Requests for global rollback permissions
Global rollback for Esteban16
- Global user: Esteban16 (edits (alt) • CA • global groups • crossactivity • verify 2FA)
Hi, I have been participating actively for a few months in cross-wiki countervandalism on #cvn-sw and other channels, undoing and tagging spam and nonsense pages. I have also reported many spambots accounts and cross-wiki vandalism IPs to stewards. I think the global rollback flag would be useful for me as I am constatly dealing with x-wiki vandalism. Global rollback for Fernando2812l
- Global user: Fernando2812l (edits (alt) • CA • global groups • crossactivity • verify 2FA)
Hi, I'm Fernando and I submit my application for the global rollback. I have years of experience with the permit, in November 2015 I was assigned to es.wikipedia - later in June 2017 I was awarded for my activity in es.wiktionary. I am also a rollback for wikibooks in both Spanish and English and I actively contribute to other wikis with the undo function which is more delayed and I wish to speed up the process. Since the end of 2015, I have used the rollback. I consider myself capable of handling the flag globally. Thank you for consideration.

- Oppose Not seeing much xwiki countervandalism work, outside of sites where you already have rollback, and virtually no edits to meta, which I would expect at least some if you were involved substantially with cross-wiki vandalism work. TonyBallioni (talk) 14:50, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose as above. --Steinsplitter (talk) 15:33, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

- Oppose Needs more activity globally. I would recommend that you join to SWMT. —AlvaroMolina (✉ - ✔) 01:30, 18 May 2018 (UTC)
- Sorry, but you don't have enough cross-wiki activity [1] less than 50 wikis doesn't convince me. If you have more experience in the future, I will support you. --Stïnger (会話) 01:34, 18 May 2018 (UTC).
- Oppose - doesn't have the typical level of experience required for this permission, and isn't particularly active reverting on wikis where they do not hold the rollback permission. Global rollback gives you access to advanced permissions (beyond just rollback) on all Wikimedia wikis, and we like to see reverts on many wikis across language barriers in candidates. – Ajraddatz (talk) 06:08, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
- Support Fernando is an active and supportive editor, and also volunteer at Wikimedia Mexico. He organised two rollback competition on esWiki, and I think he'll do an excellent work. --Luisalvaz (talk) 19:00, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose - Not much in your contribution history here on Meta. ~ Jay Jay Marcus Keize13 (talk) ~
- Not done, no consensus. Feel free to re-apply once you are more active reverting across Wikimedia wikis and have into account the above comments. Matiia (talk) 17:32, 23 May 2018 (UTC)

Requests for global IP block exemption
Global IP block exempt for AddisWang
- Global user: AddisWang (edits (alt) • CA • global groups • crossactivity • verify 2FA)
I would request a global IP block exemption flag. I thought I applied before and have it but seems like I do not (or no longer have). I live in China and require using some VPN service to visit Wikimedia Projects. And as the orgnazier of the Wikipedia Asian Month, I have demand to make edits in various projects. Thanks, --AddisWang (talk) 11:08, 3 May 2018 (UTC)

- You already hold global-block-exempt flag. If you are blocked, that is probably local block, and global-block-exempt does not exempt you from local blocks - only global blocks. — regards, Revi 11:11, 3 May 2018 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for Wzyboy
- Global user: Wzyboy (edits (alt) • CA • global groups • crossactivity • verify 2FA)
I live in China and use proxies to access the Internet because of en:Great_Firewall. The IP address of my proxy has been blocked by Wikipedia so I cannot edit pages even if I have logged in. I have got IPBE on zhwiki a few years ago. Recently I would like to engage more edits on enwiki but was stopped by IP blocking. I asked for help on IRC wikimedia-stewards and they said my blocking was a global one so I should apply for permissions here. Please consider giving me the permission to edit Wikipedia via proxies. Thanks for your consideration. --Wzyboy (talk) 14:31, 10 May 2018 (UTC)

