I'm Joe Masilotti, Hotwire Native expert and author.

I've spent the last decade proving that native mobile apps don't require a separate team or a complete rewrite.

My book, Hotwire Native for Rails Developers, was published by The Pragmatic Bookshelf in 2025. It’s the definitive guide for Rails developers who want to ship iOS and Android apps without learning Swift or Kotlin from scratch.

I’ve shipped 25+ Hotwire Native apps for clients like 37signals, Exodus, and Context Travel. And I’ve given the keynote at Rails World in 2023 and 2025, introducing thousands of developers to Hotwire Native.

Before going independent in 2020, I spent five years as a lead developer at a startup, building iOS and Android apps with Hotwire Native (back when it was still called Turbolinks). And before that, I cut my teeth at Pivotal Labs, where I learned Rails, TDD, and pair programming.

These days I split my time between client work, building products, and being present for my two young sons, Miles and Duke. I structured my business so I can do great work without missing the stuff that matters at home.
