After the Flood: Breaking Cover
(2024)
Episode 6, Season 1

Disappointing
This series started with a good premise. A pregnant female detective trainee finds a dead body in an elevator shaft after a big flood recedes. Being pregnant everyone wants her to take it easy, like they all live back in the Victorian Era. Living in the present, she ignores them just as she ignores all the good advice she gets as well. Too bad as she and the story develops it ends up with just about every cop show trope ever conceived. I won't give out spoilers, only to say the finale in trying to resolve all these overdone themes, leaves one feeling like the writers just tried too hard to be so clever and almost, but bit quite, come up with a better series.

The Vanishing Triangle: Episode #1.6
(2023)
Episode 6, Season 1

Well, that's 4.5 hours of my life wasted...
Terrible series. Starts off with a very interesting premise then quickly dissolves into every overdone murder mystery, gay cop, bent cops, gay beating cops, and supervisor cover ups cliche you ever seen, not to mention lots of gratuitous violence. The ending is just terrible. Left soooo many things totally unresolved. I gave up on it after the third episode. I only watched the rest because my wife just can't bring herself to quit a series half way through no matter how terrible, and even she was left so unsatisfied she had to ask out loud "Is that the way they end it?" Can't help but think the best parts somehow ended up on the editing room floor.

Casual
(2015)

Hard to want to watch.
I get it. The show's supposed to be edgy and about casual sex and modern dating. But the writers tried so hard for edgy they crossed over into cringy. They made none of three main family characters likable. Two are just shallow stereotypes - the cynical geeky uncle who writes a "successful" computing dating app who understands statics more than human emotion, and the wise-beyond-her-years 16 year old high school who acts more like a sex-starved 26 year old. The only character who is somewhat believable is the professional psychologist mother trying to cope and recover from a recent divorce. But even she shows lapses of judgment that are just too unbelievable.

Which is a shame because the premise of the show is interesting and the acting is actually pretty good. But it's hard to root for these dysfunctional people when they're exactly the types you would avoid if you met them in real life.

Inspector Morse: Masonic Mysteries
(1990)
Episode 4, Season 4

Terrible!
Deus ex machina is a plot device where an amazing, unforeseen solution arrives to fix a problem. Problem is this episode has the worst one ever of all the Inspector Morse episodes. Don't waste your time trying to follow the plot and figure out who's tormenting Morse as all of a sudden someone from his past that was earlier properly accounted and eliminated from suspicion, suddenly pops up a computer expert how hacking into prison, police and bank records to explain the irregularities. It's a terrible use of a plot device that provides a terrible ending that is most unsatisfying. Don't waste your time watching this one if you enjoying following rational detective work and insights, but do watch it if you like the timely appearance of a "writer's god" to unravel and magically resolve the plot.

The Mirror Crack'd
(1980)

Star studded lineup butchers great story
Too campy. If you want to see a bunch of big Hollywood stars from the '60's, then this is the show to watch. But don't expect to see much acting. This movie is more just to showcase them and their countenances rather than their talents.

The Borrowed Christmas
(2014)

Don't bother!
I enjoy good Christmas movies. This isn't one of them. The acting is incredibly stiff and just downright too painful to watch. I thought the idea of the story seemed interesting enough that it would enable to slog through the wooden dialogue and monotone deliveries apparent from the opening scene, but 30 minutes of it was all I could manage. It not only did not get better, but got even worse, which I didn't think was possible!

The Commander
(2003)

Good acting but terrible plot
If you can get past the totally unbelievable plot premise of a tough, female top cop in male dominated profession and the silly, soap opera dialogue, you'll enjoy the great acting. Other than that don't waste your time. There's way too little else in this show and far, far better ones.

Keeping Faith: Episode #1.1
(2017)
Episode 1, Season 1

Don't waste your time!
I'm not going to spoil by giving away details, but this show starts off fine, but unfortunately goes quickly downhill with each following episode. The actions of the principal characters just get more and more unrealistic and unbelievable until you realize they are just total fantasies from writers utterly uninformed about real investigative procedures.

Partners in Crime: N or M?: Part 3
(2015)
Episode 6, Season 1

Could have been good, but too long.
Another example of padding a 90 minute script into 3 hours. This would have been a much better production if it was tightened up.

No Offence: Assassination Attempt
(2018)
Episode 1, Season 3

Don't Bother....
This Season 3 is just about a total waste of your time. What started out as fresh concept of three very diverse women learning to work and trust one another in Season 1, suffered a bit in the darker, but still decent Season 2, has now turned into just another run-of-the-mill "troubled cops with good hearts" series. The plot line has been done so many times on so many other mediocre detective shows, I found myself predicting not only the story line, but the dialogue as well. Got so boring that I just stopped watching it after the third episode.

The Tunnel: Episode #3.6
(2018)
Episode 6, Season 3

Skip Series 3 - Terrible idea terribly executed.
This whole series started off badly and ended even worse! It was so convoluted with subplots and so confusing trying to keep all the characters straight and figure what relationship, if any, they had with the main characters. Clearly a case of writers thinking they are just so clever, they forgot the first thing about entertaining an audience is to entertain THEM, not yourselves. I'm sorry I wasted my time watching such unbelievable trash.

The Tunnel: Episode #3.1
(2017)
Episode 1, Season 3

Subpar
This episode is OK, but not up to previous thrillers. Using helpless children is just a cheap emotional trick to make up for the lack of imaginative writing.
