Hello Maryana, I read the update published at the Wikimedia-l mailing list and I think it is great that you regularly publish such updates. I am interested in the financial situation of the Wikimedia Foundation and in ways to have an sustainable way of operating the Wikimedia Foundation. From my point of view the Wikimedia Foundation should decrease the number of employees in the US through not hiring new ones there except for legally required positions like Accounting. I think there are other countries also in Europe with much lower salaries and it is possible to find good staff. At least from my point of view it is possible to find people also for much lower salaries as in Big Tech Companies. I think the goal should be to pay the median income of the region where a person lives if it is a high devoloped country and more if it is a country with low median income. Where is it possible to discuss the structure of the Wikimedia Foundation further. I hope that there will be some discussions about how to make the Wikimedia Foundations financial situation more sustainable without dependen in income from business activities. :Thanks @[[User:Hogü-456|Hogü-456]] for your question - we shared a [[wmfblog:2023/02/17/wikimedia-foundation-remote-first-and-global-community-of-staff/|Diff post]]<nowiki> about this topic earlier this year. In short, when hiring for a role, the Foundation looks for the best person for the job and doesn't prioritize based on geography as long as the application is within the group of roughly 50 countries where we are able to hire and support staff. As a result, the majority of our staff are based outside of San Francisco and roughly half live outside of the United States. |

Looking for someone at the Foundation
Hi Maryana, we met back in June at the Portland Social Meetup. I mentioned I have a presentation about Wikipedia this September. There was a woman with you with the Communications department who offered to help me with it, but I forgot her name. Could you help me with that? Much thanks. -- Llywrch (talk) 03:52, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- (obviously not Maryana :D) Greetings, Llywrch! I hope I can be of assistance even though I wasn't at that meetup. I think you may be talking about Anusha, our Chief Communications Officer. In any case, please feel free to connect with my team and/or me and we'll be glad to take a look at who and how can best assist you with your presentation. Good luck with that in advance! --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 08:50, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @Llywrch, thanks for reaching out, I enjoyed the Portland meetup. Erica is correct, it was indeed Anusha. Let me know how the presentation goes. MIskander-WMF (talk) 10:07, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
