The fallout shelter featured in the film was actually comprised of two seperate locations. Shots featuring the exterior of the fallout shelter were filmed in Dallas at a residential location, which contained an actual, working fallout shelter, while the interior shelter shots were achieved inside of a replica set, which was built to be just large enough to accommodate the crew and equipment.
