Transylvania

We'll go to Transylvania for a week long mission trip. Pray for our team of 2 students and 5 staff.  We'll serve with the Transylvanian CCC group. We'll hand out Student Survival Kits, call back and meet with open students. One of our colleges will give a talk on the weekly meeting and in some high schools. Pray for the local and traveller team: growing together in Christ, health, unity, open students, blessed meetings, decisions to Christ. Pray for Zach's talks! Pray for long term relationships. Thanks! :)

"The harvest is plentiful"

We just ended a wonderful week with a group of Americans! We served together on the Campuses, High Schools, dorms, countryside. We distributed about an additional 700 Freshmen Survival Kits (FSK) this week just in our target area of 3 campuses. We had two great dorm evens, we talked about "How to prepare for a job interview" and "Freakonomics - the funny side of economics". There were about 30 new students at every dorm event, mostly open to hear more about Christ. Kalman and Lorraine (who gave one of the talks) had a deep and long conversation with Blanka and Edina. They had questions like: "Do you ever doubt God?" They met again, the girls still had many deep questions, but seemed closer to the decision. We'll meet them again this week on Wednesday, please pray for them. We had a great weekly meeting with the topic: sex and intimacy, and there were about 170 students. There was a student, Orsi. She is from Transylvania, came to Budapest with a scholarship for a semester. She got a FSK just that same morning and decided to come. She seemed to be alone in the city, was open to hear more about christianity and it turned out she lives in the same dorm as Zsofi (one of Julcsi's disciples). Our friend and supporter, Henry Rogers was a part of the american group. He was here last year and initiated to a student (Andi) and shared the Gospel with her. Later Andi became a believer. Henry is her "spiritual Dad". Henry had the chance to meet Andi's family this weekend. I'm sure God has a wonderful plan with this family! We had other great conversations too, and this week was a great impact on our relationship with Christ. And it's true: "the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few"

Prayer requests for September

- Freshman Survival Kit distributions - this week we give a folder to several thousand freshman. The folder includes a survey with the question: "If you could know God personally, would you be intrested?". The students return the surveys with their email address and cell number. PRAY for the students who are interested in knowing God and talking with us about a personal relationship with Him! A video from last year!

- Contrast Exhibition: starts today in a city and two weeks from now in another city. One of them is Julcsi's hometown. The idea is from a pastor, a former YTL volunteer, who asked us to give talks parallel with the exhibition about sex, AIDS and the Gospel. Every high school student has to take part in this exhibit and our presentations as well. The exhibition is open to everybody. PRAY for these cities, that through this event, many people would understand the Gospel and come to Christ. Pray also for the local churches to be able to follow-up new believers.

- Our priority in our personal life and ministry: to go deeper in the Word and in prayer, desiring holiness. To live a life which that would touch others. We know, even though we grow in numbers and in size, if our ministry doesn't get deeper, our groth doesn't matter. PRAY for us and our students to be motivated to be holy!

Thanks for your prayers!

Summer of 2010

This summer has been amazing! We have worked hard and played hard. God has shown us so much and allowed us to have so much fun at the same time! It has been a busy summer of moving from one thing to the next. Being in the US was super fun, and then we went on to SpeakOut which was a blast. After that we got to enjoy a sweet time of vacation in the High Tatras of Slovakia and then we headed to our CCC Staff Conference. We just returned and it was a great time of teaching and focusing on the fall/future of our ministry. We studied the book of Haggai. Julia and I both learned a lot, were challenged and encouraged. God also led our leaders to rearrange some of the leadership responsibilities and teams to better accommodate the growth and future needs of the ministry and for the sake of reaching our ministry goals in Hungary. These changes are very encouraging...
It means our Budapest Campus Team will now work much more with the Budapest High school Team and will together be called Budapest Metro Team. It al
so means Kalman will be leading the ELTE and Károli Universities' target area team. He is also going to be in the Budapest Metro Team Leadership. So please pray for him, for wisdom in walking with God, leading and planning his time even better.

But hey, let us tell you a little more about SpeakOut!

SpeakOut is a multi-layered summer project that includes lots of evangelism and discipleship on different levels.

Layer #1: We run an English camp for Hungarian students from all over the country, most that attend are non-believers. American students come over and are the tutor group leaders. They build relationships all week and share their faith with these campers daily. These American students are trained and discipled all summer long as they pour out to others.

Layer #2: We have Christian Hungarian students who are involved in our movement who come and serve for the month. They serve along side the Americans and also spend most of their day at the streets and beaches of Lake Balaton sharing Christ. These students are also in discipleship groups and are trained and discipled all summer long. From this group of Hungarian students there are also teams that get sent out mission trips from SpeakOut. This year 3 teams were sent to Romania, Albania, and the city of Siofok here in Hungary.