- @Ajraddatz: Why because of my history on srwiki? Because they classified me as vandal? I never made vandalism on WMF projects. I'm contributing there and I know how is there bad situation with some administrators. Please give me global IP block exempt so I can work on other projects. I can not to bypass VPN. Global IP block exempt for Alimony
- Global user: Alimony (edits (alt) • CA • global groups • crossactivity • verify 2FA)
I was hit by a global block of an IP range (5.150.192.0/18) that belongs to my ISP (Bahnhof) in Sweden. Apparently open proxies have been found in this range. Not sure about the details, but it seems like a number of legimitate users are affected by this (see this page) so an exemption would be useful so I can continue contributing to Wikipedia. I posted a global unblock request as well but it was suggested in the comments that exemption could be a way to go. — Alimony (talk) 23:36, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Alimony: Granted for 1 year to expire on 2019-05-28. Please come back one or two weeks before the permission expires so we can renew it should you continue to need it. Best regards, —MarcoAurelio (talk) 10:39, 28 May 2018 (UTC)

Global rename for Yunshui

I spend a lot of my time on en-wiki reviewing username blocks, and would be able to ease the workload of other en-wiki global renamers if I had this right. However, please note that I'm not especially active on other Wikimedia sites, and that while I'm extremely familiar with the en-wiki username policies I won't necessarily be au fait with those outside my local wiki - so I will probably stick to non-contentious local renames as much as possible. Yunshui (talk) 11:51, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
- Support. We get a large number of unblock requests on en.wiki which require renaming, and an admin being able to do the rename and the unblock at the same time makes it easier for the blocked editor (with the arcane 2-step process being quite confusing), and it helps reduce the burden at the global rename queues. - That's an interesting suggestion - as most admins seem to use the Twinkle tool, it would only need the link to be added to the appropriate Twinkle block messages and the blocked editor could request a name change first. Having said that, it's sometimes surprising how many times blocked editors suggest new names which are still unsuitable on en.wiki (but might be fine elsewhere - eg company names on de.wiki). While I have no interest in renaming except on the English Wikipedia, it would streamline processing user name unblock requests on English Wikipedia. Now I must unblock and ask the requester to wait further for renaming. I could do it all in a single page visit, thus lifting the load from others.Dlohcierekim (talk) 12:42, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

I also think they're a bit too zealous in their clerking at CHUS for things that would normally get approved in the global queue or as an unblock request. TonyBallioni (talk) 14:12, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
- @TonyBallioni: May I know what made you think this "I also think they're a bit too zealous in their clerking at CHUS for things that would normally get approved in the global queue or as an unblock request."? ‐‐1997kB (talk) 15:53, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
- I supported this request, but I actually agree with Tony re: over-zealous clerking. Looking at the CHUS page now, you have left some comments that really aren't necessary (warning people about using their real name, or asking for a reason for renaming). The only real concerns that should be raised on rename requests are violations of the renaming or username policies, or informing a user that their requested name is taken. – Ajraddatz (talk) 16:05, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
- Well, to be fair. I don't see any problem with warning people about using their real name or asking for a reason for renaming. I (and other users on eswiki) have done so (in our local page) as well. If it should be done or not, I think that it depends user's criterion. Matiia (talk) 16:15, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
- Yes - not to say that such questions should be disallowed, but IMO should be used more sparingly than on every request that comes up. If a user is already using their real name, for example, then they shouldn't be given that warning when requesting that the start of their last name be capitalized or a space put between the first and last. – Ajraddatz (talk) 16:30, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
- Warning people who are already using a version of their real name about the dangers of using a real name, when they have already acknowledged this by linking to the harassment policy in their request is at best tedious and at worst confusing and could turn off new users. That combined with the relatively limited experience (both in edit count and actual time since registration) are enough for me to oppose. I don’t think they’ll break the system or anything, but I don’t think they’ve been around long enough to get what is a big deal and what isn’t, and this seems to be reflected in their clerking. TonyBallioni (talk) 16:49, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
- (Edit conflict.) Ah, yeah. I was thinking in changes like, for example, from Dv1809 to Nicolas Gonzáles Perez. Matiia (talk) 16:52, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Hello, I'm an editor and sysop in ar.wiki (my home wiki). We on ar.wiki suffer in many occasions from user names that violates our local username policy, and not often we find a free GR who can help in renaming such accounts (In this time علاء (Alaa) is the only active GR), so having the ability to perform these renames would enhance my ability to perform this work and help in it. I read the global rename policy (I'll focus essentially on requests on Arabic Wikipedia), so since I'm available on a daily basis, and there doesn't seem to be a reason that would prevent me from participating daily for the time being. Thank you Faisal talk 17:16, 3 May 2018 (UTC)

