“Short Circuit,” Disney’s experimental shorts program, returns August 4 on Disney+ with five new animated works about personal growth: “Crosswalk” concerns a pedestrian frustrated by a street light that won’t change; “Dinosaur Barbarian,” the program’s first 2D short, conjures a caveman superhero trying to clean up his act; “Going Home” explores a young adult repeatedly visiting his hometown; “No 2 to Kettering” follows a shy British girl who takes a dreary bus ride every morning; and “Songs to Sing in the Dark” offers a battle in a dark cave between two constantly evolving creatures.
“Each [director] had a personal connection to their short, and that was a great starting point,” said “Short Circuit” production manager Jennifer Newfield. “That gave them a clear direction and engagement with the story.”

Some things are very sacred to certain people. Like the 1985 animated children’s series ThunderCats for instance. In some people’s minds, ThunderCats, a cartoon about catlike humanoid aliens with swords, is as sacrosanct as Michelangelo’s painting on the Sistine Chapel ceiling. Now, a new ThunderCats series, ThunderCats Roar, is on the way and some people are very, very Mad Online™. Remember ThunderCats? They’re […]

DC Comics has announced that they will be teaming up with Mattel for an upcoming Injustice comic book story arc that will feature Batman recruiting He-Man to help him fight Superman! It's like every 80s ten-year-old kid's dream come true! I use to mash characters like this up all the time when I was growing up with action figures and in art! Now, it's actually official!
The six-issue miniseries will be called Injustice Vs. He-Man and The Masters of the Universe. It sounds like a wild crossover and it will be written by Tim Seeley. Here's the description that was released:
Believing He-Man and the Masters of the Universe defeated, a robotic impostor has seized control of Eternia—but not for long! After freeing his kingdom from this strongman’s rule, He-Man learns not everyone is pleased to see the pretender deposed—but Adam knows the value of freedom. When...

September 5 on MTV
What Is It? From the writer/directors behind the cult favorite “Josie and the Pussycats” adaptation, this series follows two “ganjapeneurs” who run a weed delivery service in Los Angeles.
I’ll Like It If I Like… The “Broad City” influence is pretty clear, as the show is focused on the tight friendship between Jordan (Scout Durwood) and Paige (Jessica Rothe) and their stoner antics.
Why Should I Care? Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont’s unique approach to satirizing La hipster culture really help this show stand out from the pack of other female-led comedies, while also promising a more surreal touch. Durwood and Rothe also make for an enjoyable pairing. For fans of the pot comedy genre, it’s an easy sell.

From Marine Boy and Thundercats to Cities Of Gold and Akira, we look at the TV shows and movies that introduced the UK to Japanese anime
One evening in 1994, the BBC screened a documentary simply called Manga. Presented by Jonathan Ross, it showcased the rising popularity of Japanese animation, largely focusing on the output of Manga Entertainment, whose dubbed VHS releases had made a huge impact on anime fans and caused a certain amount of consternation among the mainstream press.
For British viewers, the anime boom took a long time to arrive. In America, Japanese shows like Kimba The White Lion, Gigantor and Astro Boy were a common sight on television in the 1960s, yet it took until the late 70s and 80s, and a string of European-Japanese co-productions, before anime finally began to find a hold on UK television.

Joining Kevin Michael Richardson as Groot and Trevor Devall as Rocket in the upcoming Disney Xd Guardians Of The Galaxy animated series is Will Friedle (Boy meets World) as Peter Jason Quill, aka Star Lord. Like the others, Friedle has plenty of experience voicing characters in comic-based shows, having played the likes of the Caped Crusade in Batman Beyond, Lion-o in Thundercats, Bumblebee in Transformers: Prime and Deadpool in Ultimate Spider-Man. Plus, we have David Sobolov returning as Drax. A lot of fans expected this as Sobolov has previously provided the voice for the character in Ultimate Spider-Man and Marvel’s Avengers Assemble. Only Gamora left as far as the main team goes, so we'll surely find out who'll be voicing her pretty soon. Marvel will produce the series, with Alan Fine, Dan Buckley, Joe Quesada and Jeph Loeb on board as as executive producers.

