A Slow Thriller
Autumn Wanderer is a slow-burn thriller that never really delivers. The film follows Charlie. His life has taken a turn for the worse. His girlfriend has left, and he is trying to figure out how to navigate his new life. To make matters worse, Charlie is showing signs of schizophrenia, and he is left questioning his own sanity. The premise is interesting enough, but the execution failed to engage me. It's just too slow, the dialogue is dry, and the characters aren't interesting. Furthermore, the movie tries to be smarter than it actually is. For instance, the film starts with an Allan Watts quote, and there are some discussions about how all relationships end. But these moments work to create a larger message. Honestly, it felt like the writers had just watched Fight Club, and they wanted to create a similar film about how individuals need to break away from society and capitalism, but they failed to capture what made Fight Club work. With that being said, there were some good parts. I like the juxtaposition between Charlie and his brother. And I think that storyline pays off in the end. Anna Camps also has a small role in this film. I imagine she filmed all her scenes in one day because she was in it so little. Sadly, they wasted her potential. Overall, this movie isn't for everyone, but if you can watch it for Free on IMDB TV like I did, it's worth a watch.
