Motivation
editEveripedia is wiki-based online encyclopedia, currently available in 4 languages: English, Chinese, Korean, and Spanish. Since its English version is the largest English-language encyclopedia by number of pages, it can collaborate together with other sources to further enriching Wikidata through its extensive coverage of reliable and valid information. This property will be comparable with, for example, Fandom article ID (P6262) or Namuwiki ID (P8885), among others. BellaYunita (talk) 05:28, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
Discussion
edit- See Wikidata:Project_chat/Archive/2020/02#Is_Wikidata's_purpose_to_provide_links_to_every_(open)_wiki? - this is one of examples I mentioned.--GZWDer (talk) 06:58, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
- Support Very useful property for one of the largest non-WMF wikis. — Sagotreespirit (talk) 23:35, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Sagotreespirit:, it seems that "largest" is mostly because it's a copy from Wikipedia. --- Jura 10:33, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
- Support, an important property for connectivity.--Arbnos (talk) 19:03, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
- Comment I don't understand how you intend the formatter URLs (or the ID's themselves) to work. Does Everipedia sometimes have the same concept in multiple languages, so you would have multiple id's for one Wikidata item? And Wikidata's UI has no support for "$1"/"$2"-style formatters, only one parameter is allowed. An id like "en/Wikipedia" with formatter http://everipedia.org/wiki/lang_$1 might work, unless the "$2.everipedia.org" language prefix is essential? ArthurPSmith (talk) 17:44, 23 April 2021 (UTC)
- Comment Please take a look at the Fandom article ID, it is allowed to have even 3 parameters, i.e. https://$2.fandom.com/$1/wiki/$3. The "$2.everipedia.org" language prefix is indeed essential, any link without the prefix will be redirected to English version "everipedia.org/wiki/lang_en/$1". BellaYunita (talk) 06:43, 25 April 2021 (UTC)
- @BellaYunita: I don't know what happened to Fandom article ID (P6262) but those formatter URL's with $2 and $3 are non-functional, the UI is only using the 'https://community.fandom.com/w:c:$1' formatter. If you have something like that for Everipedia that should be used. The Wikidata UI has no mechanism for handling the $2 etc. portions of ID's at present. ArthurPSmith (talk) 15:46, 26 April 2021 (UTC)
- @ArthurPSmith: Due to limited ability of the UI regarding formatter URL, I have revised this property proposal as English Everipedia ID, along with its formatter URL. Separate property proposals for each of other languages version will be made. BellaYunita (talk) 12:20, 1 May 2021 (UTC)

- Comment Is there any significant amount of original content on here? Of the four examples given, three seem to be more or less straight copies of enwiki content. I'm not sure whether that would really be useful enough to justify a property. Andrew Gray (talk) 13:17, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Andrew Gray: Of course there are some 'straight copies', but actually more (English) Everipedia articles are not even available on Wikipedia, therefore impossible for them to be copies. Examples have been revised to reflect this fact. BellaYunita (talk) 10:24, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
- The examples here don't really look significant. Two of them are about twelve-year-old child actors, one seems to be a self-published novel, and another is the author of that novel. It feels really spammy. I think on reflection I would Oppose this property unless there's evidence there is useful and significant content that we can link to. - Ignoring the copied articles it's basically a fandom.com page for crypto and random things. It's more useful looking than Golden ID (P7502) which is only the former (\s). Not a great website but as long as nobody tries linking all the mirror pages I think it's probably fine. I do like how their article on wikipedia complains about the use of bots when right now I see bots injecting copyright violations into everipedia. Actually...maybe this website is worse than golden and fandom. BrokenSegue (talk) 19:17, 7 May 2021 (UTC)
Oppose I generally support adding properties for other wikis, even in cases like this, but the copyright situation seems to be really bad for Everipedia. Per c:Commons:Village pump/Copyright/Archive/2018/02#Everipedia using multimedia content from this project (credit to Animalparty for digging up that link), nearly every page on the site is a copyright violation because they don't use proper attribution for CC-licensed content. At the very least, it might be worth getting an opinion from WMF legal as to whether the measures in en:WP:COPYVIOEL are just enwiki being paranoid or something that ought to be followed globally. Vahurzpu (talk) 17:23, 8 May 2021 (UTC)- After taking a look at meta:Wikilegal/Linking Legal Considerations, it appears that to violate copyright law we'd have to encourage people to follow the links and infringe, which isn't really the purpose of an external identifier property. I'm not going to straight-up support, but I'm withdrawing my oppose and re-marking this as ready. Vahurzpu (talk) 23:41, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose Even if technically we could link to the site, I don't think a property is the way to go. If there are specific facts that can be referenced from the work (that are not copied, deleted or whatever from enwiki), this can be done with the usual Help:Sources approach. A new property just creates a maintenance burden with limited or no benefit to Wikidata. @Vahurzpu, Animalparty: thanks for your input and feedback. --- Jura 12:52, 15 May 2021 (UTC) @BrokenSegue, Andrew Gray: Thanks as well. --- Jura 12:53, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
