When this movie came across my recommendations on Netflix, I didn't think much of it until I saw that Regina Cassandra had a titular role. Considering she is one of my favourite actresses in recent times, I decided to give it a go and boy it did not disappoint.

I will start by talking about the negatives first and get that out of the way before moving on to the positives. Firstly, whoever dubbed for Nivetha Thomas, I hope you never dub for her again. There is no sync between her wonderful expressions and the tone of her voice. It's such a wasted opportunity. Secondly, there should be some research done to sell a realistic plot line. The character Damini apparently gets an internship as a Business Analyst that pays $120/hr. What dream realm is this and where can I find it? Even those with more than 5 years of experience don't get paid that much in the US and interns rarely get paid at all. There were discrepancies like this that remind you that this is fiction indeed. Thirdly and lastly for the negatives, there should be a good balance between strength and brains with the two characters. While it was clear that Shalini brings in the brawn with her kabbadi background, Damini shouldn't have been expected to be the exact same. She should have been the brains instead and fought the antagonists using her wits to complement Shalini's strength to make them a powerful duo.

However considering all this, it was still a treat to watch. The comedy was not too cringe such as those in recent times and the chemistry between the two leads were great. And the mainstream plot still kept me at the edge of my seat rooting for the leads. You know why? Because for once there was a good women centric film that actually met expectations. It wasn't overly unrealistic where one woman beat 100s of rowdies in one puch but just enough to show you that it's an action packed film.

Also what's funny is that if you look at the negative reviews right here on imbd, it's mainly from men who can't take it that women can have an action pack sequence too. Their fragile masculinity is showing and its honestly hilarious.

Anyways, this movie definitely has the potential to become a series where we can see the Sakini Dakini duo go on to solve cases as policewomen and potentially bring in a variety of interesting cases to the limelight. Hoping for this to happen!

Give it a watch, you won't regret it!
  • I get what the makers were trying to achieve, I truly do but wow they missed it by a long shot.

When I saw that Madhavan was headlining this, I had huge expectations as his previous works have been spectacular and well made in every sense. However, this show must have been a bit too ambitious for him. The makers clearly tried to characterise his role as a blunt straightforward guy with a witty sense of humour but he only came off as a highly privileged insensitive "author" whose whole personality revolves around crude sexist humour that borderlines on toxic masculinity. Although I can't say that I didn't laugh at all throughout the series but was it because it was genuinely funny or was it because it was so bad that I could only laugh? Hint, it's the latter. Watch at your risk and if you genuinely enjoyed this, good for you and your low standards.
  • If I could rate this 0 stars, I would.

What in the atrocity is this movie? Not only am I disappointed in the usually stellar cast for picking this nuisance of a film but I'm disappointed in everyone of you raving about this pure waste of people's time and money. If only it could be swallowed up by a black hole and disappear from existence. I only have two questions to Nayanthara, Jagapathi Babu, Prakash Raj, Kushbu and Meena: 1. WHY?

    2. Are you seriously that poor that you would act in this nonsense and grovelling at the public for more money?

To Rajinikanth, it's time you save face and respect your legendary career and retire already. It's honestly borderline disgusting to see you play the "brother" and "love interest" characters to those actresses that are as old as your daughters, dare I say it, grand-daughters. Why can't you pick dignified roles that reflect your age or at least just stop picking stupid roles. The audience have evolved and it's honestly disrespectful and you are literally mocking us if you think this is what we enjoy.

To the director of the movie, disappear please and never make a movie again. Utterly disgraceful to Indian cinema.

To those who haven't watched it, if you would like to torture yourself and almost break something around you to control your cringe, this movie is for you but if you value your time, money and surroundings, I'd recommend you skip it.
  • One thing I love about Sekhr Kammula's films is that he is a master of seaming real world issues into family friendly films. I have been a fan of his work ever since I had watched Happy Days, which remains a nostalgic classic to this day and this film is another feather to his hat!

First of all the complex issues of casteism and religion in India is a difficult concept to be translated on screen as most of the time, it is always romanticised to a degree where it just becomes unrealistic. However, Kammula had wonderfully captured the realities that various caste systems still face to this date while not straying too far away from the essence of a family film. Furthermore the concept of sexual assault was carefully curated as it should always be treated with caution and respect and he had managed to do this by wonderfully weaving it into the story line.

