It is a very stressful time of the year for me at the moment, UCAS, digital portfolios, portfolio mounting and interviews seem to be taking up a huge chunk of my time and are obviously rather important. This week I have been busy running around trying to get all my work photographed and ready to be sent off to various universities. I hear lot of questions about how to teach Elements of Art. Although it does seems like you can incorporate the Elements of Art into almost any lesson, it is nice to lay a foundation and teach the importance of the Elements of Art. When doing this I want my students to be able to recall all of the Elements of Art and understand why they are the building blocks to creating all art, so I came up with a few different ways to teach Elements of Art as a lesson or unit.

Foundation Art and Design students attended a Summer School and produced these large scale studies based upon natural forms. Wire sculptures were produced first which were then projected onto the studio walls to help develop the large composition. Working in teams, the students completed the artwork in two hours.

A journey that begins with first-hand observation and ends with complex, three-dimensional pieces, Halima’s AS and A2 Textile projects are superb exemplars for others: some of the best Textile sketchbooks that I have seen.