In 2011, Cartoon Network rebooted the classic 80s series, ThunderCats and it was pretty awesome to watch. If you missed out on it, however, Warner Bros. has announced that the full series is coming to blu-ray next month!
I grew up on the original ThunderCats cartoon back in the 80s and it remains one of my favorites. When Cartoon Network rebooted the series a few years back, I was impressed with how well they handled it, and how enjoyable it actually was. Sadly, however, the new series didn't seem to catch on with everyone and after 26 episodes, the series was put out to pasture. If you were a fan of the show, however, or missed out on it, you're in luck. Today it's been revealed that the complete series is heading to blu-ray on November 11, 2014:

As if Miami wasn't hot enough, "Entourage" beauty Emmanuelle Chriqui slipped into a string bikini and headed to the beach Thursday.
The 35-year-old stunner was spotted splashing in the waters off a beach in Miami, Fla., with her boyfriend, Adrian Bellani. Chriqui opted for a yellow floral bikini that showed her unbelievable figure. She topped off the look with a pair of aviator sunglasses as she swam in the water and lounged in the sand.
Since wrapping up the hit HBO series in 2011, the actress has appeared in "Thundercats," "Tron: Uprising" and "The Mentalist." She is expected to be back with Adrian Grenier and Kevin Connolly for the "Entourage" movie, however, once a final deal is made.
"It's been green-lit, so it's there, and there's a script," she told Canada's City News back in May. "But we're still waiting for the official, 'This is the start date'... Listen, I'm excited.

I’ve been revisiting my childhood on YouTube and podcasts a lot lately; and for this I place the blame squarely on voice actor Rob Paulsen – voice of Yakko Warner, Dr. Otto Scratch’n’sniff, and Pinky, of Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain. Well, if I was going to be fair, the daisy chain of blame would stretch all the way back through Twitter; Billy West; the organizers of Awesome Con; Mike Gold; Deadpool; a couple of federal judges; Glenn Hauman; Glenn’s lovely wife Brandy; Ya author Esther Friesner; and Terry Pratchett and the Discworld. But that’s way too convoluted, so Rob, it’s all your fault!
At some point in my childhood, I became a latchkey kid. Both of my parents worked until after school let out, and although there was a lot of “homework time” and “chore time” in my day, I fondly remember the...

Take a look at concept art for the abandoned animated Doctor Who project...
Let's take a minute or two on this chilly Thursday morning to ponder something that might have been, specifically, an animated Doctor Who project from DC and Thundercats artist, Dan Norton, that promised to "touch on all the versions [of the Doctor] and fill in some gaps".
Our chums over at Bleeding Cool have unearthed some exciting concept images from Norton's deviantART account, showing what a different beast the scrapped animation would have been to previous iterations, from failed 80s Nelvana pitch, through to Scream of the Shalka, The Infinite Quest and Dreamland (about which we chatted to writer Phil Ford last year).
Norton accompanied the images with these words about the abandoned project:
Yeah man, we were so close… Had a few revisions creatively that were requested and so we retooled. It was going to be epic man.

Thundercats premiered on Cartoon Network to a mixed reception from viewers. The reboot took the series in a different direction from the 80s TV show. Panthro was either dead or a traitor. Lion-o and Tygra were brothers, while Cheetara was caught in a love triangle between the two. And as for WilyKat and WilyKit, they were street urchins, prone to tomfoolery and thievery. Halfway through the season, viewers – both new and old – fell in love with these new Thundercats. Old fans realized that the heart of the series was still very much alive in Michael Jelenic and Ethan Spaulding’s contemporary retelling.
The new Thundercats series was great for several reasons. The story was respectful of core mythos. Still, the showrunners pushed the series in a bold direction. Instead of a procedural action series, we got a multi-layered cartoon that wasn’t afraid to push the limits of storytelling. Unfortunately,...

Thursday, yours truly drove down from La to San Diego for Nerd Christmas. Aka San Diego Comic Con! As my blood yearns for the approval of my Cenobite overlords, I was covering the many horror and creepy and thriller events for More Horror.
After dealing with traffic on the infamous I-5 freeway, I finally made it down to the convention center. Thursday night was the Heavy Metal party and the Resident Evil party in the gaslamp district, but the big event for me was Capcom/FEARnet/ShockTillYouDrop’s Con Of The Dead after party at Voyeur nightclub.
I went to cover the party and ended up meeting up with folks from Machinima and FEARnet, and then met up with good friend Ryan Turek of Shock Till You Drop, where we compared notes and discussed the game plan for dodging the long lines this year. Luckily...

