Guy Ritchie is back with The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Based on what is allegedly the first “Black Ops” mission it’s a variation on The Dirty Dozen and all the knock-offs that followed, right up to and including Inglourious Basterds.
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare opens with a boat having just been boarded by several members of the German Navy. As they pour gasoline over the deck, they tell its occupants they have the choice of staying on board and burning to death, or jumping overboard and drowning. For some reason, however, they don’t seem very worried.
From there we jump back 25 days, to Churchill watching newsreel footage about Hitler’s U-boats keeping American troops from entering the war.

The Red Sea International Film Festival in partnership with Vox Cinemas, Mbc Group, and Saudia Airlines announced the winners of the Red Sea competition sections. The 16 feature, 18 shorts selection and 21 ground-breaking global virtual reality experiences are a celebration of the most exciting, innovative new films and cinematic storytelling from established and emerging filmmakers from the Arab world and Africa.
This year’s jury included: President of the Red Sea Features Competition, Academy Award-winning Italian director and writer Giuseppe Tornatore, Tunisian actress Hend Sabry, Palestinian-American director, writer, actress, and producer Cherien Dabis, Mexican festival director and founder of the Morelia International Film Festival Daniela Michel and Saudi film director Abdulaziz Alshlahei.
Competition Jury Prize went to the Cannes Directors Fortnight premiering Hit the Road by Panah Panahi from Iran.
Competition Best Film went to Brighton 4th by Levan Koguashvili a coproduction of Georgia, Russia, Bulgaria, USA, Monaco. This is Georgia’s submission for Oscar Nomination for Best International Film and the winner of the Asian World Film Festival, Los Angeles for Best Picture. This film about the Georgian emigrants living in Brighton Beach, USA today captures the heart of the viewers with its open sharing of the Georgians today. Its director Levan Koguashvili graduated NYU Film school. The film is the winner of three prizes at Cottbus Film Festival and three awards at Tribeca as well.
Competition Best Actor and Best Director for Europa went to Amal Ali and Haider Rashid respectively, a coproduction of Iraq, Italy, and Kuwait:
Haider Rashid says, “Regarding the main role, Kamal, I was set on finding an actor who could understand the sense of displacement that we wanted to portray on an emotional level. My colleague Daniele Bernabei ran into a trailer for a short film while at the Short Film Corner in Cannes and sent it to me, as the cast was composed of several Arab actors. As soon as I saw Adam Ali I felt there was something interesting about him, a silent movie face in a way. That made me want to find out more, since we were going to make a film in which dialogue is at a minimum and most of the film is on the protagonist’s shoulders.
While he was in Canada shooting Apple+’s Little America, we had a very interesting conversation and found some common grounds on certain issues like the misrepresentation of certain ethnicities in film and TV and what it feels like to be sometimes torn between two cultures. Adam is of Libyan origins and moved with his family to Manchester when he was a child, so the issue of identity was also a common ground between us.
Of course this film is pretty different as it is so physical and it was clear that we were going to do many things that not every actor would be willing to do. While speaking to Adam, it seemed to me that there was a certain pride about him that would help me in pushing him in certain directions both physically and emotionally by sometimes provoking him. He was great in being determined to do what was necessary and I have to say he was really brave in how he faced the physical and emotional challenges that the story entailed.”
Competition Best Actress Award went to Arawinda Kirana for her role in Yuni a production of Indonesia, Singapore, France, Australia. She also won for best actress in the Asian World Film Festival, Los Angeles. This is a beautifully shot story of the feisy rebellion of a young woman in Indonesia today, a place we have not seen in its contemporary feminine aspects until now.

