What makes a real friendship? Can a friendship on the rocks be salvaged? And what are the lessons learned along the way?

Mairead Ronan, broadcaster and podcaster and author and Jenny Kelly author, podcaster, producer, presenter, joined me on the Real Health podcast this week to discuss their new book What We Know Now.

Jenny and Mairead met while working on the Ray Darcy show on Today FM radio station. The two said their friendship was almost instantaneous. Jenny explained, “When we met each other, it was like one of those scenarios of boom, friendship and falling in love. It was a friendship spark, and you know the way people say love at first sight, we were friendship at first sight.”

Unfortunately, the two drifted apart for a time and I aked about the rift. Mairead told me, “it was one of the hardest things I’d gone through. You know, I’d lost my mom, gone through divorce, but there was no row, no falling out.”

Thankfully the two reunited and at the heart of it, a walk in Dunmore East. Jenny informed me that they “were circling each other, you know like animals in the wild. I think it was nature that brought us together. We both loved Dunmore East and we went out for a massive, big hike. We were all chatty, and towards the end of it I was like, ‘I’m gonna say something’ and I brought it up and then the two of us just like started crying like two eejits.”
