Ready for translation: VisualEditor News #9—2014
Hi! This is an invitation to join translators working on the November's issue of the VisualEditor monthly newsletter, which will be widely delivered later this week. The previous bulletin was published in 10 languages, but the translation was completed only for three of them. Will we do better this month? We'd like to reach many more communities in their own language this time, as we're announcing interesting developments like the new ability to add tables and their elements. Thanks a lot for your help! Elitre (WMF) 21:28, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
PS: Here are some instructions. Please go to the translation page: your language should be available from the drop-down menu on the right. Once you've selected it, you'll see the document in English side by side with any translation work already done in your language. You can add new translations or modify existing ones. If you need further help or would like to receive a talk page message to be notified of future translations, please contact me directly.

Hi! This is an invitation to join translators working on the December's issue of the VisualEditor monthly newsletter, which will be widely delivered later this week. The amazing translators' community has already found out about it prior to this announcement... But how is your language doing this time? Find out now and contribute! Thanks a lot for your help! Ready for translation: VisualEditor News #1—2015
Hi! Apologies if you're reading this message more than once. This is an invitation to join translators working on the February's issue of the VisualEditor multilingual newsletter. This time it features an important announcement about a series of meetings where VE tasks on Phabricator will be triaged live and publicly, starting next week. Since we want many people to be aware of this ASAP (especially volunteer developers!), we have a time constraint which means we'll deliver to the wikis on Thursday morning PST this week. Thanks a lot in advance, we know you'll do whatever it takes to keep your community up-to-date, and appreciate it a lot. m:User:Elitre (WMF), 22:08, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

Ready for translation: VisualEditor News #2—2015
Hi! This is an invitation to join translators working on the April's issue of the VisualEditor monthly newsletter, which will be widely delivered towards the end of next week. The previous bulletin was published in 26 languages—the translation was completed only for ten of them. Will we do better this month? We'd like to reach many more communities in their own language this time, as VE recently became the main editor at other 50+ Wikipedias, and we're announcing interesting developments (auto-fill features for citations, improved special character inserter, drag and drop for categories, invisible templates now marked by a puzzle piece icon, and more). Thanks a lot for your help! Elitre (WMF) 22:38, 4 April 2015 (UTC)
PS: Here are some instructions. Please go to the translation page: your language should be available from the drop-down menu on the right. Once you've selected it, you'll see the document in English side by side with any translation work already done in your language. You can add new translations or modify existing ones. Ready for translation: VisualEditor News #3—2015
Hi! This is an invitation to join translators working on the June's issue of the VisualEditor multilingual newsletter, which will be widely delivered at the end of this workweek. You may have noticed that the bulletin is now getting published once every two months more or less, but we're keeping the length manageable ;) Thanks a lot for your help! — Elitre (WMF) 17:41, 8 June 2015 (UTC)
PS: Here are some instructions. Please go to the translation page: your language should be available from the drop-down menu on the right. PPS: Also, watch out for announcements of the upcoming VE-translathon! Everybody getting this message will be particularly welcome to join that activity during Wikimania.
Early invitation: join VisualEditor's 2015 Translathon
Hello!
You are invited to join the 2nd edition of the VisualEditor Translathon! It is a translation rally, focused on interface messages and help pages related to VisualEditor.
In order to participate, you need to sign up on the Translathon page. The top 3 contributors will each win a Wikipedia t-shirt of their choice from the Wikipedia store.[1] Translations made between July 15th and July 19th (CDT time zone) qualify.[2]
If you are attending Wikimania Mexico this year, you are also welcome to join a related sprint during the Hackathon in Workplace 1 - Don Américo, Thursday 16 July at 4:00 p.m (CDT) at the conference venue, so you can meet other fellow translators and get support if you need some.
Interface messages have the priority. You will need to create an account at translatewiki.net in order to work on them, if you don't have one. It is recommended to create the account ASAP, so that it can be manually confirmed in time.
You can also help translate documentation pages about VisualEditor on mediawiki.org. You can use your Wikipedia account there. You will find instructions, links and other details on the Translathon page.
Thanks for your attention, and happy translating! Elitre (WMF) 02:59, 11 July 2015 (UTC)