Now for the performance of the actors. I am extremely happy to see Sai Pallavi on screen again with another performance based role. She absolutely did justice to her role as Mounika where you can see the foreshadowing of the plot through simple nuances in her acting. The thing I love about her style of acting is the ease and natural aspect she brings to the screen. Heroines a decade ago should not be justified as heroines as their personalities and characters portrayed on screen is nothing to be celebrated about. However, in recent times, the leading ladies of Tollywood are finally getting roles that can be justified as being heroines of a movie. As for Naga Chaitanya, he had an amazing hit with Majili and is now back with another enticing script which shows that he is picking his scripts carefully. I used to think he was monotonous with his acting but he definitely showed some improvement as Revanth in this film. One thing he could improve on would be to be more nuanced in some scenes that require subtlety.

As for the visuals, it is right out of Kammula's visual book and lived up to his name. The background score is melodic and fits well with the theme but some songs feel recycled from Kammula's previous films. The pacing of the movie was fine until the second half where everything felt rushed, especially the ending. Instead of adding unnecessary songs, more time should have been given to evolve the ending.

Overall, a good attempt on everyone's part. Another feel good movie by Kammula that leaves you thinking about his message. Watch it once, twice or how many ever times you like as Kammula's films are always worth it.
  • When this movie released on Netflix, I audibly cringed as I was never a fan of Akhil Akkineni's nor Pooja Hegde's acting but I was bored out of my mind and I had already watched all the critically acclaimed films there were on this platform so I decided to give it a go.

My first impression from the first scene itself was that it was filled with the archaic and outdated sexist wife-bashing jokes that, let's be real, all our fathers are still sharing on WhatsApp. Hence naturally I had thought this movie was going to go nowhere in terms of storyline nor complexity of its characters and I was right to some extent.

Visuals wise, it is a very vibrant, stylistic and breezy looking film. The cinematography was crusty at times but you'll most likely get distracted by the background score. The BGM can be a bit much but Gopi Sunder as always knows how to elevate certain scenes with the right amount of musical tenacity. Also it is 2021, when are directors going to focus on writing proper stories instead of adding an unnecessary amount of songs in the film?

Moving on, the performance by the lead actors was what I was most surprised by. Akhil and Pooja make a good pair, it's visually pleasing to watch no doubt but I had very little expectations for their acting therefore I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had improved. Akhil has managed to find a middle ground in reflecting his grandfather and father's style and with more experience, he would be able to create his own. Pooja has gotten better at emoting especially at the crucial scenes of the film but she still needs to challenge herself with more complex roles instead of always picking the modern and liberal girl next door type of roles. However, they both are taking the right steps in improving their performance so hopefully they will get better scripts in the future in order to shine.

On a whole, this movie was slow and could have been paced a bit better and there were so many elements taken from Bhaskers' previous films such as Bommarillu and Orange that it just seems recycled. However, the message is clear and well needed in today's society where parents are still forcing their archaic views and perspectives on a "perfect" marriage on to their children. Like the movie suggests, what's life with your life partner without romance? And like many old idiots who think they know it all and think that word romance itself is a dirty word that belongs in the bedroom clearly needs to wake up from the 1950s. Clearly they have not read novels, let alone those written by women. I must say, Akhil's character growth though very subtle and has a long way to go, can be justified with the phrase 'written by a women' because at the end of the day, a person should be able to show and act on their love not just say it for the sake of saying it. There's something about showing your loved one that you love them than just saying it. It's the simple gestures that doesn't require you to say it out loud, like your mother cutting fruits for you to eat when you are busy. My mother has only told me she loved me a few times in the many years of my life but I know she does so by her actions. This is the same expectation that one should have from your partner, if not, why get married in the first place? I guess this is the essence that the director was trying to convey, albeit he tried but some of us got the gist of it.

So give this movie a go if you want to kill time but don't have too many expectations. This is not a critically acclaimed level of film nor does it deserve to be called garbage. And for those who do call it that, had obviously not understood the meaning or message of this film.
  • After plucking enough courage to see our classic SSR one last time, I had decided to finally watch this movie. I knew that there would definitely be crying in this film since I had already read the books years prior and the current context this movie was released in was equally gut wrenching, so I had a box of tissues ready beside me. Spoiler alert: They were useful.

