Autumn Hike Destresses the Day
The Lake Whatcom Trail follows the beautiful northern edge of the lake where stormy clouds added to the drama on this day.
The Totem Pole aby Whatcom Falls Creek was carved by Jewel James and his Lummi Nation team. It's a healing totem that commemorates the pipeline explosion of 1999 that destroyed much of the creek's habitat and killed three Bellingham boys. It is a beautiful tribute to this tragedy.

Walking through the Whatcom Falls Park I came across these kayakers paddling in the creek and trying to clear the waterway. Thought it made a great autumn scene.
This memorial statue, aptly named 'Safe Return' stands in Bellingham's Zuanich Park and overlooks the fishing harbor area. The names of local fisherman who have lost their lives fishing are inscribed on its pedastal.
One of Bellingham's iconic structures is the steeple of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. The steeple was once a landmark for the ships coming into the bay. The church was built in 1884 in what is now Bellingham's historic Eldridge district where many older homes overlooking the harbor were also built.
The moss-covered Chuckanut sandstone bridge in Whatcom Falls Park was a WPA project.

Local Drive-Ins Delights Locals
Boomer's was the subject of a recent blog post. It's a local food landmark. I've staged senior photo sessions under its colorful canopies. I parked my '54 Plymouth behind Zach, shown here on his scooter, to give Boomer's even more vintage flavor during his senior portrait session.