Edit freeze at the start of WikiArabia
Hello Mervat,
I have just realized that WikiArabia is beginning on 24 March. This is the same day that the Wikimedia Technical Operations team is doing a major change to the servers and data centers. At some point on that day, it is likely that no one will be able to edit any wiki for about 15 to 30 minutes. (You will still be able to read pages.) They have not set the time of day yet.
Please tell the other people involved in WikiArabia about the situation. More information will be announced through Tech/News and by MassMessage to most Village pumps. Thank you, Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 01:16, 11 March 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for your participation in IdeaLab during the Inspire Campaign focused on improving content curation & review processes from February to March 2016. I'm interested in hearing your feedback about your participation during campaign, so if you're able, I invite you to complete this brief survey to describe how you contributed to the campaign and how you felt about participating.
Immediate results of the campaign can be found here. Please feel free to review them and let me know if you have any questions about the campaign or the survey. Thanks! I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 02:31, 26 May 2016 (UTC)
Thanks :)
Hi Mervat
Thanks so much for translating the Wiki Loves Earth Biosphere Reserves page into Arabic, please let me know when you are finished and I will add it. The competition finishes in one week, UNESCO can share the competition with the Arabic Biosphere Reserves once we have a working page.
Thanks again

You've got e-mail
Hi Mervat,
my name is Tomasz W. Kozlowski and I work with the Communications team at the Wikimedia Foundation. On 27 July, I sent you an e-mail regarding an interview you gave during the 2014 Wikimania in London. Can you confirm whether you received my e-mail successfully? I would like to do a follow-up to that interview and to ask you a few additional questions and clarify some of the things you said. Please let me know if you received my message; if not, I will send it again to you as soon as I can. Thank you, TKozlowski (WMF) (talk) 10:21, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

Invitation to RFC discussions about Arabic Wikipedia
There are the following RFC discussions about Arabic Wikipedia:
- Requests for comment/Investigation on Severe Nationalist and Pan-Arabist Edits on Arabic Wikipedia
- Requests for comment/Urgent review of Arabic Wikipedia state of affairs and administration
I read there are issues with it. I wonder whether you can be neutral toward the issues and all parties. Thanks. --George Ho (talk) 02:06, 26 June 2017 (UTC)

