Motivation

edit

This property is intended as a substitute for (not as something to coexist with) P7790, both to allow specific entries within a particular page to be linked to and to reduce (if not completely eliminate) the number of non-unique values of P7790.

The possible values of this property are already used internally by the DLE website when examining its source:

  • Every "article" element has an ID that can be used with the formatter URL given above.
  • Every word that can be clicked on within a definition has such IDs listed (as the "data-id" attribute of a "span" element) pipe-separated.

At the same time, every "p" element has an ID that can be used as a fragment identifier (Q1440450) with the associated article ID. The fourth through sixth usage examples above are examples of links using those fragments, so if it is preferred then the domain above can be expanded to include compound lexemes and even lexeme senses.

@Hameryko: whom this will definitely affect. Mahir256 (talk) 04:42, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

  • Hello. The problem I see if these IDs are used is that, although the dictionary website uses them internally, they do not seem to be "official" IDs (unlike Wikidata's L***). If the website (dle.rae.es) were updated in the future, there is no guarantee that these IDs would still be valid. And modifying the links from property P7790 to this new one, or updating them if these IDs change in the future, seems like a challenging task. Is this used this way for other dictionaries? --Hameryko (talk) 23:52, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    • @Hameryko: A lot of dictionary IDs on Wikidata are not based on the lemma even if one based on the lemma is possible, such as for the Oxford English Dictionary, and at least one (Michaelis for Portuguese) could be converted to not use the lemma as well. It is not entirely impossible to perform a migration from older IDs to newer IDs should the RAE force this to happen (other ID properties on Wikidata have undergone such migrations as well), especially if it is still possible to search for terms on the website to find equivalent new identifiers, or if the website still honors older links (as the OED site does with respect to OED numeric IDs, and as WorldCat does with respect to the now-superseded WorldCat Identities ID). While some of the earliest links on the Internet Archive with an "?id" element do not unfortunately contain the content of entries, if we look at this entry page from 28 October 2015 (two weeks after the first archive of dle.rae.es's front page), the link to 'llover' as la 'Palabra del día' on the right side of the page still resolves to 'llover' over eight years later. Given that the RAE has been adding new words to this dictionary without having changed the IDs for existing words, it may be safe to regard the IDs as stable.
