Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water… Join your horror hosts Kim & Jon as they dive into the refreshing waters of Amity Island, circa 1978, for a late summer rewatch of the blockbuster-turned-grindhouse sequel Jaws 2 (1978). Summer just ain’t summer without a proper shark movie and if the Megalodon didn’t do it for you, the great white in Jaws 2 is one mean son-of-a-fish. This shark eats divers. This shark eats skiers. This shark eats lovers, haters, the occasional whale- this dang shark even eats a helicopter! It’s a sun-soaked roller coaster ride of (maybe) revenge, with a charred & scarred aquatic monster hell bent on ruining your nice quiet day at the beach. Join ussss….

The following contains major spoilers for The Meg and Meg 2: The Trench.
Sharksploitation movies live and die based on the strength of their bite. In order to make us afraid to go in the water, genre filmmakers usually deploy a barrage of visual and practical effects to bring to life the ocean’s most feared predator: the shark. Of the many aquatic horror films to hit the screen, few have featured teeth so big and vicious as The Meg.
Jon Turteltaub’s action-packed shark film brings to life Otodus megalodon, the largest predator the world has ever known. Thought to be extinct, a group of oceanic explorers discover this prehistoric shark species lurking beneath the thermocline, a temperature barrier near the ocean floor. A box office hit, The Meg won over audiences with its splashy energy, dynamic special effects, and a captivating performance from action star Jason Statham. Five years later,...

Running out of human adversaries who can square off with him, action star Jason Statham has once again decided to punch gigantic prehistoric sharks as Meg 2: The Trench, the sequel to the 2018 monster action flick Meg, has been released in theaters worldwide. Like the first installment, the sequel is also an adaptation of Steve Alten’s Megalodon-based novels, in this context, “The Trench,” and does a decent job of staying true to the source material quite unexpectedly, given how the previous movie ended.
However, despite having the very basic responsibility of delivering a no-nonsense, run-of-the-mill summer spectacle, Meg 2 fumbles miserably as it falls victim to extremely clichéd characterization, dragged storytelling, and a horribly patchwork third act. Annoying kids constantly jeopardizing the lives of others, Poc scientists reduced to comic relief, any real sense of trepidation washed off with poorly CGI’d creatures, unnecessary and bland humor—every single...

The unknown depths of the sea have always fascinated humanity and appealed to us, both through their beauty and terror. Evoking this fear of the unknown, Steven Spielberg revolutionized the creature horror genre forever through his first blockbuster hit, Jaws (1975). Since then, a plethora of imitative works have been released, along with three mediocre sequels, never quite able to emulate the dread ever again. However, the astronomical success of Jaws resulted in studios indulging in a really weird obsession with shark-related action movies ever since, which culminated in abominations like Sharknado and Sharktopus, which might be some of the worst crimes done to the species aside from human exploitation.
Although not that deplorable in essence, keeping in tradition with mega-budget shark action movies, Meg was released in 2018 and pitted the monstrous prehistoric shark Megalodon against Jason Statham and co. With its sequel, Meg 2: The Trench, on its way to be released this week,...

Jason Statham has found himself in shark-infested waters once again in the newly revealed trailer for Meg 2: The Trench. The follow-up to the outrageous 2018 aquatic action film arrives in theaters on August 4th.
The initial preview begins in a prehistoric era where the titular Megalodon swims at the top of the food chain, and after jumping 65 millions years ahead, it appears not much has changed. After Statham’s heroic rescue diver Jonas Taylor leads a team to the bottom of the ocean, the crew comes face-t0-face with a whole new host of monsters, including “the biggest Meg anyone’s ever seen.”
The stakes are certainly higher with Statham squaring off against multiple Megalodons, but the action star brings out a whole new level of brain-dead badassery by nearly sticking his foot in the belly of the beast to stop a charging Meg in its tracks. Watch the full trailer below.

The giant shark known as the Megalodon has seen quite the resurgence thanks to films like 2018’s The Meg. Usually destined to the SyFy channel, we’ve been lucky enough to see some of these silly aquatic thrillers make their way to cinemas. The Black Demon may just be the silliest of the lot, featuring a Megalodon out to take out an oil rig that’s poisoning the water. And the only person that can stop this prehistoric beast is someone I had the fortune of chatting with recently. Josh Lucas stars as Paul Sturges and he had plenty of interesting things to say about both The Black Demon, as well why the Marvel films have disappointed him lately. All this and more in the video embedded above!
Our own Cody Hamman reviewed the film here and seemed to have a fun time, despite its mediocrity. It certainly doesn’t...