The real rating of the movie is around 5-6 stars as the storyline and direction was mediocre. The visual were simple at best, felt no life in the movie right until our superstar appeared. Like turning on a light switch, the movie had come to life. Not sure if its because of the circumstances or because of the acting prowess himself, I couldn't take my eyes off him. I was noticing every little detail. The swifts in his hair, his loveable smile, the way his eyes crinkle with every little sheepish giggle. Every small thing. I wasn't really invested in the character of Manny but I was invested in Sushant bringing that character to life. What an irony that is. The storyline almost coincides with reality, with every small dialogue he had uttered, it felt like he was speaking directly to his admirers and sharing his very own philosophies. It was like Manny's dialogues were the representation of Sushant's own instagram feed, the real ones know what I mean. Although the story and cinematography were quite basic, the acting and music were phenomenal. The music in his final shot made tear stream down like never before. The music made it worth it.

Not the best cinematic tribute to a legend but beggars can't be choosers. Sushant, where ever you are, thank you for being you and making us all happy in the time that you were here. I hope you get justice and can finally be at peace. Thank you for comforting us through Dil Bechara. Rest in power SSR.
  • A very soulful movie with the tagline apt for its plot. Vizag's beauty is beautifully captured and with the accompaniment of the melodic BGM, Majili is a treat for the eyes. Naga Chaitanya is not a bad actor, in fact through movies like Ye Maya Chesave and 100% love, we can agree that he is decent. The only issue is that he is very monotonous, he's neither improving nor deteriorating. He is consistent with his acting but if he wants to match up to the level of his father and grandfather, he has a long way to go. Thankfully, Majili came to his rescue and became a treat for his fans with some improvements in his acting capabilities. It was a much needed blockbuster for him. His talent truly came out in some scenes where you can justify the nepotism but he is no match for Samanatha. This beauty is one of the best actresses in this generation and she truly convinced us with Shravani. Posani and Rao Ramesh were endearing as always, Subbaraju was unnecessary in the film and Diyanksha made a decent debut.

As for the downsides of this film, it has quite a predictable plot, a few unnecessary characters and very superficial knowledge of the game of cricket. Especially the scene where Poorna insults Meera for her grip and shows her the "correct" way to grip a cricket bat when it is actually the worst way to grip. He is supposed to be a great player of the game but no knowledge of such basic things put you off. But it's not a film based on cricket (GO WATCH JERSEY FOR THE REAL DEAL) so I guess it ticks a few boxes in the family drama genre. The songs were another let down, Gopi Sundar usually produces classics but except for Priyathama, the rest were not up to par and doesn't leave a mark.

Finally, Majili is definitely as one time watch for Chai's improvement and Sam's beautiful acting but if you want to go for a realistic film, miss this one.
  • As an avid fan of cricket, most cricket based films annoy me due to their superficial knowledge for the game. But Jersey was the only film in recent times which showed us that great things can be made, if we truly are passionate about something. It was honestly on a whole other level in showcasing cricket. I was mind-blown with the authenticity, it was as if I was watching the actual game. The realistic mannerisms that Nani had adopted truly shows his dedication and prowess as the finest actor in recent times. I was truly impressed with him when he chose to produce an unconventional film like Awe but this just sealed the deal to my fan loyalty towards him. You'll be crying with Arjun, laughing with Arjun and you'll end up rooting for him throughout. Nani didn't just act as Arjun, he lived the role and what a stellar performance that was. This movie wouldn't be the same if it had missed any one of the characters, they make it raw, they make it complete. The story line, the music, the characters, I don't think there are anymore words in the dictionary to describe them and any such will be an understatement, but all I can say is, if you want to watch a film that leaves you haunting with emotions, go watch Jersey and you definitely won't regret it.
  • Honestly, Indians are truly commendable for their money spending habits. We spend less money but produce high standards almost always. A movie similar to this in Hollywood will cost ten times more just to produce the same effect with just a little bit better plot and VFX. In fact, Indians spent much less money sending 'Mangalyan' (our Mars orbiter) to Space with five times less budget than the movie 'Gravity'. That too, in their first attempt.