Middle East Premiere of Joe Wright’s ‘Cyrano’ to Open Saudi Arabia’s Inaugural Red Sea Film Festival
The Middle East premiere of British director Joe Wright’s dazzling romantic drama “Cyrano” will open the Red Sea Film Festival, which is Saudi Arabia’s first full-fledged film festival and market with international ambitions.
The ambitious event, which is a key plank of the kingdom’s plans to diversify its oil-based economy and become a prominent Middle East moviemaking hub – following the 2017 removal of its religion-related ban on cinema – is set to run Dec. 6-15 in the historic district of the city of Jeddah, a Unesco World Heritage site.
Organizers on Tuesday unveiled a well-assorted lineup featuring lots of fresh Arabic fare interspersed with high-profile international pics such as, besides “Cyrano,” Maggie Gyllenhaal’s Elena Ferrante adaptation “The Lost Daughter,” Ana Lily Amirpour’s “Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon,” and Oscar-nominated Japanese filmmaker Mamoru Hosoda’s anime feature “Belle,” which will open the fest’s Next Generation section.

Maps from “They Shall Not Pass,” a Dlc package released last March for “Battlefield 1” will be released for all players, developer Dice announced today. Additionally, with the launch of the expansion “Apocalypse” on March 6, the game’s monthly updates will soon come to an end.
Starting today, the map “Rupture” is now available for all players owning a copy of the game. Next month, more maps from “They Shall Not Pass” will be made available, Dice said.
Rupture takes place during the Second Battle of the Marne, and allows for game modes like Team Deathmatch, War Pigeons, Conquest, and Domination.
A new game mode will launch for “Battlefield 1” in June, the developer added. Called “Shock Operations,” the new mode “supports 40 players and sees attackers and defenders battling over sectors” of a singular map. Shock Operations will be available on the following in-game maps: Giant’s Shadow, Prise de Tahure, Lupkow Pass,...

Swedish-born Noomi Rapace has been slowly but surely building up a career in American movies and making a real mark in the industry. Her facial gestures and looks can sometimes be filled up with an innumerable amount of emotions, and her physical prowess — she’s no slouch in the muscle department — builds considerable screen presence in itself. Lately, the 36-year-old actress has been working with genre fare, starring as Dr. Elizabeth Shaw in Ridley Scott’s “Alien” prequel “Prometheus,” leading the horror flick “Rupture,” and featured in the upcoming Netflix blockbuster “Bright.”
Her latest performance might be her most ambitious yet.

If you ever wondered what seven Noomi Rapaces might look like, “Seven Sisters” has the answer. The film, formerly known as “What Happened To Monday?“, is an ambitious sci-fi flick about a man with too many children in a futuristic society where overpopulation has become a pressing issue.

Steven Shainberg’s Rupture begins with an image of something I hate – a spider – and ends with another image of something I also hate – another spider. Is there any correlation between my hatred of spiders and my issues with this film? No, I’ve survived the likes of Eight Legged Freaks and Spiders 3D. My qualms are instead with Brian Nelson’s screenplay, based on a half-baked “idea” torn from one single sequence in Tim Miller’s Deadpool. While I might hate surprise spiders, (others do too, so you’re welcome), steadfast direction and tingling thrills are worth any arachnophobia jolts. Alas, these are two things that escape Shainberg’s cold, imprisoning experiment. Two of many.

If Steven Shainberg’s career as a director was helped by his Sundance breakthrough “Secretary,” it hasn’t been easy coasting since then. Shainberg followed that film up with the Nicole Kidman– and Robert Downey Jr.-starring “Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus,” which, just like “Secretary,” has built up a loyal cult fanbase over the years.

Filmmaker Steven Shainberg tapped Noomi Rapace for the lead of his thriller Rupture, which had a quick turnaround shoot in Canada. The director said it was all “go go go” for the film, though he ran into a roadblock on the way to distribution. Opening in theaters and arriving on VOD this Friday is Steven Shainberg’s sci-fi thriller, Rupture, which stars Noomi Rapace as a single mom abducted by a sinister organization that experiments on her while she desperately tries to escape their clutches. Daily Dead recently spoke to Shainberg in anticipation of Rupture’s release, and he discussed what inspired the project, how the aesthetics he established helped serve the story, and his experiences collaborating with Noomi.
You really put Noomi through her paces in this movie, and she’s really great. I'd love to hear about where this idea came from, because the story has some very unexpected twists that I really didn't see coming.
Steven Shainberg: This movie, for me, is rooted in a Japanese film by [Hiroshi] Teshigahara called Woman in the Dunes, which is a very beautiful, incredible movie about a guy who is held captive by a...

