Fate/Zero
(2011)

One of the greats, so lovable
You could watch this anime and never hear of the original Fate/stay night which is a beauty.

It pretty much sums everything up in the first episode, it's long and might bore you but it will pay off to understand the rest of the series.

If you're into historical subjects then you will enjoy it, however, they do twist it up a bit (not the reason why it's a 8 by the way)

Absolutely amazing writing, alike with another anime: Attack On Titan (and all the fangirls flip their shizz) it is very dark, maybe even a bit darker. Unlike AOT it does have lighthearted moments, not many but a few.

The characters are also nicely detailed, the fight scenes are great and you fall in love with the characters. Fate/Zero does stay fray of the traditional animes however, it's more realistic than some I've seen. In all honestly, it would be cool to see this as a live action.

It is such a great set up for its remake of Fate/stay night.

Sôru îtâ
(2008)

Didn't really like but I can see why it's so popular
The first time I watched Soul Eater I honestly liked it, however later on in the series I couldn't stand it.

I will admit the critical reasons I didn't adore it are unreasonable so we'll put those aside. This anime has a very unique sense of animation, the dub is fine, and the theme song is great. The characters, though, are very quirky. Which is enjoyable honestly, you can't find too many characters like them.

But like unlike other animes, this one disappointed me (will get to that later) It was very different, in many ways, for example it's comedy, it's characters, and it's storytelling. Throughout the series, however, I did not bond with any character like I do with at least one of every animes I watch.

There not a lot of reasoning to why, they just didn't seem relatable. Yes, the characters are funny but it's hard to click with them.

The ending is very unsatisfactory, in all honestly I wanted more but I didn't really want to read the manga. It's odd, I don't really how to explain maybe it's just me.

Beside the fact, it's a good watch. The appropriate age range would be maybe 12 or for mature kids 10. It's dark but not too dark.

In conclusion, I respect Soul Eater. It goes a different route than other anime and gives out a risky animation style. But besides it's dark humor, the story is pretty typical. Which is the main reason why this anime disappointed me.

Lucky Star
(2007)

My first anime, probably not a good one to start out with.
I love Lucky Star, even to this day.

However, I wished I wouldn't have chose to watch it as my first.

Let's just say it has a LOT of anime references. Everywhere you look "Oh look it's Haruhi Suzumiya", "Hey that guy in the background is cosplaying as Alphonse Elric," "KEREO GUNSO!!!"

So by all means, if you're thinking of watching your first anime outside Pokémon and others like it, do not watch Lucky Star.

Despite the references I still enjoyed it though and I watched it a couple of years back and it was 10x more enjoyable.

But it has absolutely no plot what so ever. It's like all of the filler ever, the characters have no goals it's just pretty much being themselves.

I would give this show a higher ranting but it isn't worth a higher rating. A 6 is average and that's what Lucky Star is.

It's cute but I kind of recommend skipping the first episode, they talk about food for the first 20 minutes and it's funny, well until 5 minutes turn into 10 then 15 then you've already stopped watching.

So start with episode two, please it will do you so much good. It's a light hearted comedy and vey nice. If you have otaku friends (female would be better) it's a good anime to watch at a sleepover. I'm even thinking of doing that myself, but I don't have a lot of otaku friends so, I probably can't.

But hey, it's a great watch anyway, Also, if you're super sensitive to English dubs don't think about listening to it. I don't care about dub vs. sub really and I will admit, the English dub is really bad.

Kuranado
(2007)

Great but jeez, that ending.
If you watched Clannad (regardless if you enjoyed it) watch Afterstory.

It will definitely change the outlook on the series.

Great arcs (my favorite is the underrated Yoshino Yusuke) and very great writing, a beautiful soundtrack, beautiful animation, not so amazing English dub but that's what subs are for, and good characters

--------Spoilers starts here------

But the ending, oh my god. Seriously? That was best you could do Jun Maeda (writer). Basically erase everything that happened and made all the events in Afterstory never happen.

That was horrible.

The entire series you saw a girl (resembling the main character's daughter Ushio) and a robot. It ended up tying up with this stupid light orb crap that made every time sunshine happy which brought his (later on) dead daughter and wife back to life.

I'm sorry but seriously?

I believe Jun Maeda could of done this instead and Clannad Afterstory would of have been amazing.

The girl symbolized Ushio and her bringing her father out of a depression of losing his wife, the robot is able to walk again (meaning to be happy) and live with Ushio.

There was no reason to bring Nagisa (the main character's wife) back to life. That was like giving the fan base a cookie, you don't give the fan base a cookie. You give them a series to enjoy, not this extra sappy crap. (But I do love cookies so thank you Mr. Maeda. But you should kept Nagisa dead)

The main character could of gone through so much more and so much greater character development is Nagisa never came back to life and Ushio lived.

That is one of the reasons I like the movie better, it actually does that.

----Spoiler over-----

Anyway regardless of my rant, great anime.

Hagane no renkinjutsushi
(2009)

Not overrated, it is the best anime out there.
Ever since I've watched Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood I have loved it. I have watched many animes after and I still love it. Still my number one, it is probably the best anime ever.

Amazing if a understatement when talking about the characters. They are beyond compare to any other characters and same goes for the story.

This series is part of my soul and I'm a anime critic, I don't say that about a lot of animes, not even Cowboy Bebop and that is one of my 10s.

Everything about this anime is amazing, the soundtrack, both Japanese and English dub; for the first time ever an otaku will state that FUNimation did a better job with the dub than the original Japanese one.

