The first scene of "Hounds of Love," a brutal 2016 horror film from director Ben Young, is shot from the Pov of a skeevy couple, Evelyn and John White. We watch a group of Australian schoolgirls playing volleyball in slow motion, their skirts waving against their lean bodies jumping in the air. This camera technique shows how the Whites get voyeuristic pleasure in hunting for their next victim. They offer 17-year-old Vicky a ride, eventually luring her to their home and chaining her to a bed to enact sexual and violent torture for their own amusement. These cruel actions are an aphrodisiac for the couple, and when they're not harming Vicky they're having sex with each other.
Young does not show the full extent of what's happening, but just enough so that we can fill the horrors in our own minds.

Over the past week or so, Apple Music has slowly unveiled the titles included in its list of the “100 best albums.” Today, the top 10 albums were revealed, with Miss Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill claiming the No. 1 spot. Rounding out the top five are Michael Jackson’s Thriller; The Beatles’ Abbey Road; Prince’s Purple Rain; and Frank Ocean’s Blonde.
The top 10 also includes Stevie Wonder’s Songs in the Key of Life; Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city (Deluxe Version); Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black; Nirvana’s Nevermind; and Beyoncé’s Lemonade.
In all honestly, it’s a pretty safe top 10, especially considering the drama that unfolded when Apple unveiled picks 11-20 and slotted Adele’s 21 at No. 15 and Taylor Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version) at No. 18 — ahead of albums like Dr. Dre’s The Chronic, The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds,...

Kate Bush has always been a fiercely original art-pop icon. But with “Running Up That Hill,” she achieved a new kind of feat. “Running Up That Hill” was a massive Top Ten, dominating U.S. radio all over the summer of 2022 — even though it was a song she released back in 1985. Her classic synth-goth anthem sounded ahead of its time in the Eighties. But only Kate Bush could make it a song that still sounds ahead of its time nearly 40 years later.

Del Palmer, the longtime bassist, collaborator, and partner of Kate Bush, has died. He was 71 years old.
News of Palmer’s passing came via a social media post shared by his niece, Debbii Louise Palmer, on behalf of his family. It has since been confirmed by outlets like the fan site Kate Bush News, which also reported that Palmer had “dealt with health issues” during his final years.
Born on November 3rd, 1952, in Southeast London, Palmer began performing at an early age, eventually crossing paths with an ascendant Bush during her late teenage years. In 1977, he joined her KT Bush Band, formally beginning a collaboration that would stretch on for four decades, with Palmer receiving credits on every Bush album released between 1978 and 2011.

Filmmaker Raghuvir Joshi’s movie ‘Sahela’, an Australian production in English, set to make its South Asian premiere at the Jio Mami Mumbai International Film Festival 2023 is inspired by his own lived experience of having discovered his sexuality post-marriage.

He however adds that it would be unfair to call the feature film an ‘extension’ of ‘Yaman’ as the story and characters, and the milieu itself is very different. “But yes, the emotional core is the same, of love and loss.”

Kate Bush is being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a long overdue honor for the experimental and forward-thinking singer-songwriter.
Because she’s rarely performed live over the course of her career (she has only toured once, in 1979), most of Bush’s fans have only been able to watch her on television programs. In 1985, while rolling out her classic album Hounds of Love, she made her first of four career appearances on Wogan, a BBC One chat show hosted by presenter Terry Wogan.

Ever since audiences—at least according to myth—ran screaming from the premiere screening of Auguste and Louis Lumière’s 1895 short black-and-white silent documentary Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat, the histories of filmgoing and horror have been inextricably intertwined. Through the decades—and subsequent crazes for color and sound, stereoscopy and anamorphosis—since that train threatened to barrel into the front row, there’s never been a time when audiences didn’t clamor for the palpating fingers of fear. Horror films remain perennially popular, despite periodic (and always exaggerated) rumors of their demise, even in the face of steadily declining ticket sales and desperately shifting models of distribution.
Into the new millennium, horror films have retained their power to shock and outrage by continuing to plumb our deepest primordial terrors, to incarnate our sickest, most socially unpalatable fantasies. They are, in what amounts to a particularly delicious irony,...