Julia and me led the team to Csikszereda, Romania again. It was absolutely awesome! In fact it was so encouraging it deserves its own post. Do check out the video we posted just below this post... and pictures by clicking here or on the image below.

This Summer, the total number...
... of workers: 127 (Americans: 47 - Hungarians: 80)
... approached with the Gospel: 2597
... heard the Gospel: 1599
... started a relationship with Christ: 94!

Thank you for all of your prayers and support. We could not be a part of this ministry
movement without you! God is blessing the ministry here in Hungary. Thank you for caring for the lost of this world. We are grateful that God has called us into this ministry and we are so very thankful that each of you support the work here in Hungary!

Evangelistic Training & Practice

We had a great evangelistic training last week. Sanyi, my disciple did a training on how to share your faith using the 4 LAWS diagram. It was great. There were 20 students, some of them were from other Christian groups/Churches. We went out to share our faith this week. Some of them shared the Gospel for the first time in their lives and seeing that God truly uses the one who surrenders himself to Him, really got them excited to share their faith regularly.

Csillebérc Spring Student Retreat 2010 - REPORT

The weekend at Csillebérc was wonderful this year! We had a great time. Our former National Director, Dave Robinson's 3 talks were deep and truly inspiring. We had seminars, games lasting late in the night, sport, great fellowship! We had 18 students joining us from Transylvania, as a fruit of our partnership ministry there!
Not much sleep, much fun, and best of it all - some highlights:
- one girls made her decision there to trust Christ as her Savior and Lord!
- one of the Transylvanian students, Tihamér, who trusted Christ with Kalman 3 weeks before, seeing Dave teach from the Bible said: "I want to read the Bible and know it like Dave does."

Csillebérc Spring Student Retreat 2010

Today we are moving up to Csillebérc again! Highschool and University students as well as many FéK staff will spend the weekend there on our annual Spring retreat. Our keynote speaker is Dave Robinson, pastor, former director of CCC, Hungary. The topic: Exalting the Gospel! We have about 130 students registered (that is about 30-40 more than last fall). A student group of 18 are also coming from Transylvania, Romania! We believe many lives will change, faiths will be encouraged this weekend. Please pray with us for this weekend!

1. There will be many students still searching. Pray that they will understand the message of the Gospel and come to saving faith in Christ!
2. Pray for our FéK students to be encouraged to continue to boldly live and share the Gospel message!

Thank you!

Fruits and thorns

Lilla, Hanna, Zsofi and Emese began to understand better what spiritual multiplication means and they would like to take part more actively in it. Lilla leads two new believer girls and Hanna. Hanna started to lead two girls and four of her classmates come to our weekly meetings regularly. They are close to making a decision, please pray for them (Dora, Hajni, Luca, Eszter). Zsofi and Emese lead a religious broadcast in a local online radio station. Zsofi leads one girl, and Emese's friends and classmates come to our student outreaches. Both of them stepped out in faith and came to Transylvania, lead discussions among Transylvanian girls.

We have three new believer girls: Erika (maybe you remember her from last year) has a believer boyfriend and he has a good influence on her relationship with God. She'll go to Japan for three months via a modeling agency for casting. Please pray for her to rely on God in the new environment. Csilla has a non-believer boyfriend. She knows she should break up with him but she loves him very much. Pray for her to make a good decision. Andi gave up smoking but she has a spiritual battle because of it. She is writing her thesis, but she is making slow progress. Pray for her to wear and use the "spiritual armor" of God.

Prayer movement

It's very encouraging for us to see God at work through our prayer ministry. We organized a prayer night in the beginning of February. We praised God, confessed our sins, prayed for our ministry, for the World, Europe, Hungary. We were taught about fasting by Kalman, and a few students were lead to begin fasting.
Two of my disciples (Zsofi and Emese) lead a religious radio broadcast and two other FEK girls were interviewed about fasting on the show. God lead Julcsi to encourage other believers in praying regularly for a spiritual change among the Hungarian nation. Last Saturday we began a month long prayer chain for this purpose. We have an online prayer calendar with Bible verses and questions to provoke thought and lead to confession. Also prayer requests for Hungary. Pray that many would be renewed during this prayer month.

Students intitiating evangelism

Last Tuesday some of our students organized an outreach in one of largest dorms of Bp. They came up with the idea, they did the promotion, they did the whole program. Awesome! Julcsi was there to be told what to do by our students! SHE LOVED IT!!!

Guys' Bible Study

A week ago we started a Bible study for all the guys in our movement. Why is that important?

We had small groups before, many of them. But:
- they were all lead by a Crusade staff
- new students had a hard time getting involved that way
- growth was slow in numbers and spiritual depth, and spiritual multiplication was not happening

So, we thought we would try a new form: gather all the guys at the same time, and have fellowship for one hour, and than divide into small groups LED BY OUR STUDENT LEADERS for another hour! And students responded well! There is something in joining a larger group, and taking leadership when others step out in faith together with you! My disciple Sanyi is leading one of the groups, a very good challenge for him!

