Le notti di Cabiria
(1957)

The Nights Of Cabiria An Odyssey of Feelings
Federico Fellini's Masterpiece Le notti di Cabiria is about a young woman's odyssey, who is by the way a prostitute, throughout Rome.During this odd adventures she comes face to face with her dreams but she never accomplishes them. She in a nostalgic climate looks back when she was younger and more innocent. She is a human being who admires people who give love and are selflessness. In the end she gets charmed from one people like those and in her kindness she believe's him but him tragic conclusions. The trust that she shows to people throughout the film is the reason she gets deluded, but those characteristics make her, even she doesn't realize it one of those people she admires. The ending although it seems sad in total, the last taste that the audience takes is the view of a fighter,a human that looks everyone in the eyes and doesn't fear to show feelings to anyone.

The movie might seem boring to some people but when they'll reach to the ending they will be remunerated.

The ending climax and the landscape of one of the most dramatic scenes in cinema is outstanding. The viewer draws away from the happy turn the movie has gotten and is thrown for another time to cruelty of the world, but for another time people have to turn their backs to heartbreak and death and fight again. The viewer suffers with the character in a silent scene where both the actress and the director prove their talents.

Summing up the movie is totally worth watching.Having a clear mind while watching it will help to get all the meanings many of which have escaped this review.

Highlight of the film:The Ending.

To meteoro vima tou pelargou
(1991)

To meteoro vima tou pelargou
Our house is your house. Our house ... We passed the borders and we are still here. But how many borders must we pass to go to our home?

This particular phrase from the unforgettable Theo Angelopoulo's film sums up the whole meaning of the film and the Trilogy of borders.Alexandros a TV reporter armed with the energy of the youth seeks a missing politician in a border town. The town is full of people from many ethnicities among them there is the politician(Marcelo Mastoioanni). His character a talented writer and politician disappears mysteriously and leaves everything behind to seek the very place which will make him happy,he seeks a home. The film title is a reference on the fatal step that people may take to cross the borders literally and not,the thoughts in that hour and danger of doing the step or fending off from it.Mastoioanni's character for another time in the end of the film takes the step of the stork and goes in another journey crossing borders once more.

One of the best movies of Theo Angelopoulos.Unlikely from the most of his films, here the dialog serves the plot smoothly. The actors marry words with emotions. The beautiful landscape photography makes the movie even more beautiful.Although as all Angelopoulos movies the action is reduced. The mainstream viewer might get bored as it is a cult film with deep emotional scenes.Humanism dominates as people are the center of the films's axis.People have to overcome all the borders in their way even if they are guarded from soldiers.

The movie with a simple plot delivers deep messages who change everyones way of thinking. All in all one of the greatest Greek films of the century.

Highlight of the film: The Suspended Step of the Stork on the board line of Evros and the odd wedding across the river.

O melissokomos
(1986)

Ο Μελισσοκόμος
This film taught me that you have to do the craziest things, leave everything behind and travel when you have the change. Then Spyros(Marcelo Mastogianni) after his daughter's wedding he leaves his job as a teacher and goes on a road trip from north to south with the thing that he cared about the most in his life his bees.

Spyros is the tragic hero who finds love but he has to leave it because he couldn't hold it and his lover couldn't respond to his love.In the middle of the film we see the outburst of Spyros he wins the girl and leaves with her.The girl understands his loneliness his silence and the feeling of caring he has for her.The bees are the reason he is traveling but when he meets the girl the travel gets a different cause. So after she has abandoned him he in a final dramatic scene lets the bees to kill him giving him the end he always wanted.

Marcelo Mastogianni's performance is great.Although the dialog is little in the film.Nadia Mourouzi is great too and delivers the story the best way possible.Theo Angelopoulos once again with magnificent storytelling and landscape photography gives the viewer an unforgettable experience.Sometimes you might feel a little bored though, because of the little dialog. But the short dialog isn't a disadvantage because it is the film which needs silence since the film belongs to the Trilogy of Silence.

Also I have a theory on the girl.I believe that the girl is an imagination of his wife and the things the live together are memories of her.He visits his old hometown they make love on the theater,I believe that all these images are memories of how he met his wife. The film itself has a nostalgic air,so by traveling he remembers his old love.Another clue is that people from the present like his old friend(Dinos Iliopoulos) or his daughter have no contact with the girl. With the end of the journey the memory leaves, the girl leaves and he dies.I think it is possible as Theo Angelopoulos uses shots in his films often drift back and forth in time.Of course it is just a theory.

Highlight of the film for me it was Spyro's unique death and the brief view of my hometown Ioannina.

