The date of Iceland´s independence has been given as in 1944, which is a misunderstanding, even if it happens to be a common misunderstsnding. In the article text of a number of languages I have checken, the date December 1, 1918 is correct, so this is mainly a Wikidata fault.
1944 was the year when the time limited agreement between Iceland and Denmark from 1918 expired. As Iceland did not prolong it, the union between the two countries under a common monarh was dissolved. Iceland then declared itself a republic instead of continue as the Kingdom of Iceland.
This change also included that Iceland took over the handling also of its foreign affairs, which it had volontary agreed in 1918 to being handled by Denmark for a given period. This, however, does not changed the fact that Iceland got to be an independent nation already in 1918. Boberger (talk) 11:36, 1 December 2018 (UTC)
Time zone
editI changed "located in time zone" from Europe/London to Atlantic/Reykjavik because Europe/London uses daylight saving which is not correct for Iceland.