We chatted with funny man and one-man production team (he writes, directs, produces and most recently gave up the job of editing the series) Louis C.K., where he talked about a few of his extremely entertaining guest-stars this season including Melissa Leo (The Fighter, Treme, Homicide: Life on the Street), fellow comedian Jerry Seinfeld and how this season drifts further away from his real life, and veers deeper into the world of fiction.
First up, let’s preview tonight’s episode 302, “Telling Jokes/Set up” another in what will become a prominent theme in this third season, Louie building up his sea legs for the always tumultuous world of dating. Even when he’s not necessarily pursuing anything, some things just fall into his lap. I won’t ruin tonight’s episode of Louie on FX, but I will say that it’s one of the funniest and raunchiest episodes to date.

The Comic-Con 2012 schedule has now been released in full, and barring any major updates, is set. The blessing and curse of being an attendee is deciding which panels/autograph sessions/special events to attend, when they conflict. And they always do.
For you to see for yourself, below are what we are calling the “headliner” panels; those panels that are taking place in Hall H, Ballroom 20, Room 6Bdf, and the just-next-door Hilton Indigo Ballroom, the four major venues for panels. There are descriptions of each panel as well as the show(s) and/or movie(s) they are there to discuss.
See how many conflicts you might have, or how you might arrange time and space to somehow attend these plus spend every day in the vendors’ Exhibit Hall and chasing zombies in the nearby The Walking Dead Escape. By the way, if you figure that out, Please let us know.

Sunday July 15th is the last day of Comic-Con 2012, and most of us will be completely worn out looking like Spider-Man in the image above. Chances are he's asleep under that mask. Sunday has always been a cool down day for us, we kind of just try to relax a little bit more and enjoy it. That doesn't mean their isn't anything to see or do though!
We've got a Fringe screening and Q&A, Doctor Who, Buffy the Vampire Slayer 20th Anniversary, Sons of Anarchy, the annual Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical screening, and more! I've always wanted to go the Buffy musical sing-a-long, but am usually trying to leave San Diego before it starts.
Just a little reminder, we will be having our annual GeekTyrant meet up this year to meet our readers, which is something we always enjoy doing! That will take place on Wednesday night, and...

Though there hasn't been any official word, it looks like the new ThunderCats animated series has been cancelled.
A reboot of the 1980s ThunderCats TV show, the new series debuted on Cartoon Network last July with the first of 26 installments. The season was broken up into two parts and the finale aired this past Saturday. There's been no word of plans for a second season.
What's more, Cartoon Network announced their plans for the 2012-13 season and ThunderCats was noticeably absent from their list of returning series.
Matthew Mercer is the voice actor for Tygra. His girlfriend is actress Mirisha Ray and she believes that the show has been cancelled so she's started a website to rally support.
While ThunderCats hasn't been officially cancelled yet, the signs certainly don't look positive. When/if we hear something...

There’s only one way to describe Disney Xd’s new series Tron: Uprising:
It’s bio-digital jazz, man.
After a prelude episode and an action-packed two-parter, Uprising is quietly becoming one of the best new shows of this Summer television season and it’s doing that with superb voice acting, impeccable artistic design and some smart writing that captures fans of the Tron movies and others just looking for something new and different.
For the uninitiated, Uprising is set between the events of the first Tron movie and its sequel Tron: Legacy. It revolves around Beck (voiced by Elijah Wood of Wilfred), a young program in a computerized world called The Grid that takes it upon himself to spark a revolution of the dictatorship run by the evil program Clu. “Beck’s Beginning,” the 30 minute prelude episode that aired in May, showed how our protagonist devised a plan to disguise himself as Tron,...

Talking LEGOs? Who'd have imagined?
Just after Gdc, we brought you word that Lego Batman 2 would be the first Lego title to receive full voice acting. Developer Traveler's Tales decided to make the change based on feedback from young fans of previous Lego titles who wanted the previously silent characters to have something to say.
Well, this is what the game sounds like.
The cast is a regular who's who of notable voice actors including Kevin Michael Richardson (ThunderCats, American Dad), Claudia Black (Dragon Age: Origins, Farscape), John Dimaggio (Futurama, Adventure Time), and Tom Kenny (Spongebob Squarepants, Green Lantern: The Animated Series). And if you're going to hire a voice cast, that's the one to get, particularly now that many of the heroes and villains of the Dcu will be playable in this open world sequel set in Gotham City.

