Set in Westerfeld’s futuristic world, Uglies follows King’s Tally as she counts down the days until she can undergo a cosmetic procedure that all city-dwellers experience at the age of 16, transforming their faces and bodies into flawless model-like physiques. This is all Tally’s known her whole life, until a new friend of hers runs away and exposes Tally to a different way of living. Torn between Shay and her now beautified best friend Peris, who waits for her in the city after his surgery, Tally must choose between all she has ever known and a form of society that will challenge everything she believes.

Joey King is finally getting her “Divergent” and “Hunger Games”-esque YA-novel adaptation.
The “Kissing Booth” trilogy’s alum and “The Act” breakout star leads “Uglies,” set in a world where teens are tracked down and forced to undergo plastic surgery to be their most “perfect” selves. Think of it like a reverse version of buzzy Cannes title “The Substance,” just taking place in a dystopian near-future out in the forest. Of course, the feature also includes the staple YA love triangle and more genre tropes.
“Outer Banks” actor Chase Stokes, Keith Powers, Laverne Cox, Brianne Tju, and Jan Luis Castellanos co-star.
McG directs the Netflix feature that is written Jacob Forman, Vanessa Taylor, and Whit Anderson, based on the novel by Scott Westerfeld.
King previously told IndieWire that each project across her decades-spanning career, from “Moneyball” to “The Dark Knight Rises” to Hulu’s Holocaust miniseries “We Were the Lucky Ones...

Patricia Arquette and Tom Felton have joined the cast of They Will Kill You, the thriller being produced by Nocturna Pictures, the horror label formed earlier this year by Skydance and Andy and Barbara Muschietti.
New Line is co-financing and distributing the feature, which will have Kirill Sokolov in the director’s chair when shooting gets underway in mid-September.
Zazie Beetz is toplining They Will Kill You, which is described as a horror feature laced with black humor and telling the story of a woman (Beetz) who answers a help wanted ad to be a housekeeper in a mysterious high-rise in New York City, not realizing she is entering a community that has seen a number of disappearances over the years and may be under the grip of a Satanic cult. The project has been described as being a tonal mix of Ready or Not and The Raid.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard will voice the audiobook edition of her first memoir.
Audiobook publisher RBmedia announced Tuesday that Blanchard will narrate the audiobook edition of her first memoir, My Time to Stand: A Memoir. Written by Blanchard with Melissa Moore and Michele Matrisciani, the memoir will release in December, a year after Blanchard’s release from prison.
Blanchard said in a statement: “I can’t think of a better way to connect with readers than for them to hear my voice as I read the words of my life’s journey so far. By narrating my memoir, My Time to Stand, I hope readers will feel like I’m in the room with them, so they can find the strength, hope and inspiration to explore their own stories and heal. The original title of the new romantic comedy A Family Affair was the much-edgier MotherF*&#er, and despite being very funny in terms of the basic story of an older woman who starts an affair with the younger movie-star boss of her 24-year-old daughter, it probably sets off wrong expectations for what is a smart, character-driven romcom that serves up a delicious cast with a witty script and engaging situation for all. The generic title gets more to the point as this all directly involves three people in a multi-generational coming-of-age tale for all in their search for personal happiness.
Netflix actually is using that original title in its ad line for the film, calling it “A MotherF*&#er of a Love Story,” and that says it all. Coming on the heels of Amazon’s rom-com The Idea of You — in which a fortysomething single mom (Anne Hathaway) finds unexpected...

This all very well could be a fever dream, or a slightly buzzed hallucination. Such are the thoughts that pass as the white wine is uncorked — let’s be real, it’s a twist-off — and “A Family Affair” opens with real-life Zac Efron red carpet footage of the actor at TIFF. But this isn’t TMZ, this is a scripted Netflix rom-com. And we love it.
Directed by “Beautiful Creatures” helmer Richard Lagravenese from a script by Carrie Solomon, “A Family Affair” reunites Efron with his “The Paper Boy” co-star Nicole Kidman, and adds in beloved everywoman Joey King to make a different kind of unconventional love triangle. Both Efron and King’s characters just want Kidman to be a supportive mother type: One as her actual mom, and the other as a Milf.

Joey King has signed with WME for representation.
The 24-year-old actor is best known for Netflix’s “The Kissing Booth” franchise, as well as Hulu’s true-crime series “The Act.” She scored an Emmy nomination for “The Act,” in which she portrayed Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who faced years of suffering and abuse as a result of her mom’s Munchausen syndrome by proxy. (The real Gypsy Rose eventually faced jail time for the second-degree murder for the death of her mother.)
King’s other credits include Hulu’s historical drama “We Were the Lucky Ones,” David Leitch’s action-comedy “Bullet Train,” Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises” and “Crazy Stupid Love.” This summer, she will voice a character in Universal and Illumination’s “Despicable Me 4.” King is also starring in Netflix’s “A Family Affair” alongside Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman.