This movies ties the storyline and its characters seamlessly and keeps you at the edge of the seat with its thrilling music and second half plot. The first half was a bit lagging but the actor's performances was commendable especially Varun Tej who's choosing great scripts these days by the way. The only down sides of this movie is a predictable sci-fi plot with some scenes similar to prominent Hollywood movies like 'Gravity' and 'Interstellar' but it is still a great attempt at producing an engaging space thriller. Also, wear your seat belts kids and do NOT write when you're driving. Like seriously.
  • Pure acting brilliance by everyone in the cast as they lived their characters but Keerthy Suresh had not lived as Mahanati Savitri garu, she became her. Her role was given the most justice possible and I cannot visualise Savitri garu without Keerthy popping into my mind. The direction and screenplay is commendable and Nag Ashwin did a great job in seaming together the life of a legend. The only downside was the characters of Samantha and Vijay devarkonda which were unnecessary and only created unwanted distraction and confusion to the main essence of the film. More portions of Savitri garu life could have been added instead of the unnecessary fictional storyline of Samanatha and Vijay. They were definitely not needed and should have just been cut off from the film with the whole film solely focusing on the life of Mahanati Savitri and other secondary characters. Despite that it was a beautiful nostalgic film and definitely worth a watch!
  • It can definitely be considered as a breakthrough film in the TFI but it lacks realism. It is established as a bold, raw and an intense film which it is but I don't think a character like Arjun Reddy exists in the real world which implicates the rawness and the realism of the film badly. It almost felt like a try-hard film trying to break all the barriers at once which is good for entertainment but bad for any sort of message or symbolism. The highlight of the movie is with no doubt Vijay Devarkonda who shows his brilliant skills as an actor etching the role of 'Arjun Reddy' into the list of characters of a lifetime so its worth the watch to view his acting brilliance, but the story is definitely overhyped and monotonous which kind of feels depressing to watch but I guess that's the "rawness" they are talking about. Don't watch it with your parents ;).
  • Warning: Spoilers
When I had watched it when it was first released, I had absolutely loved it, the characters, the music, the comedy, and of course the storyline was so heartwarming and loveable. But re-watching it today made me release how overhyped this movie actually is. It idolises stalk culture and has a unrealistic plot-line. Who in the right mind will allow some random girl who your son loved to stay in the house without knowing if her parents gave her the permission. It is illogical and definitely fictional. The female characters are as usual down-played and not given much importance until the end and the character of Hasini tends to get annoying sometimes, no one can be this naive and child-like. Genelia although pulls off this character with ease and Prakash Raj's versatility is commendable although it does fall under one of Sidharth's relevant but weak roles of the past. Like I said, perfect watch for the audience at that time but it can't be considered as a classic but definitely worth a one time watch with family.
  • Defiantly worth a one time watch for the pure brilliance of the cast and the simplistic story line. Might feel slow for some and it can get a bit boring at times but the characters bring the story alive and make it worthwhile to get through. A simple, feel good movie that will definitely attract both the youth and families alike.
  • Interesting plot with unforgettable characters and beautiful music. Direction and Cinematography is pure bliss to watch with stunning frames and beautiful visuals. Only downside of the film, Naga Chaitanya's acting could improve slightly as it falls behind other prominent stars like ANR garu,Nag garu and Samantha who definitely wowed the audience effortlessly. Worth the watch!
  • I had always thought Telugu movies only consisted of commercial and masala oriented topics, which is true, only till a few years ago. The TFI today is definitely changing and changing for the better. To see a story like this was an utter surprise which helps it stay true to the title and I was definitely left awed by this film. Talent like Prashant Varma need to be recognised since writers like him tend to produce "awe-spiring" scripts like this. The beautiful blend of visuals, the eccentric mix of genres and the climax were definitely the focal points of this movie but the theme is where the soul is. It teaches our Indian society, where such issues are most prevalent and most taboo, the importance of such issues and opens many tightly shut eyes to the injustices happening around us. Movie like these are what makes TFI proud and I'm thankful I got to watch this beauty on the big screens. And to all those who gave a low rating, you either must be blind, have no social consciousness, or not enough intelligence to understand this movie because this movie is a literal masterpiece in today's time. Forget Baahubali (even though I loved it) and go get Awed by this cinematic brilliance.