It’s taken ten years, but Secretary director Steven Shainberg has finally followed-up Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus. The result is Rupture, a body horror-lite tale about a woman held captive as part of an experiment meant to unlock humanity’s hidden potential to evolve beyond our current state. Written by Brian Nelson (the two share story credit), its script seeks to mess with our expectations as it does its prisoner Renee (Noomi Rapace). We’re to cultivate a sense of paranoia with surveillance dominating the first act to a point where we must scratch our heads at act two’s distinct lack of it to facilitate Renee’s actions. Is this shift an unfortunate plot-hole or merely deflection to distract us? Is it hallucination or reality, trick or mistake?

Even Emma Watson and Tom Hanks May Not Be Enough to Make a Mark As April Ends
The last weekend of April, and the “slower” spring movie season is ending this weekend, leading directly into the start of the lucrative summer box office next week. As has been the case in past years, the last couple weekends in April see a couple movies hoping to bring in any amount of money before the first big summer blockbuster, and other movies that will steal away their theaters. Last weekend was pretty sad, but hopefully a few of this weekend’s movies will fare better.

In Steven Shainberg’s inane thriller Rupture, one Renee Morgan (Noomi Rapace) is abducted from a Missouri roadside and taken to a secret lab that looks just like a Halloween haunted house. It’s got gurneys, barred windows, purple lights, extra-large syringes of mad-scientist mystery syrup—the general aesthetic of a place that might be called the Screamatorium or the Shoe Factory Of Terror, but without the sickly sweet smell of glycerin vaporizing in a fog machine. There she is subjected to bizarre experiments by pod-person-esque creeps (played by the likes of Michael Chiklis, Peter Stormare, and Lesley Manville), who occasionally put on binocular glasses and yammer on about genetic codes, fear, and evolution. There are other test subjects, too. One tries to talk to her through a shared vent before what sounds like a drill is put through his eye. And poor Renee—she just dropped off her teenage...

We're not bagging on its trailer, either, we just think the clip below does everything you need. It's weird, mysterious, disturbing, intriguing and unique. If you've had a hankering for an insane movie to watch, there's one on its way called Rupture. This is a psychological horror thriller that stars Noomi Rapace (Prometheus), and it looks absolutely crazy as Rapace finds herself in a terrifying situation. Here's a brief story summary that gives us the basic idea of what goes down, but to get a real sense of what his movie has to offer, watch the trailer!
Rupture follows Renee Morgan (Noomi Rapace), a single mom, who is deathly terrified of spiders. While in route to meet up with a friend, she is violently abducted by a group of strangers. After enduring intense yet strange questioning and examinations, some about her fear of spiders, Renee soon discovers that she is now the subject of an underground experiment. "Don't fight it. Let it happen." Vertical Entertainment has revealed an official Us trailer for the release of the psychological horror-thriller Rupture, from director Steven Shainberg (of the film Secretary over a decade ago, as well as Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus). Swedish actress Noomi Rapace plays an "ordinary woman" and mother of a boy who is randomly abducted on a highway. She wakes up strapped to an operating table and is forced to undergo a series of terrifying psychological experiments. The film also stars Peter Stormare, Kerry Bishé, Michael Chiklis, Ari Millen, Lesley Manville, Percy Hynes White and Morgan Kelly. This definitely does look very freaky, I just want to know what the big twist is. Here's the official Us trailer (+ new poster) for Steven Shainberg's Rupture, direct from YouTube: You can also still watch the original UK trailer for Rupture here, to see even more footage from this film.