Also we cannot forget those action scenes, great and keeps you on the edge of your seat, the romance is also so shippable (<---that's a word now) my favorite is a tie between RoyxRiza and LingxLanFan.

But anyway, go away FMAB fangirl. Time to talk about this anime's flaws.

First of all, it is very long and the first episodes are very rushed. It is rather long and does end making you want more. Not a 'great way to end', you REALLY WANT MORE.

Sadly, it has been 4 years since it has ended and still, no FMAB sequel or spin off or video game or light novel in sight. There was a OVA but that's all we've seen.

But maybe we should accept that it is over, but do we want to? Nope. Are you kidding? I can accept if any other anime, or game series, or TV show was over and never seen again. But FMAB, I pray we'll hear from you again one day.

(Maybe even a little Easter egg in Silver Spoon, Hiromu Arakawa. You can make one of cow's face in the background look like Ed.)

Angel Beats!
(2010)

Great but rushed.
Ah, Angel Beats.

Let me first say, this anime and Ouran NEEDED a extension of episodes.

Beside that I really like this anime but it is VERY rushed.

Many of characters were introduced and you never learned their backstory which really REALLY sucks.

All of the characters are great but the main character is extremely bland and so is his love interest, Kanade.

If the anime had focused on Yurripe or Hinata (which I believe the manga does), it would of been better.

Its a nice watch though, yes it is overrated but good.

Great soundtrack, awesome animation, a decent English dub (it's not super annoying, honestly it isn't), and nice comedy.

If you've watched Clannad and want to watch another anime before Afterstory then put Angel Beats in there. It's a nice anime and has a series of emotional back stories.

I liked Angel Beats and it was nice but it could of been more. I have considered reading the manga as well which I believe doesn't have Otonashi nor Kanade so cool.

But anyway, it's a nice watch and decently enjoyable. Good writing just wished it was longer. No second season please, just a extension.

Fruits Basket
(2001)

Cute but average, nothing too special
Fruits Basket is a cute first starting anime, it has light-hearted comedy and a majority of lovable characters.

Personally, the main character; Tohru annoyed me to my core. She's pretty much the poster child of Mary Sue. Yuki; another love interest of her is pretty annoying too.

However, Kyo is probably one of the best characters in the story. Very lovable and the ship between Tohru and him is awesome, even if you hate Tohru (like myself).

But this anime is not THE BEST EVER, it's a cute piece and something to watch in a weekend. While watching it, I wanted more. I wanted something to just be amazing, but sadly, nothing amazing really happened,

Not saying I don't recommend it, because I do, but it's not a classic like Ouran.

It's a good watch but again, nothing special. The dub is alright, the animation is decent, soundtrack is decent, and the story is...well...eh, but not terrible.

If you like Ouran High School Host Club, Toradora, Boys over Flowers, it will be enjoyable.

Ôran kôkô hosutobu
(2006)

Really good, absolutely love this one
Ouran High School Host Club was one my first romance animes and it was a amazing watch.

Great characters, a cute story, hilarious comedy and lovable characters.

However it is not the perfect anime, a shojo classic but no 10/10.

The shortage of episodes is really an issue with this anime. After the last episode I began reading the manga.

This anime should of got an extension, if it did definitely would get a point up to a 9. Why not 10 you probably ask? Well here's why...

Like it or not the title should really be: Haruhi's harem. Even if you like harems it does get annoying the fact that everyone adores the main character.

Listen, is a great character her cheekiness is awesome but why can't at least someone not like her?

Not in a second (at least what can recall) does any of the host club members hate Haruhi.

They ADORE her, personally I wouldn't. She has a great personality and all but she has flaws that get in the way of liking her, I mean, come on. Why does everyone love her at first glance?

You may not agree with his review which is perfectly fine. Ouran High School Host Club is great and one of my favorites.

A great shojo, a awesome English cast, good animation, and a catchy theme song.

Kaubôi bibappu: Cowboy Bebop
(1998)

A classic, the godfather of anime
Oh, this anime is so good. The soundtrack is fantastic, the characters are awesome, the action keeps you on edge, the writing is bad ass, and after you watch it you'll be depressed because it's over.

It's very rare for me to give anything such a huge rating but Cowboy Bebop, is definitely a exception. This anime I recommend to every action fan. If you have nothing to during a weekend.

Well, time to binge on this terrific anime because every minute is worth it. You'll fall in love with the characters and the catchy theme song will be stuck in your head for weeks.

You are not a hard one anime fan if you have not watched Cowboy Bebop, it is that good do check it out. It's totally worth it.

Sword Art Online
(2012)

The animation is the only thing amazing about this anime.
Sword Art Online is a beautiful and awesome anime, from an animation standpoint. Story-wise not so much. The first season has the usual typical plot that at least me, as a viewer, bored me. The main character, Kirito irritated me and really wasn't a lovable character. Yes, characters are suppose to have flaws but Kirito didn't have much; that why he was pretty annoying.

The female protagonist isn't much different to your usual anime helpless heroine, I will admit she kicks ass the first season but pretty much is a damsel in distress the second season.

In conclusion, Sword Art Online could of been a great anime. However because of cliché harem it is literally the most: overrated anime ever. It's pretty to look at but the writing is absolutely horrible, the characters are annoying, and there is literally no one is this anime that I like. Well, beside the animators.

If you're looking for a 'amazing anime' this is not one of them. If you're looking for something pretty to look at and don't care about the story, this is perfect for you.