Translation request for New Readers Inspire Campaign-- and thanks!
Hi there! I'm contacting you because you've volunteered your time in the past to help translate Inspire Campaigns, or you've expressed an interest about helping to translate. We have a new campaign starting soon about new readers, as we try to encourage contributors to develop ideas on how to inform and invite people to use Wikipedia, especially in places where folks are not aware of it. There are two pages that will need translation:
There will be one additional page for translation that includes the questions we will be asking idea creators when they submit ideas for the campaign. I will notify you when that prose is ready.
Finally, thank you for your support; it's very important to me that these campaigns are accessible to folks across non-English Wikimedia projects, and I wouldn't be able to do that without your time and effort. In appreciation, I'd like to send you a postcard from Chicago where I reside. If you'd like to receive a postcard from me, please e-mail me with an address I contact you at to my work e-mail, cschillingwikimedia.org. I realize this is private information, so if you would prefer not to receive a postcard, that is understandable. Your work to make our projects accessible to everyone is no less appreciated. Please let me know if you have any questions about the prose regarding translation. Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) 20:33, 8 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi! This is an invitation to join translators working on the upcoming issue of the multilingual newsletter for the visual editor, which will be widely delivered when it's end of Friday in Central Europe. Hi Mervat! Thanks for organising CEE Spring on Arabic Wikipedia, that's really awesome! :-) It would be great if you could link the local page on CEE Spring here on Meta. If you would like to use statistics for the articles created on Arabic Wikipedia, you could also create the template we use to identifiy articles created during CEE Spring :-) Braveheart (talk) 13:14, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
- @Braveheart:, unfortunately I didn't do this time, but last year I repeated the idea. So I used the same idea and templates to create articles about Arab women in different languages. All the best.--Mervat (talk) 14:56, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
New community space for IdeaLab on Connect
Hi folks. If you're receiving this message, you've contributed to IdeaLab or an Inspire Campaign this year. Thanks for participating to develop ideas and review ones from other Wikimedians.
We are preparing some changes to IdeaLab and Inspire Campaigns. One of these changes is a new community space on Connect, where Wikimedians can find each other based on common activities or skills, and ask questions about the space. You are invited to join this community space for IdeaLab, especially if you would ever consider needing to find contributors with certain skills (like design or project management) or would like to offer your skills to others in our movement. To join, please proceed to Connect/IdeaLab and click on the "Add yourself" button on the right. Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) 19:53, 21 June 2018 (UTC)
Do you have an idea about how to measure the health of your community? Do you want to review ideas that others have submitted? Through August 10th, we are inviting ideas on how to capture the well-being of Wikimedia communities, in terms of matters like conflict resolution, effective content creation, and being able to contribute in a collaborative environment. Ideas can be focused on either quantitative techniques, such as gathering raw data, or qualitative techniques, like surveying contributors. If you are submitting an idea, guidance is available for how to move your idea into implementation, such as through a grant or starting a Phabricator task to engage with developers.
If you're interested, consider joining the Inspire Campaign. I JethroBT (WMF) 17:13, 13 July 2018 (UTC)

To help set priorities for the SWAN agenda, and also to help manage which global conversations should be a focus in general, we have set up and invite everyone to participate at this SWAN priorities form.
Possible topics include Community Board seats, Interim Global Council, Strategy prioritization follow-up events, Branding, Universal Code of Conduct, Grant strategy, and WMF CEO search. That is a lot of things, which are most important to cover in our upcoming SWAN meeting? |

Following up on the August, September, October, November, January, February, and March SWAN meetings and June's All-Affiliates Brand Meeting, as well as strategic and outreach topics of mutual concern to all affiliates including Interim Global Council + Movement Charter, WMF Resolution about the upcoming Board elections, Community Resilience and Sustainability role in Movement Strategy coordination, Grants Strategy Relaunch, and WMF Executive Transition
This month we are meeting on Sunday April 25, and you are all invited to RSVP here.
(Note that the UTC times of and are the same as before, although some places may have had daylight savings time changes since our last meeting).--Pharos (talk) 04:18, 23 April 2021 (UTC)
On "Message to Members"
You pinged me about a survey ("Before starting to draft the code of conduct, we ..."). I suppose the survey is closed ages ago, but the issue is still of interest. As the page in question was an archive, I answer here (I hope this is the right place to reach you).
The survey was conducted as a Google form and the privacy statement of the survey did not cover the terms of Google for this survey, but just linked to a Google page on terms. Clicking that link would probably tell Google I am a Wikipedia contributor – and the Google terms are unacceptable anyway.
You asked "does it help if I provide you with another format of the survey? Qualtrics?"
The issue is with submitting sensitive information to a third untrusted party. If you have an agreement that makes sure Qualtrics does not use my private information for its own purposes or distribute them further, and we can trust Qualtrics to have adequate control and handle the information confidentially, then I suppose Qualtrics would do, although I'd prefer WMF handling the survey themself.
I don't want to read the Qualtrics privacy statement. I want to have a statement from WMF where they take responsibility for my privacy, with as plain and simple language as possible – but the real commitment, not fluff.

- @LPfi: thank you for your reply. The survey will close at the end of the month. Your concern about the tools is understood, I will definitely communicate to WMF. Thank you. --Mervat (WMF) (talk) 11:40, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
