Updated with latest: Selena Gomez revealed the Wizards of Waverly Place sequel title at Disney’s upfront Tuesday. The spinoff will be called Wizards Beyond Waverly Place. She also shared two first-look images which can be found below.

Deadline broke the news of the sequel series in January. Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas serve as writers and executive producers. Andy Fickman directed and executive-produced the pilot and will direct multiple episodes.

The original show ran four seasons, winning Emmys and doing well in the ratings until star Selena Gomez decided it was time to graduate to more adult roles. The show ran from 2007-2012, with Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie also airing on the Disney Channel in 2009. The cast returned for a stand-alone television special, The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex, in 2013.

There have been rumors of another reunion ever since and now, after a decade, Disney is making them a reality.

Filming’s expected to get underway in May 2024 on the Wizards of Waverly Place sequel, Wizards, which just received a series order from Disney Channel and Disney+. David Henrie will reprise his role as Justin Russo as a series regular, with Emmy nominee Selena Gomez appearing in a guest-starring role in the series premiere as Alex.

Wizards (the working title) will film in Los Angeles, with Disney+ and Disney Channel anticipating a 2024 premiere.

Following the news that former Wizards of Waverly Place stars Selena Gomez and David Henrie are reprising their roles in a new Disney Channel sequel series, fans of the original show can’t help but wonder which other familiar faces might appear (as if by magic!) in the project.

Tentatively titled Wizards, the new show is a continuation of the original sitcom, which aired from 2007 to 2012. Both Gomez and Henrie are executive-producing, but only Henrie is expected to remain a regular if the pilot is picked up to series, whereas Gomez is only guest-starring in the first episode.

Disney Channel is looking at a revival of its comedy Wizards of Waverly Place, ordering a pilot for an updated take on the 2007-12 series. Gomez and Henrie will be executive producers of the project, with Henrie also attached as a series regular. Gomez will make a guest appearance in the pilot.

Henrie will play the grown-up Justin Russo, who has abandoned his wizarding powers for an everyday, magic-free life with his family. That’s upended when a young wizard (Janice LeAnn Brown of Disney’s Just Roll With It) finds him and asks him for help in both training and ensuring the future of the wizard world. Gomez will appear in the pilot as Alex Russo, Justin’s sister.

Netflix has snapped up rights to Incoming, a comedy written and directed by The Mick creators Dave Chernin and John Chernin, in their feature debut.

First announced last summer, the film stars Mason Thames (The Black Phone), Bardia Seiri (Grey’s Anatomy), Ramon Reed (Just Roll with It) and Raphael Alejandro (Acapulco) as four high school freshmen who navigate the terrors of adolescence at their first-ever party. Boy Meets World, starring Danielle Fishel, Ben Savage and Rider Strong, was a hit coming-of-age TV series that ran from 1993-2000. It provided plenty of young viewers on-screen proxies for their own ups and downs with adolescence and young adulthood. Without a doubt, the element that made the show so meaningful to so many was the connections between the characters.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner has ruled the death earlier this year of comedian, actor, producer and sketch-comedy group The Whitest Kids U Know co-founder Trevor Moore an accident.

Moore died August 6 after a fall from a second-story balcony at his Los Angeles home. He was 41.

The cororner said in its report that the accident occurred in Moore’ backyard, where he was found on the patio. He died of blunt force head trauma. The report also found that Moore’s blood alcohol content was well over the legal limit.

The report said it viewed security camera footage that showed Moore exit the residence and “jump over the railing.”

The musical, which ran from October 2008 to January 2009 at the Bernard B. Disney Channel is ready to roll. The network just announced the premiere date for season two of Just Roll With It.

The live-action family comedy allows the studio audience to choose in which direction key scenes will advance, and then the actors improvise. The series centers on preteens Blair (Kaylin Hayman) and Owen (Ramon Reed), newly minted step-siblings in Bennett-Blatt family. Blair’s mom Rachel (Suzi Barrett) recently married Owen’s dad, Byron (Tobie Windham), her co-worker at Beatz 101. Now, with their lighthearted parents, Owen and Blair are trying to get the hang of everyday family life in a brand-new blended family.