Back in 2018, Steve Alten’s The Meg finally came to the big screen, but not in the form that we had originally been promised. The big screen Megalodon horror movie was released with a PG-13 rating – much to the chagrin of star Jason Statham – leaving fans hungry for a shark attack movie with a bit more bite. And it looks like we’re getting one this year.
From Rambo: Last Blood director Adrian Grünberg, The Black Demon will be released in theaters on April 28, and we’ve learned today that it’s Rated “R” for “Some grisly images.”
Music to our ears. Stay tuned for our review, coming soon!

While we were initially disappointed to discover that The Meg wasn't a new biopic about America's sweetheart, Meg Ryan, we quickly got on board when we learned a few more details. The new horror movie stars action hero Jason Statham as a deep-sea rescue diver who is the only hope to save a stranded group of people in an undersea observation vessel, which is being hunted by a 75-foot-long shark thought to be extinct called the Megalodon. While we have no idea if Statham's character survives the terrifying super-shark, we do have a little insight into a possible sequel.

On June 20, 1975 a thriller from a relatively unknown filmmaker was unleashed on unsuspecting theatre goers. Audiences witnessed, mostly from surface water level, the birth of the original Summer Blockbuster, Steven Spielberg’s Jaws. People had never seen this type of visceral carnage before in cinemas and subsequently it had a terrifying impact of beach goers that summer. There is something so primal and horrific about the now iconic scene of the dolly zoom on Martin Brody’s shocked face after Alex Kintner is attacked.
Based on the hit bestseller from author Peter Benchley, the suspense novel is the story of three men searching for a great white shark preying upon a beach resort. After first publication in February 1974, the novel was a great success, with the hardback...

While Disney has held many of the biggest box office hits this summer, the season has also been very good to Focus Features. Universal’s arthouse wing has already found big success with the Fred Rogers doc “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?,” and now looks to keep adult audiences coming in with Spike Lee’s confrontational Ku Klux Klan period film, “BlacKkKlansman.”
It’s the start of what could be Focus’ most stacked slate in its 16-year history. In addition to the two aforementioned films, Focus’ awards season lineup includes Joel Edgerton’s adaptation of the Lgbt novel “Boy Erased,” the Saoirse Ronan/Margot Robbie-fronted “Mary Queen of Scots,” and the Ruth Bader Ginsburg biopic “On the Basis of Sex,” all of which could earn Oscar nominations in January.

"I'm gonna make this thing bleed."
Warner Bros. has released a new international trailer and poster for The Meg, which awesomely centers around Jason Statham fighting a giant-ass shark known as the Megalodon. In real life, Statham is probably the only person in the world that could handle a situation like this.
There's a good amount of new footage in this trailer that gives us a proper set up of the story and a lot more shark chomping action!
In the film, a deep-sea submersible—part of an international undersea observation program—has been attacked by a massive creature, previously thought to be extinct, and now lies disabled at the bottom of the deepest trench in the Pacific…with its crew trapped inside. With time running out, expert deep-sea rescue diver Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham) is recruited by a visionary Chinese oceanographer (Winston Chao), against the wishes of his daughter...

We've got an awesome new TV spot for you to watch for the crazy fun looking giant shark movie The Meg. There's some great new footage, some of which features the giant Megalodon shark coming face to face with Jason Statham, and as the shark starts chomping at him while he's diving in the ocean, of course, Statham kicks it in the face while trying not to get eaten! This movie looks so ridiculous, yet so much fun!

The once-mighty Warner Bros. is no longer the cock of the walk among major studios. (That’s Disney.) A year ago, after disappointing results, chairman Kevin Tsujihara installed New Line chief Toby Emmerich in charge of studio production. This January, he promoted Emmerich to chairman, presiding over not only production but worldwide marketing and distribution.
In other words, Tsujihara is letting his new studio chief sink or swim. That includes righting the DC universe, which has been decidedly hit or miss since the glory days of Dick Donner’s “Superman” and Tim Burton and Christopher Nolan’s serial cracks at “Batman.” Despite Tsujihara’s bold 2013 “Batman v. Superman” announcement, Zack Snyder proved to be no Kevin Feige. Now Emmerich has installed his “Conjuring” series producer Walter Hamada as DC president.
Introducing his first Warners presentation at CinemaCon, Emmerich looked nervous as he touted last year’s $5.1 billion global box office and blockbusters “Wonder Woman,...