Don’t let the name fool you. Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes isn’t a mere sequel to the hot selling Lego Batman game, nor is it a movie tie-in to The Dark Knight Rises.
However, it is one of the most ambitious Lego games to date, save for the upcoming Lego City: Undercover for Wii U. For starters, this playful adventure is fully voiced by a rich roster of industry vets, such as: New Teen Titans’ Tara Strong (as Harley Quinn), Stargate Sg-1’s Claudia Black (as Cheetah), The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’ Steve Blum (as The Joker/Batman), Green Lantern: The Animated Series’ Clancy Brown (as Lex Luthor), BioShock Infinite’s Troy Baker (as Two-Face), Young Justice’s Phil Lamarr (rumored as Aquaman/Green Lantern), SpongeBob’s Tom Kenny, Thundercats’ Kevin Michael Richardson (rumored as Kilowog) and Futurama’s John Di Maggio.

20th Century Fox Television has announced its 2012 Comic-Con schedule, which we therefore present to you here. Not that they’re offering much that we cover here at SciFi Mafia, except for one of my top two shows. Hey Wait A Minute – Argh! No American Horror Story! Well, given that they’ll probably be shooting, and that Ryan Murphy has indicated that he’d like to keep as much of it under wraps as possible, that’s probably not a huge surprise, though it is a disappointment.
We already learned about the Fringe panel from Warner Bros last Thursday, and… that’s it for us with Fox, except for Futurama which is also produced by 20th Century Fox Television. But for those of you who watch shows that we don’t usually cover here, well, here you go:

The Teen Titans are coming back to Cartoon Network. However, instead of action mixed in with a touch of lighthearted Beast Boy and Cyborg comedy, the new Teen Titans Go! series will focus primarily on humor.
Recently, The Teen Titans made a triumphant return to the cable network in the DC Nation Hour, a Saturday cartoon block which included Green Lantern: The Animated Series and Young Justice. Robin, Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy and Cyborg were featured in several DC Animated Shorts, reminding us just how funny and cherished these characters were.

Thats right Titans fans, the gang will return. The animation style is a bit different (see above), but the voice cast remains the same!
DC Nation, Cartoon Network’s home for action-packed animated series and original shorts based on characters from DC Comics (Saturdays 10:00–11:00 a.m. Et/Pt), will soon be joined by a new generation of superheroes as Teen Titans Go!, a brand-new half-hour comedy-action series inspired by Warner Bros. Animation’s original fan-favorite series Teen Titans, shows the humorous side of being a teenage hero.

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner's 2003 superhero film Daredevil almost hit theaters sometime in the '90s, but the script was aborted — which is a shame, according to Blastr. Comic writer J.M. DeMatteis — who also happens to be a TV scribe for animated series like Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Justice League Unlimited, and ThunderCats — wrote a treatment for what he hoped would be a faithful version of the Marvel story. Stan Lee gave it the thumbs up (much to DeMatteis' glee), but Hollywood had other ideas in mind. "The Fox executive in charge of the Dd project wasn't as thrilled with my treatment as [producers/writers] Carlo [Carlei], Chris [Columbus], Stan [Lee] and the others were," DeMatteis recently wrote on his...

“Dave Digilio is the new writer who was hired,” Horowitz followed. “He’s amazing, and we’re very, very excited to get a new draft that he’s currently revising.”

