th Birthday

For Laura’s birthday we had a little party with Grandma and Grandpa and Aunty Kristal, with a lovely ice cream cake -

For her birthday, Laura requested make-up and jewelry.  I swear, she’s 6 going on 16.  I got her the make-up, and she loves to liberally apply it multiple times every day.  She’s a big fan of bright blue eye-shadow and pink blusher all over her cheeks.  Grandma and Kristal got her lots of jewelry, and she’s been loving wearing loads of that every day as well!

The next day we had a party at the local pool and invited all her girl-friends (she has quite a lot!)  She had a great time in her dangly earrings, being the center of attention!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DIVA GIRL!

Meeting Monster Truck Drivers & Trucks

Brad took the older kids to a local store that had a couple of the famous monster trucks and drivers.  The kids got to meet some of their celebrities and get their autographs (and a signed Grave Digger T-Shirt for me!)

Riding without training wheels (stabilizers)

At the weekend Brad took off the training wheels on Laura and Patrick’s bikes.  Patrick never likes new things, so we knew he would struggle a little bit to get used to the idea of balancing on his bike.  Laura and Patrick have both been riding on their razor scooters for a while, which I think has helped their balance.  Laura goes a lot faster than Patrick which scares me a bit.  So you can imagine that her on a bike scares me even more.  (Brad’s mom pointed out that I’m going to be a wreck in a few years when these kids get in to drive a car).

Anyway, Brad lowered their seats, and got them used to the idea of using their feet to propel themselves and keep their balance.  Then he told them to pick up their feet and coast, and after they got the hang of that he had them start to pedal.  There were a few little spills, but no major injuries.   Laura got the hang of things very quickly, but Patrick wasn’t too far behind her.

On Sunday Grandma took Laura out to get her a bigger bike for her birthday present, and now there really is no stopping her.  She usually rides along with a massive smile on her face.

Owen wasn’t interested in having his training wheels taken off, but he’s still pretty fast on his little bike!

So there you go, another milestone passed without a backwards glance.

Whilst we were unpacking from vacation, the kids entertained themselves by building a cage for a jaguar.  This involved taking every pillow and comforter they could find and blocking up the area under Patrick’s bunk.  Unfortunately the jaguar kept escaping from the side of the cage and chasing everyone  (Laura is the jaguar).

Me telling Owen:  “No running in the house!

Owen:  “I’m not running”

Me:  I can see you!”

Owen:  ~sighing~ “Mommy, I am NOT running.  I am GALLOPING!”

Patrick was in trouble for something -

Brad: “Did you just roll your eyes at me?”

Patrick:  “No”

Brad:  “I saw you!”

Patrick:  “Look Dad, I am just a kid, and I haven’t been to college yet.  And anyways, I can’t see my own eyes.”
