Moominvalley
(2019)

Theme tune can cure anxiety
I put this on and was absolutely captivated. Can i go back and unwatch it all so I can rewatch it fresh? I guess not, even with a rewatch or two i feel it would uncover new depths to each episode.

The whole show made me feel immediately relaxed, the perfect antidote to tellytubbys tv, on a pace with moon and me but for older kids (adults too)

I'm not joking the theme song calms my anxiety, its an actual masterpiece.

If this came out in 2019 why isnt there more of it already? I need more dammit.

I grew up on moomins tho i have no recollection of how or what, this really explains why - peaceful show.

Sweet Tooth
(2021)

Throughly rewarding, it stands unmatched in its uniqueness
I wasn't sure what to expect with this series initially, i mean it's kind of a strange sell - who is it aimed at? Is it for teenagers, weird middle aged women like me? People who just cant get enough dystopian content?(also me) In not really being aimed at a targeted audience it kinda allows for greater creativity.

Everything is so shockingly violent or graphic now (Fallout) in order to delight people, which i think Sweet tooth still does at points too. Its not all cute like you expect from the cover, some of its quite confronting . I mean these hybrids are children, and sometimes what happens to them is definitely not fairytale - there is a real darkness in it that is matched perfectly in its sweet protagonist Gus.

Every series has a rewarding ark and a new mystery to unravel, and unlike say Game of Thrones - it feels like Sweet tooth knew where it wanted to go and mapped it out perfectly. Its been a journey I won't forget in a hurry.

Great acting from all involved and fresh faces. I think it had diversity in its varied characters and stories without most people even realising it.

Like finishing a good book on a train, I mourn the journey is at an end but i feel satisfied with where its taken me.

A Gentleman in Moscow
(2024)

Loved the diversity, pleasantly surprised by the slow burn
I didn't really know what to expect but i had heard of the book and it looked very stylish so gave it a whirl. The slow burn style felt a bit like recreating the feeling of reading an epic novel but for your eyes?!

The hotel itself felt Wes Anderson approved, and i fell in love with the minor characters throughout - i thought the diversity felt very natural and invisible to the telling of the story. I did sort of yearn for the main characters life to be based on a real story but i guess in reality that would never ever happen.

I stuck with it to the end, and felt satisfied- i think it will stay with me for a while after.

Johnny Harris was an absolute stand out in this - incredible chilling and yet warm but i enjoyed Ewans and Mary-Elizabeths chemistry.

The Marvels
(2023)

Marvel wrote a movie for me
They wrote this for me- 40 something female nerd with a love of subtle NIN tshirts, the Evita soundtrack, kittens, singing, sisterhood and space aliens.

Not sure what the hate is for this movie, tonally it was in step with the guardians movies in terms of how it meshed humour and action, and it wasn't an excitable unsubstantiated mess like Thor: Love and Thunder before it. My only criticism is i still don't care much for the Kree or Scrolls as side races they are a bit _meh.

Nick Fury and Ms Marvels family are supporting stand outs.

Nod to how fantastic Captain Marvels dress was in "that scene" - add another Princess to your list Disney.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Those Old Scientists
(2023)
Episode 7, Season 2

Lot of love went into this
I wouldn't say it's the best script ever but there certainly was a lot of love poured into this episode.

Kind of wish all four key lower decks characters got thrown back into time, it was a joy to watch them come to life. I felt like doin some of the SNW crew where a bit harsh to ST:LD crew, or grumpy / maybe it was just a reflection of how mismatched the tones of the show are next to each other. I enjoyed the injection of Spock humour in this episode, was a stand out for me alongside the bartending sequence.

It was a fun romp, I'm grateful they created the cross over. I will continue to love both shows separately as intended!

Troppo
(2022)

Thomas Jane delights in this aussie drama
Honestly I'm not into crime dramas so I don't see the feedback on it being "on format" for the genre.. all i know is the characters were delightfully rich and deep from Thomas Jane to the chick who stars opposite him and beyond.. really consumable drama, a solid result abc.

Only thing that was a bit off was people wearing jackets in the outback? I thought it was like 30+degrees in winter.
