Number of days between signing up for dreamwidth and starting to look into the developer docs because there are some features I think I’d like to help add: 2.
Luckily for all parties involved, there are a number of hurdles between this impulse and contributed code, e.g. I don’t really know the language that most of dreamwidth is written in, I haven’t gotten my bearings on this large complicated code base, I’m not sure how to implement what I want, and someone else is almost certainly already well along on implementing the idea or two that popped into my head on day T+1.
But thanks to the ever-awesome
momijizakamori , I now know where the discussion is taking place, e.g., https://dw-dev.dreamwidth.org/200615.html
Oh, and what features, you ask? Basically any combination of pieces that allows me to get push-notifications on my phone in a somewhat timely fashion when (1) someone leaves a comment that would show up in my inbox, or (2) someone in a chosen friend group (or however we say that now) makes a new posting. Oh, and I want these things to happen without me writing an external “poller” that constantly keeps checking. The core code already knows; now I just need it to share the news as it happens. Webhooks, RSS(+IFTTT), something.