I want to help handle the queue of rename request come from idwiki, jvwiki, and some dialect of Indonesian language of wiki, one of them id:Wikipedia:Pengubahan_nama_pengguna/Permohonan. I was read the procedur or policy of the global rename and local policy. I know before User:Aldnonymous has global rename right, but now is inactive. I am requesting global rename rights to assist with global renames primarily on the English Wikipedia. I am familiar with the English Wikipedia username policy and the procedures for global renaming. As well as familiarity with many other English-speaking projects and their username policies. I am an active OTRS member, and have some experience as an en:WP:CHUS clerk. Additionally, I have made several submissions to en:WP:UAA. Thank you. — Music1201 talk 00:09, 24 May 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose All but completely inactive on en.wiki for almost a year (see Xtools). Since January 2017, you’ve only had 2 months with over 100 edits (typically the highly active definition), and 8/17 months had no edits (when expanded to 10 edits or less it is 11/17 months). If activity on en.wiki is why you are requesting it, you aren’t really an active editor there. I’d prefer to see a six months to a year of semi-consistent activity before this is handed out. TonyBallioni (talk) 00:41, 24 May 2018 (UTC)
- @TonyBallioni: Thank you for the feedback, but does my editing history show a lack of knowledge/understanding of the global rename policy? — Music1201 talk 01:15, 24 May 2018 (UTC)
- It shows you are not an active editor on your home-wiki, which is the project you want to help out on. We don’t hand out advanced permissions to inactive editors who have no recent evidence that they would use a flag to contribute to the good of the project(s). TonyBallioni (talk) 01:21, 24 May 2018 (UTC)
- @TonyBallioni: Again, thank you for the advice, but since when is "global renamer" an advanced permission? I think I start to get a sense of how things work after being a contributor for over 2 years. — Music1201 talk 01:22, 24 May 2018 (UTC)
- We used to only assign renaming to bureaucrats. I think that qualifies as advanced even if it isn’t the most sensitive out there. TonyBallioni (talk) 02:05, 24 May 2018 (UTC)

- Strong oppose due to his lack of activity and insufficient understanding of the English Wikipedia username policy. He was suspended from the English Wikipedia Account Creation Team for the latter, and has not demonstrated a better understanding since. I wouldn't call five sporadic edits to CHUS any real amount of clerking experience. — JJMC89 (T·C) 01:36, 24 May 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose Very little activity recently. Global rename might not be the most advanced permission but it is an advanced permission. It can seriously break things if not done correctly and being able to rename and move pages across all projects is certainly advanced in my eyes. I would want to see more recent history though which you do not have. --Majora (talk) 01:38, 24 May 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose since when is "global renamer" an advanced permission? If you are asking that question, you are not fit to be a global renamer. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 02:24, 24 May 2018 (UTC)
- Strong oppose after this edit. I am not currently concerned with whether or not you are able to use the global rename tool, I am concerned with your attitude around the user permission right now. You have failed to demonstrate that you recognize the amount of damage the tools can cause which is why it is an advanced permission. Global renamer is a position that requires a lot of trust; if you are going to say that trust isn't related to the global rename permission when it's applicable to every user permission on Wikimedia, what does that say about you and the attitude you have towards the permissions you are requesting? I suggest you read my comments and think very carefully about it first before trying to respond to me again. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 14:18, 24 May 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose The user doesn't understand the permission well. Few sporadic edits to WP:CHU (as aptly said above) are not enough to show understanding of renaming policies. Also not much has changed after your previous withdrawn request for Global Renamer –Ammarpad (talk) 03:57, 24 May 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose Global renamer, IMHO, is an advanced permission. If it wasn't, it wouldn't have 2FA as a default option for the permission. I'm also concerned about the suspension from the ACC team and the lack of explanation from Music1201 in that respect. OhKayeSierra (talk) 09:26, 24 May 2018 (UTC)