Átame!
(1989)

A mad person's affair with a porn star is such a unique story.
After watching Almodovar's Atame i stood a little bit and had some thoughts about what i saw(something that happens almost every Almodovar film). The way that Almodovar tells he story is brilliant.Banderas's role makes the viewer that the plot will be evolve into a triller rather than a romance comedy.Almodovar once again chooses a female for the lead and once more he succeeds serving the action around his characters.

The plot is such a unique story about a psychological ill man who loves madly an ex-porn star and kidnaps her, tying her down in her own apartment. He wants her to love him,but his sometimes violent methods seem that he won't complete his goal, but then there's the plot twist.

Almodovar, whose movies are a mean of shocking the after Franco Spain, does indeed shock again.People in the time that the movie was realized didn't have used to live in a free Spain so the ignored some of their personal rights.Almodovar helps them to know their rights and respect the different.

In this movie you get to know about real feelings, love and how it can be grown in the most odd places,in the oddest situations.Ricky evolves from an violent former mental patient into a love subject.Marina evolves from a ex porn star now on her zenith of fame into an understanding lovely woman who after many pleasures gets to know true love.

Another funny element is Almodovar's alter ego the director of the movie Marina stars in.It is said from the director himself that he is a director of women so does Almodovar.

Although it might not be Almodovar's best it is certainly a have to watch.I personally had a great time watching the movie.I don't believe that only Almodovar's fans watch this film as it is not his most shocking of his career(not like La mala Educacion,The Skin I Live In).

A beautiful movie whose happy ending leaves you a sweet taste for tomorrow.

I epithesi tou gigantiaiou mousaka
(1999)

Spicy,meaty,funny experience
The Attack of the Giant Moussaka, Greek: Η Επίθεση του Γιγαντιαίου Μουσακά; 1999), is a Greek science fiction parody film, produced, written and directed by Panos H. Koutras In this film the city of Athens is at war with a terrifying gigantic mousaka accidentally produced when an ordinary serving is hit by a ray from an alien space ship. The plot promotes the movie with humor as it puts feelings to a traditional Greek dish.Mousakas is violent and wants to accomplish its objective at any means.Tara the transsexual drag queen seems to be popped out of an Almodovar's film.Tara helps the director to serve the action and continue the plot. The movie also satirizes the Media which deform the news and put aside everything in order to accomplish their goal.Mousakas is an illogical creature in an illogical world.Of course the movie is a b-movie so the special effects are not great but they do well with the other parts of the film. The director doesn't fear the different and features many unusual things in this movie. If you wanna have fun and speak for a movie all night laughing then watch The Attack Of The Giant Mousaka, but watching it for a second time you will notice things other than the strange death scenes.

Movie Highlight: Antonis Boudalas's death after shooting Mousaka.

The Tragedy of Othello: The Moor of Venice
(1951)

A completed Shakespeare drama .
Orson Welles with skillfully and with highly narrative techniques manages to give the viewer a comprehensive view of the tragic history of black Venice, Othello .Not many movies and even fewer directors can adapt theatrical masterpieces of Shakespeare on screen .Welles uses his directing intelligence to guide the audience through the story without being boring.Of course the experimental photography and daring choice of frames may confuse the viewer in some cases. Also Welles again shows his talent in acting , like other actors of course since the acting is over the top.In conclusion maybe film does not fit naturally to the mainstream viewer but can leave integrated anyone haven't yet tasted the works of Wells and / or Shakespeare, but the lovers of the kind and of the director will be pleased to add "The Tragedy of Othello: The Moor of Venice" to their movie collection .

Sunset Blvd.
(1950)

Film-Noir at its best
After spending time and time watching this movie genre,I believe that I can say with clear mind that its the best so far.The movie goes further than the ordinary Private Eye hero and makes a brilliant use of photography music and message giving. The acting is great and the directory more than pleasant. The story follows the hero though his dangerous life and romantic point of view.Even if you prefer the private eye noir style you will be very pleased of watching it.Smooth music and fantastic dialogs bond with the other advantages of the movie.Defenatly a great movie. The only noir genre movie than can be compared with is Double Infinity another not P.E noir.

Wilder has many times shown as his talent. But with this film his fame as a top director of his time. This film might be like an old romance movie with a taste of mystery but as you continue watching you the plot shows elements that were hidden in the first place.Madness, true love, the feeling of being prisoned. The actros are just great, they feel the moment giving as a great finale that will always be remembered.A sad moment of course is the death of the main role and that he like a writer that he is never completes his story a story of madness and love.He never gets to see how the story that himself is narrating. The audience of course watches the finale with agony.
