05.2 Herd iOS App for Mastodon

Mastodon is a decentralized, free and open-source (FOSS) social networking platform. There are many mobile apps available for using Mastodon. None of them worked for my needs, so I designed my own. I call it Herd. I am currently coding it and will release it for iOS in the not-too-distant future.

Three screens from the app. One shows the loading screen, comprising the logo that reads “Herd for Mastodon.” The second shows the app chrome surrounding a timeline feed with some various demo posts. The third shows a profile view with an avatar, poster image, bio, links, stats, etc.

I completed the UX and UI design for Herd a while ago. Unable to find a suitable partner to build it, I decided to dive in on my own. Building a mobile app for Mastodon is a massive and ambitious project. I am not afraid, but it will take some time. It will be a journey and I am already learning a lot.

When I finish it, in the spirit of free software, I will release it in the App Store for other Mastodonians.