Disney Channel‘s second season of “Just Roll With It” will premiere on Sunday, March 15 at 8:45 p.m. The sitcom follows the Bennett-Blatt family as they navigate everyday family life and adolescence. The series stars Tobie Windham, Suzi Barrett, Ramon Reed and Kaylin Hayman, as well as J.C. Netflix released the trailer of Season 3 of “On My Block.” The eight-episode coming-of-age comedy follows four street-savvy friends as they navigate their way through the “triumph, pain and the newness” of high school in a rough inner city.

Walt Disney Television has named its 13 writers for its 2020 Writing Program. The initiative offers advanced professional development before participants are hired as staff writers on Walt Disney Televsision shows during the program year.

Of the 13 is news marketing associate and former writers’ assistant Darnell Jones who has been named the Disney Channel Eunetta T. Boone Comedy Writer Scholar, established by the network in honor of the late writer/producer for diverse and aspiring comedy writers. Boone was best known as an executive producer and showrunner of the third season of Disney Channel’s comedy series Raven’s Home.

On the comedy side, participants include Family Guy writers’ assistant Allyson Philobos, stand-up comedian Feraz Ozel, feature film line producer Gabriela Lugo, reality television producer Tasha Henderson and advertising exec-turned-development-assistant Vicky Castro. Drama writers include television feature writer Adrian Vina, Evil writers’ production assistant David Ramirez, black-ish production assistant Keisha Ansley, Narcos writers’ assistant Paola Villegas, writer/producer T Zhang, Grey’s Anatomy producers’ assistant Zaiver Sinnett and “Dynasty” writers’ production assistant Zoe Cheng. Fox TV announced Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Chelsea Handler, Jane Lynch and Rick Fox are among the celebrity contestants to appear on new game show “25 Words or Less.“ The half-hour game show is produced by Dino Bones Prods. and executive produced by Kudrow, Dan Bucatinsky, Mary McCormack, Michael Morris, Michael Canter (who also showruns) and Bruce Sterten. Two teams comprised of celebrities and civilians are pitted against each other as they compete to see who will win the top prize of $10,000. Hosted by Meredith Vieira, “25 Words or Less” will debut Sept. 16.

Exclusive: Disney Channel has ordered a second season of multicamera comedy Just Roll With It, a unique scripted/improvisational hybrid that includes the live participation of the studio audience. Additionally, the network has entered into an overall development deal with the show’s creators and executive producers Adam Small and Trevor Moore to write and produce programming for Disney Channel and Disney+. Production on season two will begin this month.

Just Roll With It blends a scripted family sitcom with improvisational elements and allows the studio audience the opportunity to vote on the outcome of certain scenes. Disney Channel has scheduled its first live, interactive sitcom telecast with an upcoming episode of Just Roll With It.

The show, which features a blend of scripted and improvisational comedy, will feature a Halloween-themed special titled Just Roll With It: You Decide Live! at 9 p.m. Et/6 p.m Pt on Oct. 4.

The title of the new Disney Channel series “Just Roll With It” appears to be as much a directive for its cast and crew as it is a description of the multi-camera hybrid sitcom, which is part scripted and part improv.

The plot revolves around the blended Bennett-Blatt family — strict mom Rachel (Suzi Barrett), radio host dad Byron (Tobie Windham) and their tweenage kids.

At three junctures during the show a horn sounds and the actors are sequestered backstage as the studio audience determines what happens next, voting from among three outrageous options — for instance, whether an aerialist suddenly enters the scene, a cast member must eat strange food combinations, or one or more of the thesps wind up drenched by something wet and messy.

For the union crew members who work on the show, the unscripted elements mean they must prepare for a minimum of nine possible scenarios each episode,...

Along with Nick, Disney is one of the few purveyors of live-action scripted series for pre-teens and young teens. With their new Just Roll With It TV show, the House of Mouse is upping the ante, by mixing in improvisation, with a sort of a choose-your-own adventure element for the studio audience.