Chvrches are gearing up to release a deluxe edition of their debut album The Bones of What You Believe to celebrate its 10th anniversary. Ahead of its release October 13th, they’re sharing “Talking In My Sleep,” a never-before-heard outtake from the era.
Instead of Chvrches’ usual frontperson Lauren Mayberry, “Talking In My Sleep” notably features lead vocals from band member Martin Doherty, delivering haunting lines like “Be the reason for my fear/ And the reason for my smile.” While the upbeat track boasts a lot of the same slightly glitchy, caffeinated synth-pop qualities that make up The Bones of What You Believe, “Talking In My Sleep” offers some interesting backstory of a band beginning to find their sound.

“Stranger Things” music supervisor Nora Felder emerged victorious at Sunday’s Creative Arts Emmys, winning Outstanding Music Supervision for the season 4 episode “Dear Billy,” the one that made a nearly 40-year-old Kate Bush song a hit again. In her acceptance speech, Felder gave a special thanks to Bush.
The episode prominently features Bush’s 1985 song “Running Up That Hill (Make a Deal with God),” empowering the character Max (Sadie Sink) to fight back against evil. After the series’ fourth season dropped on Netflix in May, the track started charting around the world, propelled in no small part by chatter on social media. It reached No. 1 on iTunes and by July, the “Running Up That Hill” video had hit 100 million YouTube views.
Felder chose the track because she felt the lyrics perfectly captured Max’s experience. As she told Variety, “In the face of Max’s painful isolation and alienation from others,...

Felder chose the track because she felt the lyrics perfectly captured Max’s experience. As she told Variety, “In the face of Max’s painful isolation and alienation from others,...

Kate Bush temporarily emerged from the timeless mists of whichever rainswept moor she lives upon to declare, yes, she is aware that Gen Z is going bananas for her music.
After the prominent placement of her 1985 track “Running Up That Hill” from the album “Hounds of Love” in the fourth season of Netflix’s “Stranger Things,” the eerie, propulsive song shot up to #1 on iTunes in both the US and UK. The song saw an 8700 increase in Spotify streams, and other platforms have similarly skyrocketed.
Bush, the 63-year-old British singer-songwriter-dancer, maintains a pretty low profile these days, but did release a short statement on her website noting the recent phenomenon.
Under a simple heading reading “Stranger Things,” Bush wrote “You might’ve heard that the first part of the fantastic, gripping new series of ‘Stranger Things’ has recently been released on Netflix. It features the song, ‘Running Up That Hill...

Hello. This is a spoiler warning for "Stranger Things" season 4, specifically episode 4, "Dear Billy." You have been warned.
Music has always been important in the world of "Stranger Things," but the soundtrack to season 4 wouldn't be the same without Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)." Max (Said Sink) has been through a lot after last season's battle at Starcourt Mall which resulted in the death of her stepbrother Billy, and one of the ways she's found solace through it all has been music. Netflix’s Stranger Things is helping revive a blast from the past on the heels of the show’s Season 4 premiere on Friday. Kate Bush’s 1985 single “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)” is currently No. 1 on the iTunes chart.
The song first appears in the premiere episode and plays a significant role in Max’s (Sadie Sink) story.
“Running Up That Hill” was the first single off Bush’s album Hounds of Love that would go on and become her biggest hit of the era. The track was originally titled “A Deal With God” but was changed by her label for fear that it would be blacklisted in religious countries like Italy, France, and Australia.
This isn’t the first time Stranger Things helped revive a song, following its use of the theme song to the hit fantasy film The NeverEnding Story by Limahl last season. YouTube...

Warning: The following contains spoilers for Stranger Things Season 4, Part 1. If you’re still mid-binge, you might want to put off reading this article.
Some Stranger Things fans will, of course, know Max’s favorite song, the one that seems to play on a loop in her headphones as of Season 4’s premiere (and, later on, proves to be beyond pivotal). It was, after all, a Top 30 smash back in 1985. Other viewers, however, will likely be hard-pressed to name that tune.

When Fti was consolidated into Screenwest back in 2017, the annual Wa Screen Awards disappeared with it.
However, Revelation Perth International Film Festival director Richard Sowada has sought to bring them back, giving the state’s industry an awards platform for the first time in nearly five years.
Newly dubbed the Western Australian Screen Culture Awards, the event will bookend Revelation in mid-December.
Sowada has somewhat reimagined the honours, with a focus on innovation and achievement. Categories span all screen genres, from shorts, features and docos, through to VR/Ar, games, moving image art and installation.
The aim is to recognise the extraordinary growth and current vibracy of the Western Australian industry; Sowada posits that when he started Revelation back in 1997, Wa produced a feature film every three years.
“Over the years, particularly in the last six years or so, it’s exploded,” he tells If.
