Blue surprise, oil on canvas panel, 8 x 8 in. When I started this painting I meant to use ultramarine blue. I squeezed out the paint from my big blue tube, alongside burnt sienna and cad yellow. But a while into the painting, I started thinking "this ultramarine blue is so strange, it doesn't lean towards violet at all!"