Gillian Anderson was once the face of TV thanks to her role as Dana Scully in “The X-Files.” That show awarded her some healthy, consistent Emmy attention (more on that later) before she underwent a bit of a break from that awards applause for a while. However, Netflix’s “The Crown” gave her career something of a second wind and that Andernaissance (sorry) has continued here with “Scoop.”
Like “The Crown,” Anderson excels here portraying a real-life person in a true story concerning the royal family. While she played Margaret Thatcher in “The Crown,” she takes on the role of presenter and journalist Emily Maitlis in Netflix’s “Scoop.” This TV movie documents the behind-the-scenes story of how producer Samantha McAlister (Billie Piper) secured the “scoop of the decade” and landed that interview with Prince Andrew (Rufus Sewell).

AnnaSophia Robb’s attendance at Chanel and Tribeca’s Women’s luncheon during the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival demonstrated how much her portrayal of Carrie Bradshaw in The Carrie Diaries influenced her style.
Wearing socks with heels has long been a controversial fashion statement. While some consider it tacky and a fashion faux pas, others think it’s chic and modern. Pairing such can be pretty challenging for me, too. To pull it off, though, I think it comes down to confidence and a sense of style. Needless to say, AnnaSophia Robb has both!

Joey King on the Responsibility of Portraying a Young Holocaust Survivor on ‘We Were the Lucky Ones’
Since she began acting at 4, Joey King has been waiting for an opportunity to play a character that’s not only impactful but deeply personal. That dream was met with her depiction of Halina Kurc in We Were the Lucky Ones, a Holocaust survival drama based on the true story of a Jewish family determined to reunite after being separated during World War II.
When approached by director Thomas Kail about the role on the Hulu series, King said yes on the spot, before reading the script. “I had this feeling that this was going to be something I really wanted to be a part of, and I didn’t want to second-guess it,” explains the actress, who is Jewish. “I don’t know if I would consider it manifestation, but I really had hope for myself that I would be able to tell a story of this nature someday.

AnnaSophia’s Perspective on Height and Perception
“Everyone always says that guys are intimidated by me,” she told Teen Vogue in 2013, “but I seriously doubt it. I mean, I’m five-foot-nothing!”
“I think I must make a stank face,” she joked. “I loved high school,” AnnaSophia added.
“Everyone always asks me if the other kids treated me differently because of my career, but they didn’t. If you act weird, people are going to treat you weird, but if you’re just yourself, people respond to that.

In 2019, Sandra Oh simultaneously received her seventh and eighth acting Emmy nominations for “Killing Eve” (drama lead) and “Saturday Night Live” (comedy guest). Five years later, her performance bid total is set to reach an even dozen thanks to her respective lead and supporting performances in the telefilm “Quiz Lady” and the limited series “The Sympathizer.” Earning TV academy recognition for these two roles would make her the eighth woman to compete for both possible limited program acting awards at once.
In “Quiz Lady,” which premiered on Hulu last November, Oh plays Jenny Yum, a vivacious yet reckless woman who reunites with her estranged younger sister (Awkwafina) to resolve their mother’s gambling debts. “The Sympathizer,” which began airing on HBO in April, features her in the role of Sofia Mori, a 1970s Japanese American secretary who becomes entangled with a communist spy (Hoa Xuande).

From nuns and handmaids to webslingers and oversexualized teens, Sydney Sweeney has done a fantastic job in her decade and a half of acting.
While she has been dubbed a sex symbol, that title doesn't even begin to define the actress's range of skill when it comes to dramatic roles.
Having amassed 22 awards nominations and securing three wins, primarily for her breakout role in Euphoria, the actress has become a mainstay in the entertainment industry.
Though she's been acting since 2009, it wasn't until recently that she started blowing up the news circuits with her career-defining performances.
One thing that can be said about the actress is that she takes every opportunity to elevate her characters as far as possible.
Here, we've assembled a set of Sweeney's most notable television and film roles. From comedy to horror to gritty drama, the actress is not limiting her role choices.

Even with all the preparation that Joey King did for “We Were the Lucky Ones,” nothing could have prepared her for meeting the descendants of the Kurc family. Anna, the daughter of King’s character, showed up on set while filming was happening in Malaga, Spain. “It was this very emotional, beautiful moment. The first thing she said to me when she me, she outstretched her arms and she looked at me and she said, ‘Mama,’” she reveals to Gold Derby during our recent webchat (watch the exclusive video interview above). The gesture brought tears to King’s eyes. “She had not met me yet, hasn’t seen any of the work I’ve done to portray her mother yet, yet is here giving me this warm embrace and confidence that says, ‘Yes, you are playing my mother and I’m so excited.’ It just felt like a real big green light for me.