During my first playthrough of Mass Effect 3, I was surprised to hear the voice of Thundercats‘ Lion-o make a guest appearance.
Will Friedle, who played Terry McGinnis in Batman Beyond and now plays Lion-o on the new Thundercats series, appears about 10 hours into the single-player campaign.
He’s a Turian solider and son of a prominent figure. He makes his debut appearance during one of the earlier missions in the game.
Friedle is great in this role. If you’re a fan of Thundercats, you’ll notice an immediate similarity in their characters. Friedle brings a sense of unfulfilled responsibility to his characters. Whether he’s McGinnis living in Batman’s shadow or Lion-o in the shadow of King Claudus or big brother Tygra, Friedle always shows off a character who wants to honor the name of his predecessor. 2012 will be the first year that GeekTrant will invade WonderCon, mostly due to the fact that it was moved down to Anaheim, CA this year which is right in our backyard. We're all pretty excited about attending this year, as we've heard it's a much smaller more intimate version of San Diego Comic Con.
WonderCon is set to open on Friday, March 16th and run through Sunday, March 18th at the Anaheim Convention Center. If you plan on attending let us know, and maybe we can meet up and hang out for a bit!
I've put stars next to the panels we are interested in attending. Check out the schedule, and let us know what you are looking forward to seeing most!

Are you a fan of Young Justice? I know I am. It’s by far one of the best new series to hit Cartoon Network. Thundercats, Young Justice and Ben 10 are the triumvirate of cartoons that can be enjoyed by children young and old. Give me a marathon of those three cartoons and I’m in total utopia.
Unfortunately, all three of these series have one universal problem. Home video releases. Much like the schedule of episode airings on TV, the home video releases tend to come to us in fragmented bits. We can never get an entire season at once to sit down with and enjoy. Young Justice Season 1 Volume 3 is the latest release in this home video fiasco. It collects four episodes from the series: “Bereft”, “Targets”, “Terrors” and “Home Front”. However, don’t expect any cool bonus features. As great as Young Justice is, there is no justice for DVD buyers.

I'm a huge fan of animation, animated films are getting better and better. Not only is the look and animation getting ridiculously awesome, but I find that many of these animated films actually have incredibly good stories. Not all of them are good though, for example, Cars 2 and Rio sucked. It will be interesting to see who ends up taking home the awards this year. Out of the movies on the list that I've seen and liked we have Puss in Boots, Rango and Kung Fu Panda 2. I guess it's no surprises that Kung Fu Panda 2 is leading the nominations with 9. Check out the list and let us know what your favorite animated movies of the year are!

G1 Thundercats will be delighted to know that when the Thundercats returns from hiatus, so will the Berbils! On Oct. 28, the robotic bears will make their debut and enter the lives of Lion-o (Will Friedle), Cheetara (Emmanuelle Chriqui), Tygra (Matthew Mercer), Panthro (Kevin Michael Richardson) and the rest of the Thundercats. Check out the clip above, which shows the Cats first encounter with the tiny robot bears and, of course, everyone’s favorite Berbil, Robear Bill. Synopsis: Tiny robot bears solicit the help of the ThunderCats to save them from a slave trader who values their technical and construction skills. The Cats help to rescue enslaved Berbils and defend their village. Panthro learns that’s he’s not the only “wrench monkey” and bonds with Robear Bill. Check out these new stills from “Berbils” airing Oct 28 at 8:30/7:30c on Cartoon Network.

This Friday's episode of Thundercats will have a village full of robot bears that have a knack for building. But all is not well as the Berbils seek the help of the Thundercats to protect them slave traders that want to exploit their construction skills. Fans of the original ThunderCats series will recognize the Berbils immediately. "When deciding to bring the Berbils back we agreed to not change their design or personality too much as they were some of the most memorable characters in the original ThunderCats universe," producer Ethan Spaulding tells TVGuide.com. "The appeal of the Ro-Bear Berbils is their unassuming look -- cute, furry, robotic teddy bears -- and their robotic voices. They look cute but are actually great builders and help the ThunderCats in many ways." - TV Guide...

Relax, ThunderCats fans. Panthro isn't dead. "I noticed a little bit of a rumor about that," Kevin Michael Richardson, who voices Panthro in the Cartoon Network remake, tells TVGuide.com. "Someone said that on Facebook, and I was like, 'Really?'
When ThunderCats made its triumphant return to television in July, fans were outraged that Panthro, an integral part of the original '80s-era ThunderCats team, was absent without a satisfactory explanation. In the reboot, Panthro is first reported to be killed in action. Later, a false Panthro is revealed to actually be the evil Mumm-Ra in disguise. After all of this misdirection, it's a relief to know that we'll see the real Panthro back, however briefly, on Friday's episode (8:30/7:30c on Cartoon Network).