(Edit conflict. × 2) @JJMC89:, @K6ka:, @Ammarpad:, @OhKayeSierra: While some of these things are true, it still doesn't show that I am not able to perform the required functions of the global renamer rights. The comment "very little activity recently" has absolutely nothing in regards to the global renamer tool. The previous request was nearly withdrawn nearly one year ago with one supporter (who is a global renamer and trusted functionary). The simple fact is the reasons you have given are not related to the global rename rights. — Music1201 talk 13:28, 24 May 2018 (UTC)

Hello I have been an active contributor of multiple Wikimedia projects for the past 3 + years. I'm really particular about securing my accounts in the digital world; be it Email, social media or even Wikipedia.
I have enabled an email notification (each time there is a failed login attempt to my Account on wikipedia) so that even if I don't happen to open my wikipedia account in a span of few days, I'll at least get to know whether or not my Account is sound, each time I check my email. To my horror, since the last 3 months there had been multiple such failed attempts and I have been receiving these unauthorized log-in notifications. Today morning when I logged in (at 05:17 hrs UTC) there were 5 new unauthorized log-in notifications. Request of global abusefilter helper for Daimona Eaytoy
- Global user: Daimona Eaytoy (edits (alt) • CA • global groups • crossactivity • verify 2FA)
Hi, I'm sysop on itwiki and lately I've been working with AbuseFilter development. Quite often this implies viewing abuselogs and doing tests all around. For this reason, I'd kindly ask for abusefilter manager rights, which should be abusefilter-modify
, abusefilter-view-private
and abusefilter-log-details
if I'm correct. Basically, whatever group gives full read/write access to filters. Many thanks, --Daimona Eaytoy (talk) 17:08, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
Note: I resize my request to abusefilter helper group, per discussion below.
- I suggested Daimona request this since we get bug reports about private filters. So I support read-only rights. It seems global modify rights is no longer a thing. I think Daimona wants this because it gives access to the test and debugging interfaces. However maybe we (with community support) should allow access to this for users with
abusefilter-view-private
rights. After all, you can't change any filters with these tools, and you are already authorized to view private filters. — MusikAnimal talk 18:36, 4 May 2018 (UTC) - The global abusefilter editors group was restricted to staff only, and no longer exists. It would make sense to allow abusefilter helpers to use the test interface (and put the candidate here in the global helpers group) – Ajraddatz (talk) 18:42, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
- Resized my request, helper group is fine as well, and I hope to get to work on this thing of discordant user rights soon. --Daimona Eaytoy (talk) 18:45, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
- I suspect adding the check tool to the helper group "should" be OK - can we get any developer feedback on any security considerations to moving its control from abusefilter-modify to abusefilter-private? From what I can see this would require a software change, not just a permissions config change in our groups. — xaosflux Talk 19:12, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Xaosflux: Yeah, this needs a software change, which I just started to write. See T193903 for more info. My proposal is to extend it to users with abusefilter-view right. --Daimona Eaytoy (talk) 19:17, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
- Might make the most sense to bundle in with abusefilter-view or abusefilter-view-private (or both). Abusefilter-private gives access to the CU-level information held by the abusefilter iirc. – Ajraddatz (talk) 19:27, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
- I think
(abusefilter-view-private) or (abusefilter-modify)
would be the best combo. The CU one is "abusefilter-private" and they are pretty much already sysops with the other access. — xaosflux Talk 21:27, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

"There has been a failed attempt to log in to your account from a new device. Please make sure your account has a strong password." Just received that five days ago. I've been activating 2FA on multiple personal internet accounts over the past few months. After some investigation, I was directed here to make a request to have 2FA activated for my global or, at a minimum, Wikipedia account. Have been editing off and on since 2008, and I'd truly like to protect my account. Thanks, --Lostraven (talk) 21:01, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