“I do not feel free. I feel like I am in a different form of prison,” Blanchard laments in the trailer for “Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up,” which sees her fielding death threats on Instagram, being followed on the highway and consulting a plastic surgeon about her nose.
Blanchard also copes with the fallout of her marriage with Ryan Anderson, whom she married in July 2022, during her eight-year prison sentence. She filed for divorce against the special education teacher in April 2024.
“I don’t want to lose my wife, I love her,” Anderson says in the series, which was presumably shot before the couple officially separated.

Awkwafina rose to fame with her idiosyncratic, trademark comedic stylings. Then she wowed us all with her against-type performance in Lulu Wang‘s “The Farewell,” which very nearly earned her an Oscar nomination back in 2019. She delivers another quiet, subdued role in the Hulu telefilm “Quiz Lady,” which could well reap her a career-first Emmy bid for acting.
Awkwafina plays the reserved Anne, who must compete on the game show she is obsessed with alongside her loud, abrasive, estranged sister Jenny (Sandra Oh) in order to pay off their mom’s gambling debts. The result is a heartwarming comedy that is one of the sweet treats of the year. Critics loved the movie and singled out Awkafina for particular praise.
Tania Hussain (Collider) exclaimed: “While Awkwafina has shown audiences a whacky, often one-dimensional side in some of her roles like the sitcom ‘Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens,’ she is able...

Brooklyn Nine-Nine alumna Melissa Fumero, AnnaSophia Robb (The Act) and Ben Rappaport (For the People) are set as leads in Grosse Pointe Garden Society, NBC’s drama pilot from Jenna Bans, Bill Krebs and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.
The drama follows four members of a suburban garden club — three of them played by Fumero, Robb and Rappaport — all from different walks of life, who get caught up in murder and mischief as they struggle to make their conventional lives bloom.
Fumero plays Birdie. Entitled, rich, swathed in Chanel, a smoker, a drinker, self-destructive at times, toxic at others, but not without real pain beneath her facade, Birdie is a successful author whose memoir, “Digging for Gold: Dancing Through Divorce,” is a bestseller.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard announced her separation from her husband Ryan Scott Anderson earlier this week. Keep reading to see how Gypsy has addressed the rumors that she’s back with her ex.
Matching Tattoos & Now Shopping Together
Earlier this week, Ken Urker’s mother, Raina Williams, revealed that Ken and Gypsy Rose got matching tattoos. Snapshots of the new ink showed that the pair got matching husky tattoos on opposite arms. This way, the dogs would face each other when they placed their arms side-by-side.
Now, they have been spotted in public together looking rather cozy. The pair were intimately holding hands as they exited a Dollar General in Southern Louisiana on Wednesday. New pictures show Ken and Gypsy entering the store to pick up a few things.

Joey King is no stranger to a shaved head. The actress has (so far) done away with her hair three different times for roles — and assumes she’ll probably do so again at some point.
With current discussion in Hollywood about artificial intelligence kicking way up, including what it can and can’t do, and the ways it may change how actors work, IndieWire asked King how shaving her head helped her performances. Specifically, if potentially not having to do so in the future, thanks to technological advances, appealed to her or would it change something about how the actress preps.

When Joey King was approached by director Thomas Kail to star as Halina Kurc in “We Were the Lucky Ones,” “It was just kind of an immediate yes,” King said to IndieWire. “No thoughts, just yes.”

For fans of World War II period dramas and the original "Percy Jackson" films, I have incredible news. The limited series "We Were the Lucky Ones" is coming to Disney's newly-purchased Hulu very soon, and it looks like it's going to be worth the wait.

King portrayed Blanchard, a woman sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder for the death mother Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard in Hulu’s limited series “The Act.”

Emerald Fennell is sharing one of her favorite “complicated” sexy onscreen relationships ever, and it’s none other than the dark, obsessive dynamic found in Martin Scorsese’s “Cape Fear.” During Turner Classic Movie’s “Talking Pictures: A Movie Memories Podcast,” hosted by Ben Mankiewicz, “Saltburn” filmmaker Fennell revealed her twisted love for Robert De Niro and Juliette Lewis’ onscreen relationship in Scorsese’s 1991 film.
While Fennell noted that the 1962 original starring Robert Mitchum is her preferred iteration of the story (both films were adaptations of 1957 book “The Executioners” by John D. Macdonald), she cited the scene in Scorsese’s feature in which De Niro’s character stalks Lewis at her high school as a favorite.
“I was obsessed with the remake, because the scene where Robert De Niro comes to the high school to seduce Juliette Lewis, it’s one of the sexiest things I’ve ever seen, which is very complicated,...
