WikiTide was a free, non-profit MediaWiki wiki hosting service that existed from 2023 to 2024. It was managed by the WikiTide Foundation. WikiTide was supported by user donations and did not include any advertising on its wikis.

In January 2024, it was decided that the WikiTide Foundation would take over Miraheze and the two sites would be merged, with the new site located at Miraheze. The merger began in March 2024.

Technical details

WikiTide always used the most recent stable version of MediaWiki.

WikiTide auto-installed several MediaWiki extensions on new wikis, with users having the option to enable many other extensions on the wiki (and request new ones), including VisualEditor and StructuredDiscussions .

WikiTide could download any MediaWiki extension, at the request of the operator of the wiki, provided that it passed a security review. The extensions that were already downloaded on WikiTide can be seen at their GitHub.

WikiTide used the extension ManageWiki to allow users on individual wikis to enable/disable extensions, change a variety of settings (their logo, their favicon, etc.), change permissions and manage namespaces.

If requested, WikiTide provided support for custom domains, as long as the domain was pointed to them.

The (open source) code created by WikiTide, now archived, is viewable at https://github.com/WikiTideOrg.

WikiTide used their own Phabricator instance for issue/bug reports as well as requesting features for wikis.