Last night we had our second gathering, and it was just great to see our student leaders leading small groups, and ministering to others. We really hope that this strategic step will lead to more spiritual leadership among our guys, more students getting involved in discipleship, and more growth in our movement.

To me this is a key area to help our ministry grow to be a student led movement, a mature spiritual movement among the students in Budapest!

Wednesday nights

Our weekly meeting is a great gathering place for our student leaders, for students searching for God, and for students who just think this is a great place to hang out. More and more of these students choose our weekly meeting as their Wednesday night program. Some numbers:

2006: 15 students average
2007: 30 students average
2008: 45 students average
2009-2010: 70-80 students average

It is certainly FUN to see this growth! It is great momentum for our movement! And we always talk about GOD, who Jesus was, and what the Bible has to say about life. God is drawing students closer to Him through relationships!

Fruits of FéK in Transylvania

Last week we lead a team of 8 back to Cluj, Romania. Three staff and five students set out from Budapest, Hungary, For four of our students, this was the first time leaving our borders on a mission trip. Our goal was to help the campus ministry in Cluj and that our students would get a wider perspective and experience of missions as well.

Our journey was paved with God's blessings. Our students took the initiative and boldly stepped out of their confort zones. As a result of it we had about 50 one-on-one evangelistic conversations with hungarian university students. many came closer to God, two trusted Christ: Juli prayed with one of Julcsi's disciples, Zsofi; Tihamér prayed with Kalman.

About 170 new students came to our outreach on Tuesday night and we were able to contact most of them on the phone as well afterwards. Our relationship with the believers and Campus students in Cluj grew as well this week. It is a special joy for us to have witnessed how much the Kingdom grows through FEK: We had three evangelistic and follow-up trainings, three follow-up meetings, one Bible study for guys, and even an outreach among Romanian students. Another joy was to see students from local churches get excited and boldly step out in reaching other students.

God does have a plan with Transylvania!

Thank you for praying for the ministry there.

Week of Evangelism with students from Michigan

On March 1-6 a team from Michigan visited Hungary again to serve with us. Even in the begginning of the trip there was spiritual warfare, because a snowstorm split the team up in two and one half arrive 1 day the other 2 days late. Inspite of these events God truly blessed our week: english classes, dorm outreaches, weekly meeting, evangelistic conversations filled up the week and were going well. The American team attracted many students and helped them come closer to God. By the end of the week several of them were thinking about joining us for a STINT year.

Kalman's team held Short Film outreaches in 2 dorms. The evening's program resulted in deep conversations and Kalman had the chance to speak to the students about the message and reality of God through the short film titled Butterfly Circus. Julcsi's team held this event in another dorm as well.

Pray for the 55 students attended these events, several of them came to our weekly meetings!

Girls

I'm very thankful for my girls I lead. I see in all of them the desire for God and that they would like to give Him their all. Lilla and Zsofi leads others as well. Csilla, Andi, Erika and Zsuzsa are new believers, have lots of questions. Pray for them to grow in Christ in the face of fights. We organize a girl-guy day on the 6th of February with talks and discussions about love, roles and relationships. This area is a major battlefield for most of the girls. Pray that they come and they would be impressed by this day!
Julcsi

Prayer...

New semester starts... can't wait what God will do. We're continuing in committed prayer. Both staffs and students experienced during the last semester how regular prayer transforms us and our environment. We have two prayer web pages: one of them is for personal and ministry prayer requests, the other is a prayer calendar where we can sign up for a day when we pray for the other page's requests. During exam time we write our exam dates to pray for each other's exams. In the next semester we'll organize a prayer night and will learn about fasting, from the end of March we'll have a month long prayer chain for a spiritual revival in Hungary. We'll also invite other believers, Churches.

Bible Course (IBS) and Women's Conference in January

Since we have a slower paced month in January most of our conferences are scheduled for this month. Most of us staff did two courses (Romans and John) in two weeks. A great overview, even though two weeks is way too short to walk through these books! I certainly have a deeper understanding and could dive even deeper in them.

Yesterday Julcsi left for a women's conference for all the staff women in our ministry. They will spend 4 days getting refreshed in the Word, having fellowship with God and each other. I am praying this would be an inspiring time for Julcsi and for the other ladies. I am at home and going to spend some time with my disciples as well as with planning for the coming months.

Statistical overview

Dear Friend,
As you might suspect, every year we take it seriously to measure and evaluate the impact of our ministry in Hungary. Last year before Christmas we spent a half day with just this. I have summarized the results and put them here for you to see. Praise God with us as you look at these numbers. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to email me and ask me.
Blessings,
Kalman
